Christoph Hellwig d092a87073 arch: rely on asm-generic/io.h for default ioremap_* definitions
Various architectures that use asm-generic/io.h still defined their
own default versions of ioremap_nocache, ioremap_wt and ioremap_wc
that point back to plain ioremap directly or indirectly.  Remove these
definitions and rely on asm-generic/io.h instead.  For this to work
the backup ioremap_* defintions needs to be changed to purely cpp
macros instea of inlines to cover for architectures like openrisc
that only define ioremap after including <asm-generic/io.h>.

Christoph Hellwig fded1829a2 ia64: rename ioremap_nocache to ioremap_uc
On ia64 ioremap_nocache fails if attributes don't match.  Not other
architectures does this, and we plan to get rid of ioremap_nocache.
So get rid of the special semantics and define ioremap_nocache in
terms of ioremap as no portable driver could rely on the behavior
anyway.

However x86 implements ioremap_uc in a similar way as the ia64
version of ioremap_nocache, in that it ignores the firmware tables.
Switch ia64 to override ioremap_uc instead.

Yian Chen f036c7fa0a iommu/vt-d: Check VT-d RMRR region in BIOS is reported as reserved
VT-d RMRR (Reserved Memory Region Reporting) regions are reserved
for device use only and should not be part of allocable memory pool of OS.

BIOS e820_table reports complete memory map to OS, including OS usable
memory ranges and BIOS reserved memory ranges etc.

x86 BIOS may not be trusted to include RMRR regions as reserved type
of memory in its e820 memory map, hence validate every RMRR entry
with the e820 memory map to make sure the RMRR regions will not be
used by OS for any other purposes.

ia64 EFI is working fine so implement RMRR validation as a dummy function

Mike Rapoport 782de70c42 mm: consolidate pgtable_cache_init() and pgd_cache_init()
Both pgtable_cache_init() and pgd_cache_init() are used to initialize kmem
cache for page table allocations on several architectures that do not use
PAGE_SIZE tables for one or more levels of the page table hierarchy.

Most architectures do not implement these functions and use __weak default
NOP implementation of pgd_cache_init().  Since there is no such default
for pgtable_cache_init(), its empty stub is duplicated among most
architectures.

Rename the definitions of pgd_cache_init() to pgtable_cache_init() and
drop empty stubs of pgtable_cache_init().

I've rebased his patch on the curren upstream and switched ia64 and sh to
use generic versions of PTE allocation.

This patch (of 3):

Remove page table allocator "quicklists".  These have been around for a
long time, but have not got much traction in the last decade and are only
used on ia64 and sh architectures.

The numbers in the initial commit look interesting but probably don't
apply anymore.  If anybody wants to resurrect this it's in the git
history, but it's unhelpful to have this code and divergent allocator
behaviour for minor archs.

Also it might be better to instead make more general improvements to page
allocator if this is still so slow.

Christoph Hellwig df41017eaf ia64: remove support for machvecs
The only thing remaining of the machvecs is a few checks if we are
running on an SGI UV system.  Replace those with the existing
is_uv_system() check that has been rewritten to simply check the
OEM ID directly.

That leaves us with a generic kernel that is as fast as the previous
DIG/ZX1/UV kernels, but can support all hardware.  Support for UV
and the HP SBA IOMMU is now optional based on new config options.

Christoph Hellwig 974f83ec1e ia64: rework iommu probing
ia64 currently organizes the iommu probing along machves, which isn't
very helpful.  Instead just try to probe for Intel IOMMUs in mem_init
as they are properly described in ACPI and if none was found initialize
the swiotlb buffer.  The HP SBA handling is then only done delayed when
the actual hardware is probed. Only in the case that we actually found
usable IOMMUs we then set up the DMA ops and free the not needed
swiotlb buffer.  This scheme gets rid of the need for the dma_init
machvec operation, and the dig_vtd machvec.

Christoph Hellwig fc5bad0370 ia64: remove the hpsim platform
The hpsim platform supports the HP IA64 simulator which was useful as a
bring up platform.  But it is fairly non-standard vs real IA64 system
in that it for example doesn't support ACPI.  It also comes with a
whole bunch of simulator specific drivers.  Remove it to simplify the
IA64 port.

Note that through a weird twist only them hpsim boot loader built the
vmlinux.gz file, so the makefile targets for that are moved to the
main ia64 Makefile now.

     motivation was to remove IPI disturbance of isolated RT-workload
     CPUs, which resulted in the implementation of batched jump-label
     updates. Beyond the improvement of the real-time characteristics
     kernel, in one test this patchset improved static key update
     overhead from 57 msecs to just 1.4 msecs - which is a nice speedup
     as well.

   - atomic64_t cross-arch type cleanups by Mark Rutland: over the last
     ~10 years of atomic64_t existence the various types used by the
     APIs only had to be self-consistent within each architecture -
     which means they became wildly inconsistent across architectures.
     Mark puts and end to this by reworking all the atomic64
     implementations to use 's64' as the base type for atomic64_t, and
     to ensure that this type is consistently used for parameters and
     return values in the API, avoiding further problems in this area.

   - A large set of small improvements to lockdep by Yuyang Du: type

Mark Rutland d84e28d250 locking/atomic, ia64: Use s64 for atomic64
As a step towards making the atomic64 API use consistent types treewide,
let's have the ia64 atomic64 implementation use s64 as the underlying
type for atomic64_t, rather than long or __s64, matching the generated
headers.

As atomic64_read() depends on the generic defintion of atomic64_t, this
still returns long. This will be converted in a subsequent patch.

Otherwise, there should be no functional change as a result of this
patch.

Will Deacon 49ca6462fc ia64/mmiowb: Add unconditional mmiowb() to arch_spin_unlock()
The mmiowb() macro is horribly difficult to use and drivers will continue
to work most of the time if they omit a call when it is required.

Rather than rely on driver authors getting this right, push mmiowb() into
arch_spin_unlock() for ia64. If this is deemed to be a performance issue,
a subsequent optimisation could make use of ARCH_HAS_MMIOWB to elide
the barrier in cases where no I/O writes were performed inside the
critical section.

After removing the start and count arguments of syscall_get_arguments() it
seems reasonable to remove them from syscall_set_arguments(). Note, as of
today, there are no users of syscall_set_arguments(). But we are told that
there will be soon. But for now, at least make it consistent with
syscall_get_arguments().

At Linux Plumbers, Andy Lutomirski approached me and pointed out that the
function call syscall_get_arguments() implemented in x86 was horribly
written and not optimized for the standard case of passing in 0 and 6 for
the starting index and the number of system calls to get. When looking at
all the users of this function, I discovered that all instances pass in only
0 and 6 for these arguments. Instead of having this function handle
different cases that are never used, simply rewrite it to return the first 6
arguments of a system call.

This should help out the performance of tracing system calls by ptrace,
ftrace and perf.

Waiman Long 46ad0840b1 locking/rwsem: Remove arch specific rwsem files
As the generic rwsem-xadd code is using the appropriate acquire and
release versions of the atomic operations, the arch specific rwsem.h
files will not be that much faster than the generic code as long as the
atomic functions are properly implemented. So we can remove those arch
specific rwsem.h and stop building asm/rwsem.h to reduce maintenance
effort.

Currently, only x86, alpha and ia64 have implemented architecture
specific fast paths. I don't have access to alpha and ia64 systems for
testing, but they are legacy systems that are not likely to be updated
to the latest kernel anyway.

By using a rwsem microbenchmark, the total locking rates on a 4-socket
56-core 112-thread x86-64 system before and after the patch were as
follows (mixed means equal # of read and write locks):

There were some run-to-run variations for the multi-thread tests. For
x86-64, using the generic C code fast path seems to be a little bit
faster than the assembly version with low lock contention.  Looking at
the assembly version of the fast paths, there are assembly to/from C
code wrappers that save and restore all the callee-clobbered registers
(7 registers on x86-64). The assembly generated from the generic C
code doesn't need to do that. That may explain the slight performance
gain here.

The generic asm rwsem.h can also be merged into kernel/locking/rwsem.h
with no code change as no other code other than those under
kernel/locking needs to access the internal rwsem macros and functions.
