This patch adds the support for the Energy-Efficient Ethernet (EEE)
to the Physical Abstraction Layer.
To support the EEE we have to access to the MMD registers 3.20 and
7.60/61. So two new functions have been added to read/write the MMD
registers (clause 45).
An Ethernet driver (I tested the stmmac) can invoke the phy_init_eee to properly
check if the EEE is supported by the PHYs and it can also set the clock
stop enable bit in the 3.0 register.
The phy_get_eee_err can be used for reporting the number of time where
the PHY failed to complete its normal wake sequence.
In the end, this patch also adds the EEE ethtool support implementing:
o phy_ethtool_set_eee
o phy_ethtool_get_eee
v1: initial patch
v2: fixed some errors especially on naming convention
v3: renamed again the mmd read/write functions thank to Ben's feedback
v4: moved file to phy.c and added the ethtool support.
v5: fixed phy_adv_to_eee, phy_eee_to_supported, phy_eee_to_adv return
values according to ethtool API (thanks to Ben's feedback).
Renamed some macros to avoid too long names.
v6: fixed kernel-doc comments to be properly parsed.
Fixed the phy_init_eee function: we need to check which link mode
was autonegotiated and then the corresponding bits in 7.60 and 7.61
registers.
v7: reviewed the way to get the negotiated settings.
v8: fixed a problem in the phy_init_eee return value erroneously added
when included the phy_read_status call.
v9: do not remove the MDIO_AN_EEE_ADV_100TX and MDIO_AN_EEE_ADV_1000T
and fixed the eee_{cap,lp,adv} declaration as "int" instead of u16.

Add a driver for BCM8706 and BCM8727 devices. These are a 10Gig PHYs

there is no autonegotiation. All we do is report link state and send
interrupts when it changes.

Allow PHY drivers to supply their own device matching function
(match_phy_device()), or to be matched OF compatible properties.
PHYs following IEEE802.3 clause 45 have more than one device
identifier constants, which breaks the default device matching code.
Other 10G PHYs don't follow the standard manufacturer/device
identifier register layout standards, but they do use the standard
MDIO bus protocols for register access. Both of these require
adjustments to the PHY driver to device matching code.
If the there is an of_node associated with such a PHY, we can match it
to its driver using the "compatible" properties, just as we do with
certain platform devices. If the "compatible" property match fails,
first check if there is a driver supplied matching function, and if
not fall back to the existing identifier matching rules.

The IEEE802.3 clause 45 MDIO bus protocol allows for directly
addressing PHY registers using a 21 bit address, and is used by many
10G Ethernet PHYS. Already existing is the ability of MDIO bus
drivers to use clause 45, with the MII_ADDR_C45 flag. Here we add
struct phy_c45_device_ids to hold the device identifier registers
present in clause 45. struct phy_device gets a couple of new fields:
c45_ids to hold the identifiers and is_c45 to signal that it is clause
45.
get_phy_device() gets a new parameter is_c45 to indicate that the PHY
device should use the clause 45 protocol, and its callers are adjusted
to pass false. The follow-on patch to of_mdio.c will pass true where
appropriate.
EXPORT phy_device_create() so that the follow-on patch to of_mdio.c
can use it to create phy devices for PHYs, that have non-standard
device identifier registers, based on the device tree bindings.

On a freescale imx6q platform, a hardware phy chip KSZ9021 is
recognized as a KS8001 chip by the current driver like this:
eth0: Freescale FEC PHY driver [Micrel KS8001 or KS8721]
KSZ9021 has phy_id 0x00221610, while KSZ8001 has phy_id
0x0022161a, the current phy_id_mask (0x00fffff0/0x00ffff10) can't
distinguish them. So change phy_id_mask to resolve this problem.
Although the micrel datasheet says that the 4 LSB of phyid2 register
contains the chip revision number and the current driver is designed
to follow this rule, in reality the chip implementation doesn't follow
it.

This patch adds a somewhat generic framework for MDIO bus
multiplexers. It is modeled on the I2C multiplexer.
The multiplexer is needed if there are multiple PHYs with the same
address connected to the same MDIO bus adepter, or if there is
insufficient electrical drive capability for all the connected PHY
devices.
Conceptually it could look something like this:
------------------
| Control Signal |
--------+---------
|
--------------- --------+------
| MDIO MASTER |---| Multiplexer |
--------------- --+-------+----
| |
C C
h h
i i
l l

--------- A B ---------

| | | | | |
--------- | | ---------
--------- | | ---------
| | | | | |
| PHY@2 +-------+ +---+ PHY@2 |
| | | |
--------- ---------
This framework configures the bus topology from device tree data. The
mechanics of switching the multiplexer is left to device specific
drivers.

Add of_mdio_find_bus() which allows an mii_bus to be located given its
associated the device tree node.
This is needed by the follow-on patch to add a driver for MDIO bus
multiplexers.
The of_mdiobus_register() function is modified so that the device tree
node is recorded in the mii_bus. Then we can find it again by
iterating over all mdio_bus_class devices.
Because the OF device tree has now become an integral part of the
kernel, this can live in mdio_bus.c (which contains the needed
mdio_bus_class structure) instead of of_mdio.c.

This branch takes the PowerPC irq_host infrastructure (reverse mapping
from Linux IRQ numbers to hardware irq numbering), generalizes it,
renames it to irq_domain, and makes it available to all architectures.
Originally the plan has been to create an all-new irq_domain
implementation which addresses some of the powerpc shortcomings such
as not handling 1:1 mappings well, but doing that proved to be far
more difficult and invasive than generalizing the working code and
refactoring it in-place. So, this branch rips out the 'new'
irq_domain and replaces it with the modified powerpc version (in a
fully bisectable way of course). It converts all users over to the
new API and makes irq_domain selectable on any architecture.
No architecture is forced to enable irq_domain, but the infrastructure
is required for doing OpenFirmware style irq translations. It will
even work on SPARC even though SPARC has it's own mechanism for
translating irqs at boot time. MIPS, microblaze, embedded x86 and c6x
are converted too.
The resulting irq_domain code is probably still too verbose and can be
optimized more, but that can be done incrementally and is a task for
follow-on patches.

Introduce function mdiobus_alloc_size() as an alternative to mdiobus_alloc().
Most callers of mdiobus_alloc() also allocate a private data structure, and
then manually point bus->priv to this object. mdiobus_alloc_size()
combines the two operations into one, which simplifies memory management.
The original mdiobus_alloc() now just calls mdiobus_alloc_size(0).

SMSC generation 4 LAN chips integrate an IEEE 802.3 ethernet physical layer.

The Vitesse driver was using the RGMII_ID interface type to determine if
skew was necessary. However, we want to move away from using that
interface type, as it's really a property of the board's PHY connection.
However, some boards depend on it, so we want to support it, while
allowing new boards to use the more flexible "fixups" approach. To do
this, we extract the code which adds skew into its own function, and
call that function when RGMII_ID has been selected.
Another side-effect of this change is that if your PHY has skew set
already, it doesn't clear it. This way, the fixup code can modify the
register without config_init then clearing it.

The dp83640 PHY provides time stamp and other information via special
PHY status frames. Previously, the driver decoded the frames and then
let the network stack drop them. This works fine when the PTP messages
come over UDP.
However, when receiving PTP messages via L2 packets, this creates a
problem. The status frames use the official PTP destination MAC address,
and so they are delivered to user space along with the "real" frames,
causing confusion for applications.
This commit fixes the issue by simply dropping the PHY status frames
in the driver.

Some aspects of PHY initialization are board dependent, things like
indicator LED connections and some clocking modes cannot be determined
by probing. The dev_flags element of struct phy_device can be used to
control these things if an appropriate value can be passed from the
Ethernet driver. We run into problems however if the PHY connections
are specified by the device tree. There is no way for the Ethernet
driver to know what flags it should pass.
If we are using the device tree, the struct phy_device will be
populated with the device tree node corresponding to the PHY, and we
can extract extra configuration information from there.
The next question is what should the format of that information be?
It is highly device specific, and the device tree representation
should not be tied to any arbitrary kernel defined constants. A
straight forward representation is just to specify the exact bits that
should be set using the "marvell,reg-init" property:
phy5: ethernet-phy@5 {
reg = <5>;
compatible = "marvell,88e1149r";
marvell,reg-init =
/* led[0]:1000, led[1]:100, led[2]:10, led[3]:tx */
<3 0x10 0 0x5777>, /* Reg 3,16 <- 0x5777 */
/* mix %:0, led[0123]:drive low off hiZ */
<3 0x11 0 0x00aa>, /* Reg 3,17 <- 0x00aa */
/* default blink periods. */
<3 0x12 0 0x4105>, /* Reg 3,18 <- 0x4105 */
/* led[4]:rx, led[5]:dplx, led[45]:drive low off hiZ */
<3 0x13 0 0x0a60>; /* Reg 3,19 <- 0x0a60 */
};
phy6: ethernet-phy@6 {
reg = <6>;
compatible = "marvell,88e1118";
marvell,reg-init =
/* Fix rx and tx clock transition timing */
<2 0x15 0xffcf 0>, /* Reg 2,21 Clear bits 4, 5 */
/* Adjust LED drive. */
<3 0x11 0 0x442a>, /* Reg 3,17 <- 0442a */
/* irq, blink-activity, blink-link */
<3 0x10 0 0x0242>; /* Reg 3,16 <- 0x0242 */
};
The Marvell PHYs have a page select register at register 22 (0x16), we
can specify any register by its page and register number. These are
the first and second word. The third word contains a mask to be ANDed
with the existing register value, and the fourth word is ORed with the
result to yield the new register value. The new marvell_of_reg_init
function leaves the page select register unchanged, so a call to it
can be dropped into the .config_init functions without unduly
affecting the state of the PHY.
If CONFIG_OF_MDIO is not set, there is no of_node, or no
"marvell,reg-init" property, the PHY initialization is unchanged.

On resume, before starting the PAL state machine, check if the
adjust_link() method is well supplied. If not, this would lead to a
NULL pointer dereference in the phy_state_machine() function.
This scenario can happen if the Ethernet driver call manually the PHY
functions instead of using the PAL state machine. The mv643xx_eth driver
is a such example.

Here is why. Drivers store phydev in their private structures, e.g.
gianfar driver:
static int init_phy(struct net_device *dev)
{
...
priv->phydev = of_phy_connect(...);
...
}
So that adjust_link could retrieve it back:
static void adjust_link(struct net_device *dev)
{
...
struct phy_device *phydev = priv->phydev;
...
}
If the device has been opened before, then phydev->state is set to
PHY_HALTED (or undefined if the driver didn't call phy_stop()).
Now, phy_connect starts the PHY state machine before returning phydev to
the driver:
phy_start_machine(phydev, NULL);
if (phydev->irq > 0)
phy_start_interrupts(phydev);
return phydev;
The time between 'phy_start_machine()' and 'return phydev' is undefined.
The start machine routine delays execution for 1 second, which is enough
for most cases. But under heavy load, or if you're unlucky, it is quite
possible that PHY state machine will execute before phy_connect()
returns, and so adjust_link callback will try to dereference phydev,
which is not yet ready.
To fix the issue, simply initialize the PHY's state to PHY_READY during
phy_attach(). This will ensure that phylib won't call adjust_link before
phy_start().

This patch adds a new networking option to allow hardware time stamps
from PHY devices. When enabled, likely candidates among incoming and
outgoing network packets are offered to the PHY driver for possible
time stamping. When accepted by the PHY driver, incoming packets are
deferred for later delivery by the driver.
The patch also adds phylib driver methods for the SIOCSHWTSTAMP ioctl
and callbacks for transmit and receive time stamping. Drivers may

The phy_mii_ioctl() function unnecessarily throws away the original ifreq.
We need access to the ifreq in order to support PHYs that can perform
hardware time stamping.
Two maverick drivers filter the ioctl commands passed to phy_mii_ioctl().
This is unnecessary since phylib will check the command in any case.

.name, .match_table and .owner are duplicated in both of_platform_driver

of_platform_driver and converts all users to the device_driver members.
This patch is a pretty mechanical change. The usage model doesn't change
and if any drivers have been missed, or if anything has been fixed up
incorrectly, then it will fail with a compile time error, and the fixup
will be trivial. This patch looks big and scary because it touches so
many files, but it should be pretty safe.

percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being
included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which
in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files
universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies.
percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for
this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those
headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion
needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is
used as the basis of conversion.
http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py
The script does the followings.
* Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that
only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used,
gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h.
* When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include
blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms
to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains
core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered -
alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there
doesn't seem to be any matching order.
* If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly
because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out
an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the
file.
The conversion was done in the following steps.
1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly
over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h
and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400
files.
2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion,
some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or
embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added
inclusions to around 150 files.
3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits
from #2 to make sure no file was left behind.
4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed.
e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab
APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually.
5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically
editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h
files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h
inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually
wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each
slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as
necessary.
6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h.
7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures
were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my
distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few
more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things
build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq).
* x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config.
* powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig
* sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig
* ia64 SMP allmodconfig
* s390 SMP allmodconfig
* alpha SMP allmodconfig
* um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig
8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as
a separate patch and serve as bisection point.
Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step
6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch.
If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch
headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of
the specific arch.

IEEE 802.3ae clause 45 specifies a somewhat modified MDIO protocol
for use by 10GIGE phys. The main change is a 21 bit address split into
a 5 bit device ID and a 16 bit register offset. The definition is designed
so that normal and extended devices can run on the same MDIO bus.
Extend mdio-bitbang to do the new protocol. At the MDIO bus level the
protocol is requested by or'ing MII_ADDR_C45 into the register offset.
Make phy_read/phy_write/etc pass a full 32 bit register offset.
This does not attempt to make the phy layer support C45 style PHYs, just
to provide the MDIO bus support.

commit 541cd3ee00 ("phylib: Fix deadlock

The oops pops up because TI DaVinci EMAC driver detaches PHY on
suspend and attaches it back on resume. Attaching makes phylib call
phy_start_machine() that initializes a workqueue. On the other hand,
PHY's resume routine will call phy_start_machine() again, and that
will cause the oops since we just destroyed the already scheduled
workqueue.
This patch fixes the issue by moving workqueue initialization to
phy_device_create().
p.s. We don't see this oops with ucc_geth and gianfar drivers because
they perform a fine-grained suspend, i.e. they just stop the PHYs
without detaching.
