Dirk Brandewie 1d31b58f64 i2c-designware: Move retriveving the clock speed out of core code.
The clock frequecy supplied to the IP core is specific to a single
instance of the driver. This patch makes it possible to have multiple
Designware I2C cores in the system possibly running at different core

Dirk Brandewie 2373f6b974 i2c-designware: split of i2c-designware.c into core and bus specific parts
This patch splits i2c-designware.c into three pieces:
i2c-designware-core.c, contains the code that interacts directly
     with the core.

i2c-designware-platdrv.c, contains the code specific to the
     platform driver using the core.

i2c-designware-core.h contains the definitions and declareations
     shared by i2c-designware-core.c and i2c-designware-platdrv.c.

This patch is the first in a set to allow multiple instances of the
designware I2C core in the system.

Kevin Hilman fab67afb54 I2C: OMAP: remove dev->idle, use usage counting provided by runtime PM
Current usage of runtime PM is not quite correct. The actual
idle/unidle of the I2C hardware should not happen until the runtime PM
callbacks are called. Therefore, change omap_i2c_[un]idle() functions
to only be called from the runtime PM callbacks (when usage count
transitions to/from zero.)

Also, the runtime PM core does usage counting and replaces
functionality currently managed by the dev->idle flag. Remove usage
of dev->idle in favor of using runtime PM, and checking status using
pm_runtime_suspended().

Andy Green 4e80f727bf I2C: OMAP2+: address confused probed version naming
The driver reflects the confusion that probed I2C revision
from the hardware of 0x40 means it is on an OMAP4430.

However, you will probe the same 0x40 ID on an OMAP3530. So
this patch changes the name to reflect that.

It also clarifies that the original name OMAP_I2C_REV_2 is
referring to some ancient OMAP1 revision number, not to be
confused with the IP revisions this patch series introduces.

Similarly the term "rev" is used in the ancient OMAP1 ISR,
the term is changed to use omap1 instead.

Andy Green 6314f09e95 I2C: OMAP2+: Solve array bounds overflow error on i2c idle
This solves the main problem the patch series is about. Prior
to this patch on OMAP3530 the driver wrongly interprets the I2C
peripheral unit's own reported revision as meaning it is running
on an IP V2 device and must use the extended registers.

In fact OMAP3530 is IP V1 with the smaller register set, the
reason for the confusion is that the hardware does in fact report
having the same IP revision index as is found on an OMAP4430,
which really is IP V2 and has the extended registers.

This corrects the test for which registers to use so that it
decides using hwmod knowledge found in the platform_data.

Andy Green b885308841 I2C: OMAP2+: Name registers in I2C IP V2 only accordingly
The OMAP I2C driver dynamically chooses between two register sets of
differing sizes depending on the cpu type it finds itself on.

It has been observed that the existing code references non-existing
registers on OMAP3530, because while it correctly chose the smaller
register layout based on cpu type, the code uses the probed register
ID to decide if to execute code referencing an extra register, and
both register layout devices on OMAP3530 and OMAP4430 report the same
probed ID of 0x40.

This patch changes the extended register names only found on IP V2
of the I2C peripheral unit accordingly to help show up errors in usage.

Arnd Bergmann 8a0a8e8e42 mfd: remove CONFIG_MFD_SUPPORT
We currently have two symbols to control compilation the MFD subsystem,
MFD_SUPPORT and MFD_CORE. The MFD_SUPPORT is actually not required
at all, it only hides the submenu when not set, with the effect that
Kconfig warns about missing dependencies when another driver selects
an MFD driver while MFD_SUPPORT is disabled. Turning the MFD submenu
back from menuconfig into a plain menu simplifies the Kconfig syntax
for those kinds of users and avoids the surprise when the menu
suddenly appears because another driver was enabled that selects this
symbol.

Currently, if an i2c bus driver supports both static and dynamic bus

Sonic Zhang 4a65163e3b i2c-bfin-twi: abort transfer is MEM bit is reset unexpectedly
Sometimes, the first I2C transmit interrupt is not serviced in time (like
when higher priority interrupts take too long). Since the RESTART bit is
not set before the next I2C clock, when the TWI handler is finally called,
the I2C session is aborted (MEM bit is reset) and both SMITSERV and MCOMP
int status bits are set.

So when this happens, abort the transfer.

Stephen Warren 5afa9d3578 i2c: tegra: Assign unused slave address
On Tegra, we should always use the "new" I2C slave controller, to avoid
issues with the old controller. This was implemented in commit 65a1a0a
"i2c: tegra: Enable new slave mode."

There is currently no driver for the Tegra I2C slave controller upstream.
Additionally, the controller cannot be completely disabled. Instead, we
need to:

a) Set I2C_SL_CNFG_NACK to make the controller automatically NACK any
incoming transactions.

b) The controller's definition of NACK isn't identical to the I2C
protocol's definition. Specifically, it will perform a standard NACK, but
*also* continue to hold the clock line low in expectation of receiving
more data. This can hang the bus, or at least cause transaction timeouts,
if something starts a transaction that matches the controller's slave
address. Since the default address is 0x00, the general call address,
this does occur in practice.

To avoid this, we explicitly program a slave address that is reserved for
future expansion. For current boards, this guarantees the address will
never be used. If a future board ever needs to use this address, we can
add platform data to determine a board-specific safe address. 0xfc is
picked by this patch.

This patch is based on a change previously posted by: Wei Ni <wni@nvidia.com>
http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-i2c/msg05437.html
In turned based on internal changes by: Bharat Nihalani <bnihalani@nvidia.com>

A semantically equivalent change has been contained in the various
ChromeOS kernels for a while.

I tested this change on top of 3.0-rc2 on Harmony, and interacted with
the WM8903 I2C-based audio codec.

With the addition of a device platform mfd_cell pointer, MFD drivers

Grant Likely b1608d69cb drivercore: revert addition of of_match to struct device
Commit b826291c, "drivercore/dt: add a match table pointer to struct
device" added an of_match pointer to struct device to cache the
of_match_table entry discovered at driver match time. This was unsafe
because matching is not an atomic operation with probing a driver. If
two or more drivers are attempted to be matched to a driver at the
same time, then the cached matching entry pointer could get
overwritten.

This patch reverts the of_match cache pointer and reworks all users to
call of_match_device() directly instead.

Re-init the I2C controller when an IRQ arrives with no
I2C_INT_STATUS bits set to indicate why the interrupt was sent.
Storms of such mystery interrupts are infrequently seen.

Dump some more status when these interrupts arrive. Set an error
for the current request and wake up the requester (rather than
timing out the request or possibly silently ignoring the interrupts).

If the I2C block is inside the DVC, also ACK the DVC I2C transfer
done interrupt in the ISR error return path, as is done for the
normal return path.

Richard woodruff cb527ede1b i2c-omap: Double clear of ARDY status in IRQ handler
This errata occurs when the ARDY interrupt generation is enabled.
At the begining of every new transaction the ARDY interrupt is cleared.

On continuous i2c transactions where after clearing the ARDY bit from
I2C_STAT register (clearing the interrupt), the IRQ line is reasserted and the
I2C_STAT[ARDY] bit set again on 1. In fact, the ARDY status bit is not cleared
at the write access to I2C_STAT[ARDY] and only the IRQ line is deasserted and
then reasserted. This is not captured in the usual errata documents.

The workaround is to have a double clear of ARDY status in irq handler.

Kevin Hilman adf6e07922 i2c-omap: fix static suspend vs. runtime suspend
When runtime PM is enabled, each OMAP i2c device is suspended after
each i2c xfer. However, there are two cases when the static suspend
methods must be used to ensure the devices are suspended:

1) runtime PM is disabled, either at compile time or dynamically
    via /sys/devices/.../power/control.
2) an i2c client driver uses i2c during it's suspend callback, thus
leaving the i2c driver active (NOTE: runtime suspend transitions are
disabled during system suspend, so i2c activity during system
suspend will runtime resume the device, but not runtime (re)suspend it.)

Since the actual work to suspend the device is handled by the
subsytem, call the bus methods to take care of it.

NOTE: This takes care of a known suspend problem on OMAP3 where the
TWL RTC driver does i2c xfers during its suspend path leaving the i2c
driver in an active state (since runtime suspend transistions are
disabled.)

Andres Salomon de8255ccd2 i2c: Convert SCx200 driver from using raw PCI to platform device
The SCx200 ACB driver supports ISA hardware as well as PCI. The PCI
hardware is CS5535/CS5536 based, and the device that it grabs is handled by
the cs5535-mfd driver. This converts the SCx200 driver to use a
platform_driver rather than the previous PCI hackery.

The driver used to manually track the iface list (via linked list); now it
only does this for ISA devices. PCI ifaces are handled through standard
driver model lists.

It's unclear what happens in case of errors in the old ISA code; rather than
pretending the code actually cares, I've dropped the (implicit) ignorance
of return values and marked it with a comment.

Rodolfo Giometti eda6bee6c7 i2c-mv64xxx: send repeated START between messages in xfer
As stated into file include/linux/i2c.h we must send a repeated START
between messages in the same xfer groupset:

 * Except when I2C "protocol mangling" is used, all I2C adapters implement
 * the standard rules for I2C transactions. Each transaction begins with a
 * START. That is followed by the slave address, and a bit encoding read
 * versus write. Then follow all the data bytes, possibly including a byte
 * with SMBus PEC. The transfer terminates with a NAK, or when all those
 * bytes have been transferred and ACKed. If this is the last message in a
 * group, it is followed by a STOP. Otherwise it is followed by the next
 * @i2c_msg transaction segment, beginning with a (repeated) START.

restriction it's not something we hit on the actual platform so while
I will investigate that further I don't think its a blocker to submission.
At worst its a spot over-restrictive)

From: Wen Wang <wen.w.wang@intel.com>

Initial release of the driver. Updated and verified on hardware.

Cleaned up as follows

Alan Cox:
Squash down the switches into tables, and use the PCI ident field. We
could perhaps take this further and put the platform and port number into
   this.
   uint32t -> u32
   bracketing of case statements
   spacing and '!' usage
Check the speed (which is now 0/1/2) is valid and ignore otherwise.
Fix remaining problems/suggestions from Jean's review
   Fix items from Ben's review

Arjan van de Ven:
   Initial power management hooks

Yong Wang <youg.y.wang@intel.com>:
   Shared IRQ support

Wen Wang <wen.w.wang@intel.com>:
   D3 support
   Fixes for OCT test runs
   Interrupt optimisations

Hong Liu <hong.liu@intel.com>
The runtime PM code is working on the wrong device (i2c_adapter->dev).
The correct one should be pci_dev->dev. This breaks attached i2c
slave devices with runtime PM enabled. Slave device needs to runtime
resume parent device before runtime resuming itself, but we always get
error since we don't have pm_runtime callback for i2c_adapter->dev.

Bin Yang <bin.yang@intel.com>:
   Update speed table

Clear all interrupts in the hardware init

Julia Lawall 9cb2c2726e i2c-amd8111: Add proper error handling
The functions the functions amd_ec_wait_write and amd_ec_wait_read have an
unsigned return type, but return a negative constant to indicate an error
condition.

A sematic match that finds this problem is as follows:

// <smpl>
@exists@
identifier f;
constant C;
@@

 unsigned f(...)
 { <+...
*  return -C;
 ...+> }
// </smpl>

Fixing amd_ec_wait_write and amd_ec_wait_read leads to the need to adjust
the return type of the functions amd_ec_write and amd_ec_read, which are
the only functions that call amd_ec_wait_write and amd_ec_wait_read.
amd_ec_write and amd_ec_read, in turn, are only called from within the
function amd8111_access, which already returns a signed typed value. Each
of the calls to amd_ec_write and amd_ec_read are updated using the
following semantic patch:

// <smpl>

@@

+ status = amd_ec_write
- amd_ec_write
  (...);

@@
@@

+ status = amd_ec_read

Marc Kleine-Budde e39428d53d i2c-imx: do not allow interruptions when waiting for I2C to complete
The i2c_imx_trx_complete() function is using
wait_event_interruptible_timeout() to wait for the I2C controller to
signal that it has completed an I2C bus operation. If the process that
causes the I2C operation receives a signal, the wait will be
interrupted, returning an error. It is better to let the I2C operation
finished before handling the signal (i.e. returning into userspace).

It is safe to use wait_event_timeout() instead, because the timeout
will allow the process to exit if the I2C bus hangs. It's also better
to allow the I2C operation to finish, because unacknowledged I2C
operations can cause the I2C bus to hang.

Grant Likely 925bb9c649 of/i2c: Fix module load order issue caused by of_i2c.c
Commit 959e85f7, "i2c: add OF-style registration and binding" caused a
module dependency loop where of_i2c.c calls functions in i2c-core, and
i2c-core calls of_i2c_register_devices() in of_i2c. This means that
when i2c support is built as a module when CONFIG_OF is set, then
neither i2c_core nor of_i2c are able to be loaded.

This patch fixes the problem by moving the of_i2c_register_devices()
calls back into the device drivers. Device drivers already
specifically request the core code to parse the device tree for
devices anyway by setting the of_node pointer, so it isn't a big
deal to also call the registration function. The drivers just become
slightly more verbose.

Jon Povey 4bba0fd8d1 i2c-davinci: Fix race when setting up for TX
When setting up to transmit, a race exists between the ISR and
i2c_davinci_xfer_msg() trying to load the first byte and adjust counters.
This is mostly visible for transmits > 1 byte long.

The hardware starts sending immediately that MDR is loaded. IMR trickery
doesn't work because if we start sending, finish the first byte and an
XRDY event occurs before we load IMR to unmask it, we never get an
interrupt, and we timeout.

Move the MDR load after DXR,IMR loads to avoid this race without locking.

Philby John 8574faf9a5 i2c: davinci: bus recovery procedure to clear the bus
Come out of i2c time out condition by following the
bus recovery procedure outlined in the i2c protocol v3 spec.
The kernel must be robust enough to gracefully recover
from i2c bus failure without having to reset the machine.
This is done by first NACKing the slave, pulsing the SCL
line 9 times and then sending the stop command.

Albrecht Dreß 0c2daaafcd powerpc/5200/i2c: improve i2c bus error recovery
This patch improves the recovery of the MPC's I2C bus from errors like bus
hangs resulting in timeouts:
1. make the bus timeout configurable, as it depends on the bus clock and
    the attached slave chip(s); default is still 1 second;
2. detect any of the cases indicated by the CF, BB and RXAK MSR flags if a
    timeout occurs, and add a missing (required) MAL reset;
3. use a more reliable method to fixup the bus if a hang has been detected.
The sequence is sent 9 times which seems to be necessary if a slave
"misses" more than one clock cycle. For 400 kHz bus speed, the fixup is
    also ~70us (81us vs. 150us) faster.

Tested on a custom Lite5200b derived board, with a Dallas RTC, AD sensors
and NXP IO expander chips attached to the i2c.

Changes vs. v1:
- use improved bus fixup sequence for all chips (not only the 5200)
- calculate real clock from defaults if no clock is given in the device tree
- better description (I hope) of the changes.

I didn't split the changes in this file into three parts as recommended by
Grant, as they actually belong together (i.e. they address one single
problem, just in three places of one single source file).

This patch is a pretty mechanical change. The usage model doesn't change

will be trivial. This patch looks big and scary because it touches so

Kalle Jokiniemi 20c9d2c4ab i2c-omap: add mpu wake up latency constraint in i2c
While waiting for completion of the i2c transfer, the
MPU could hit OFF mode and cause several msecs of
delay that made i2c transfers fail more often. The
extra delays and subsequent re-trys cause i2c clocks
to be active more often. This has also an negative
effect on power consumption.

Created a mechanism for passing and using the
constraint setting function in driver code. The used
mpu wake up latency constraints are now set individually
per bus, and they are calculated based on clock rate
and fifo size.

Thanks to Jarkko Nikula, Moiz Sonasath, Paul Walmsley,
and Nishanth Menon for tuning out the details of
this patch.

Updates by Kevin as requested by Tony:

- Remove omap_set_i2c_constraint_func() in favor of conditionally
adding the flag in omap_i2c_add_bus() in order to keep all the OMAP
conditional checking in a single location.
- Update set_mpu_wkup_lat prototypes to match OMAP PM layer so
OMAP PM function can be used directly in pdata.

Santosh Shilimkar f38e66e007 omap: i2c: Add i2c support on omap4 platform
This patch is rebased version of earlier post to add I2C
driver support to OMAP4 platform. On OMAP4, all
I2C register address offsets are changed from OMAP1/2/3 I2C.
In order to not have #ifdef's at various places in code,
as well as to support multi-OMAP build, an array is created
to hold the register addresses with it's offset.

This patch was submitted, reviewed and acked on mailing list
already. For more details refer below link

Mark Brown 1bc2962e53 i2c-s3c2410: Remove unconditional 1ms delay on each transfer
The S3C I2C controller indicates completion of I2C transfers before
the bus has a stop condition on it. In order to ensure that we do not
attempt to start a new transfer before the bus is idle the driver
currently inserts a 1ms delay. This is vastly larger than is generally
required and has a visible effect on performance under load, such as
when bringing up audio CODECs or reading back status information with
non-bulk I2C reads.

Replace the sleep with a spin on the IIC status register for up to 1ms.
This will busy wait but testing on my SMDK6410 system indicates that
the overwhelming majority of transactions complete on the first spin,
with maximum latencies of less than 10 spins so the absolute overhead
of busy waiting should be at worst comprable to msleep(), and the
overall system performance is dramatically improved.

The main risk is poor interaction with multimaster systems where
we may miss the bus going idle before the next transaction. Defend
against this by falling back to the original 1ms delay after 20 spins.

The overall effect in my testing is an approximately 20% improvement
in kernel startup time.

Tejun Heo 5a0e3ad6af include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h
percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being
included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which
in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files
universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies.

percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for
this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those
headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion
needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is
used as the basis of conversion.

  http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py

The script does the followings.

* Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that
only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used,
gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h.

* When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include
blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms
to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains
core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered -
alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there
doesn't seem to be any matching order.

* If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly
because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out
an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the
  file.

The conversion was done in the following steps.

1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly
over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h
and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400
   files.

2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion,
some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or
embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added
   inclusions to around 150 files.

3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits
from #2 to make sure no file was left behind.

4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed.
   e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab
APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually.

5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically
editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h
files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h
inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually
wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each
slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as
   necessary.

6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h.

7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures
were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my
distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few
more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things
build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq).

   * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config.
   * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig
   * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig
   * ia64 SMP allmodconfig
   * s390 SMP allmodconfig
   * alpha SMP allmodconfig
   * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig

8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as
a separate patch and serve as bisection point.

Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step
6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch.
If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch
headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of
the specific arch.

Uwe Kleine-König 1139aea97a i2c: move i2c_omap's probe function to .devinit.text
A pointer to omap_i2c_probe is passed to the core via
platform_driver_register and so the function must not disappear when the
.init sections are discarded. Otherwise (if also having HOTPLUG=y)
unbinding and binding a device to the driver via sysfs will result in an
oops as does a device being registered late.

An alternative to this patch is using platform_driver_probe instead of
platform_driver_register plus removing the pointer to the probe function
from the struct platform_driver.

Richard Röjfors e1d5b6598c i2c: Add support for Xilinx XPS IIC Bus Interface
This patch adds support for the Xilinx XPS IIC Bus Interface.

The driver uses the dynamic mode, supporting to put several
I2C messages in the FIFO to reduce the number of interrupts.

It has the same feature as ocores, it can be passed a list
of devices that will be added when the bus is probed.

Cory Maccarrone d84d3ea317 i2c: omap: Add support for 16-bit registers
The current i2c-omap driver is set up for 32-bit registers, which
corresponds to most OMAP devices. However, OMAP730/850 based
devices use a 16-bit register size.

This change modifies the driver to perform a runtime CPU type check
to determine the register sizes, and uses a bit shift of either 1
or 2 bits to compute the proper register sizes for all registers.

Luotao Fu ad0194e8d6 i2c-pnx: fix setting start/stop condition
The start/stop condtions are set in different places repetedly in the i2c-pnx
driver. Beside in i2c_pnx_start and i2c_pnx_stop the start/stop bit are also
set during the transfer of a i2c message in the master_xmit/rcv calls. This is
wrong since we can't set the start/stop condition during the transaction of a
single message any way. As a matter of fact, the driver will sometimes set both
the start and the stop bits at one time. This can be easily reproduced by
sending a simple read request like e.g
struct i2c_msg msgs[] = {
{ addr, 0, 1, buf },
{ addr, I2C_M_RD, offset, buf }
};
While processing the first message the i2c_pnx_master_xmit will set both the
start_bit and the stop_bit, which will eventually confuse the slave.

Fixed by remove setting start/stop condition from the transmit routines.

Wolfgang Grandegger f00d738f04 i2c-mpc: add support for the MPC512x processors from Freescale
As I2C interrupts must be enabled for the MPC512x by the setup function
as well, "fsl,preserve-clocking" is handled in a slighly different way.
Also, the old settings are now reported calling dev_dbg(). For the
MPC512x the clock setup function of the MPC52xx can be re-used.
Furthermore, the Kconfig help has been updated and corrected.
