Jeff Mahoney 54930dfeb4 reiserfs: don't preallocate blocks for extended attributes
Most extended attributes will fit in a single block. More importantly,
we drop the reference to the inode while holding the transaction open
so the preallocated blocks aren't released. As a result, the inode
may be evicted before it's removed from the transaction's prealloc list
which can cause memory corruption.

Ingo Molnar ac6424b981 sched/wait: Rename wait_queue_t => wait_queue_entry_t
Rename:

	wait_queue_t		=>	wait_queue_entry_t

'wait_queue_t' was always a slight misnomer: its name implies that it's a "queue",
but in reality it's a queue *entry*. The 'real' queue is the wait queue head,
which had to carry the name.

Start sorting this out by renaming it to 'wait_queue_entry_t'.

This also allows the real structure name 'struct __wait_queue' to
lose its double underscore and become 'struct wait_queue_entry',
which is the more canonical nomenclature for such data types.

Jan Kara d8747d642e reiserfs: Make flush bios explicitely sync
Commit b685d3d65a "block: treat REQ_FUA and REQ_PREFLUSH as
synchronous" removed REQ_SYNC flag from WRITE_{FUA|PREFLUSH|...}
definitions. generic_make_request_checks() however strips REQ_FUA and
REQ_PREFLUSH flags from a bio when the storage doesn't report volatile
write cache and thus write effectively becomes asynchronous which can
lead to performance regressions

Fix the problem by making sure all bios which are synchronous are
properly marked with REQ_SYNC.

Jan Kara 33eb928a9e reiserfs: Set flags on quota files directly
Currently immutable and noatime flags on quota files are set by quota
code which requires us to copy inode->i_flags to our on disk version of
quota flags in GETFLAGS ioctl and when writing stat item. Move to
setting / clearing these on-disk flags directly to save that copying.

Jan Kara 1e0e653f11 reiserfs: Protect dquot_writeback_dquots() by s_umount semaphore
dquot_writeback_dquots() expects s_umount semaphore to be held to
protect it from other concurrent quota operations. reiserfs_sync_fs()
can call dquot_writeback_dquots() without holding s_umount semaphore
when called from flush_old_commits().

Fix the problem by grabbing s_umount in flush_old_commits(). However we
have to be careful and use only trylock since reiserfs_cancel_old_sync()
can be waiting for flush_old_commits() to complete while holding
s_umount semaphore. Possible postponing of sync work is not a big deal
though as that is only an opportunistic flush.

Jan Kara 71b0576bdb reiserfs: Make cancel_old_flush() reliable
Currently canceling of delayed work that flushes old data using
cancel_old_flush() does not prevent work from being requeued. Thus
in theory new work can be queued after cancel_old_flush() from
reiserfs_freeze() has run. This will become larger problem once
flush_old_commits() can requeue the work itself.

Fix the problem by recording in sbi->work_queue that flushing work is
canceled and should not be requeued.

Arnd Bergmann ab4949640d reiserfs: avoid a -Wmaybe-uninitialized warning
The latest gcc-7.0.1 snapshot warns about an unintialized variable use:

In file included from fs/reiserfs/lbalance.c:8:0:
fs/reiserfs/lbalance.c: In function 'leaf_item_bottle.isra.3':
fs/reiserfs/reiserfs.h:1279:13: error: '*((void *)&n_ih+8).v' may be used uninitialized in this function [-Werror=maybe-uninitialized]
  v2->v = (v2->v & cpu_to_le64(15ULL << 60)) | cpu_to_le64(offset);
           ~~^~~
fs/reiserfs/reiserfs.h:1279:13: error: '*((void *)&n_ih+8).v' may be used uninitialized in this function [-Werror=maybe-uninitialized]
  v2->v = (v2->v & cpu_to_le64(15ULL << 60)) | cpu_to_le64(offset);

This happens because the offset/type pair that is stored in
ih.key.u.k_offset_v2 is actually uninitialized when we call
set_le_ih_k_offset() and set_le_ih_k_type(). After we have called both,
all data is correct, but the first of the two reads uninitialized data
for the type field and writes it back before it gets overwritten.

This works around the warning by initializing the k_offset_v2 through
the slightly larger memcpy().

[JK: Remove now unused define and make it obvious we initialize the key]

Deepa Dinamani 02027d42c3 fs: Replace CURRENT_TIME_SEC with current_time() for inode timestamps
CURRENT_TIME_SEC is not y2038 safe. current_time() will
be transitioned to use 64 bit time along with vfs in a

There is no plan to transistion CURRENT_TIME_SEC to use
y2038 safe time interfaces.

current_time() will also be extended to use superblock
range checking parameters when range checking is introduced.

This works because alloc_super() fills in the the s_time_gran
in super block to NSEC_PER_SEC.

Christoph Hellwig 70246286e9 block: get rid of bio_rw and READA
These two are confusing leftover of the old world order, combining
values of the REQ_OP_ and REQ_ namespaces. For callers that don't
special case we mostly just replace bi_rw with bio_data_dir or
op_is_write, except for the few cases where a switch over the REQ_OP_
values makes more sense. Any check for READA is replaced with an
explicit check for REQ_RAHEAD. Also remove the READA alias for
REQ_RAHEAD.

Mikulas Patocka b9d8905e4a reiserfs: check kstrdup failure
Check out-of-memory failure of the kstrdup option. Note that the argument
"arg" may be NULL (in that case kstrup returns NULL), so out of memory
condition happened if arg was non-NULL and kstrdup returned NULL.

The patch also changes the call to replace_mount_options - if we didn't
pass any filesystem-specific options, we don't call replace_mount_options
(thus we don't erase existing reported options).

Note that to properly report options after remount, the reiserfs
filesystem should implement the show_options method. Without the
show_options method, options changed with remount replace existing
options.

Kirill A. Shutemov 09cbfeaf1a mm, fs: get rid of PAGE_CACHE_* and page_cache_{get,release} macros
PAGE_CACHE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN} macros were introduced *long* time
ago with promise that one day it will be possible to implement page
cache with bigger chunks than PAGE_SIZE.

This promise never materialized. And unlikely will.

We have many places where PAGE_CACHE_SIZE assumed to be equal to
PAGE_SIZE. And it's constant source of confusion on whether
PAGE_CACHE_* or PAGE_* constant should be used in a particular case,
especially on the border between fs and mm.

Global switching to PAGE_CACHE_SIZE != PAGE_SIZE would cause to much
breakage to be doable.

Let's stop pretending that pages in page cache are special. They are
not.

The changes are pretty straight-forward:

 - <foo> << (PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT - PAGE_SHIFT) -> <foo>;

 - <foo> >> (PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT - PAGE_SHIFT) -> <foo>;

 - PAGE_CACHE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN} -> PAGE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN};

 - page_cache_get() -> get_page();

 - page_cache_release() -> put_page();

This patch contains automated changes generated with coccinelle using
script below. For some reason, coccinelle doesn't patch header files.
I've called spatch for them manually.

The only adjustment after coccinelle is revert of changes to
PAGE_CAHCE_ALIGN definition: we are going to drop it later.

There are few places in the code where coccinelle didn't reach. I'll
fix them manually in a separate patch. Comments and documentation also
will be addressed with the separate patch.

Andreas Gruenbacher b8a7a3a667 posix_acl: Inode acl caching fixes
When get_acl() is called for an inode whose ACL is not cached yet, the
get_acl inode operation is called to fetch the ACL from the filesystem.
The inode operation is responsible for updating the cached acl with
set_cached_acl(). This is done without locking at the VFS level, so
another task can call set_cached_acl() or forget_cached_acl() before the
get_acl inode operation gets to calling set_cached_acl(), and then
get_acl's call to set_cached_acl() results in caching an outdate ACL.

Prevent this from happening by setting the cached ACL pointer to a
task-specific sentinel value before calling the get_acl inode operation.
Move the responsibility for updating the cached ACL from the get_acl
inode operations to get_acl(). There, only set the cached ACL if the
sentinel value hasn't changed.

The sentinel values are chosen to have odd values. Likewise, the value
of ACL_NOT_CACHED is odd. In contrast, ACL object pointers always have
an even value (ACLs are aligned in memory). This allows to distinguish
uncached ACLs values from ACL objects.

In addition, switch from guarding inode->i_acl and inode->i_default_acl
upates by the inode->i_lock spinlock to using xchg() and cmpxchg().

Filesystems that do not want ACLs returned from their get_acl inode
operations to be cached must call forget_cached_acl() to prevent the VFS
from doing so.

Vladimir Davydov 5d097056c9 kmemcg: account certain kmem allocations to memcg
Mark those kmem allocations that are known to be easily triggered from

 - cred
 - mm_struct
 - vm_area_struct and vm_region (nommu)

 - files_struct
 - fdtable and fdtable->full_fds_bits
 - dentry and external_name
 - inode for all filesystems. This is the most tedious part, because
   most filesystems overwrite the alloc_inode method.

The list is far from complete, so feel free to add more objects.
Nevertheless, it should be close to "account everything" approach and
keep most workloads within bounds. Malevolent users will be able to
breach the limit, but this was possible even with the former "account
everything" approach (simply because it did not account everything in
fact).

Linus Torvalds 33caf82acf Merge branch 'work.misc' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/viro/vfs
Pull misc vfs updates from Al Viro:
 "All kinds of stuff. That probably should've been 5 or 6 separate
  branches, but by the time I'd realized how large and mixed that bag
  had become it had been too close to -final to play with rebasing.

  Some fs/namei.c cleanups there, memdup_user_nul() introduction and
  switching open-coded instances, burying long-dead code, whack-a-mole
  of various kinds, several new helpers for ->llseek(), assorted
  cleanups and fixes from various people, etc.

  One piece probably deserves special mention - Neil's
  lookup_one_len_unlocked(). Similar to lookup_one_len(), but gets
  called without ->i_mutex and tries to avoid ever taking it. That, of
  course, means that it's not useful for any directory modifications,
  but things like getting inode attributes in nfds readdirplus are fine
  with that. I really should've asked for moratorium on lookup-related
  changes this cycle, but since I hadn't done that early enough... I
  *am* asking for that for the coming cycle, though - I'm going to try
  and get conversion of i_mutex to rwsem with ->lookup() done under lock
  taken shared.

  There will be a patch closer to the end of the window, along the lines
  of the one Linus had posted last May - mechanical conversion of
  ->i_mutex accesses to inode_lock()/inode_unlock()/inode_trylock()/
  inode_is_locked()/inode_lock_nested(). To quote Linus back then:

Andreas Gruenbacher 764a5c6b1f xattr handlers: Simplify list operation
Change the list operation to only return whether or not an attribute
should be listed. Copying the attribute names into the buffer is moved
to the callers.

Since the result only depends on the dentry and not on the attribute
name, we do not pass the attribute name to list operations.

Al Viro 6b2553918d replace ->follow_link() with new method that could stay in RCU mode
new method: ->get_link(); replacement of ->follow_link(). The differences
are:
	* inode and dentry are passed separately
	* might be called both in RCU and non-RCU mode;
the former is indicated by passing it a NULL dentry.
	* when called that way it isn't allowed to block
and should return ERR_PTR(-ECHILD) if it needs to be called
in non-RCU mode.

It's a flagday change - the old method is gone, all in-tree instances
converted. Conversion isn't hard; said that, so far very few instances
do not immediately bail out when called in RCU mode. That'll change
in the next commits.

Al Viro 21fc61c73c don't put symlink bodies in pagecache into highmem
kmap() in page_follow_link_light() needed to go - allowing to hold
an arbitrary number of kmaps for long is a great way to deadlocking
the system.

new helper (inode_nohighmem(inode)) needs to be used for pagecache
symlinks inodes; done for all in-tree cases. page_follow_link_light()

Andreas Gruenbacher 98e9cb5711 vfs: Distinguish between full xattr names and proper prefixes
Add an additional "name" field to struct xattr_handler. When the name
is set, the handler matches attributes with exactly that name. When the
prefix is set instead, the handler matches attributes with the given
prefix and with a non-empty suffix.

This patch should avoid bugs like the one fixed in commit c361016a in

Andreas Gruenbacher d9a82a0403 xattr handlers: Pass handler to operations instead of flags
The xattr_handler operations are currently all passed a file system
specific flags value which the operations can use to disambiguate between
different handlers; some file systems use that to distinguish the xattr
namespace, for example. In some oprations, it would be useful to also have
access to the handler prefix. To allow that, pass a pointer to the handler
to operations instead of the flags value alone.

Kees Cook a068acf2ee fs: create and use seq_show_option for escaping
Many file systems that implement the show_options hook fail to correctly
escape their output which could lead to unescaped characters (e.g. new
lines) leaking into /proc/mounts and /proc/[pid]/mountinfo files. This
could lead to confusion, spoofed entries (resulting in things like
systemd issuing false d-bus "mount" notifications), and who knows what
else. This looks like it would only be the root user stepping on
themselves, but it's possible weird things could happen in containers or
in other situations with delegated mount privileges.

Here's an example using overlay with setuid fusermount trusting the
contents of /proc/mounts (via the /etc/mtab symlink). Imagine the use
of "sudo" is something more sneaky:

  $ BASE="ovl"
  $ MNT="$BASE/mnt"
  $ LOW="$BASE/lower"
  $ UP="$BASE/upper"
  $ WORK="$BASE/work/ 0 0
  none /proc fuse.pwn user_id=1000"
  $ mkdir -p "$LOW" "$UP" "$WORK"
  $ sudo mount -t overlay -o "lowerdir=$LOW,upperdir=$UP,workdir=$WORK" none /mnt
  $ cat /proc/mounts
  none /root/ovl/mnt overlay rw,relatime,lowerdir=ovl/lower,upperdir=ovl/upper,workdir=ovl/work/ 0 0
  none /proc fuse.pwn user_id=1000 0 0
  $ fusermount -u /proc
  $ cat /proc/mounts
  cat: /proc/mounts: No such file or directory

This fixes the problem by adding new seq_show_option and
seq_show_option_n helpers, and updating the vulnerable show_option
handlers to use them as needed. Some, like SELinux, need to be open
coded due to unusual existing escape mechanisms.

Tejun Heo 66114cad64 writeback: separate out include/linux/backing-dev-defs.h
With the planned cgroup writeback support, backing-dev related
declarations will be more widely used across block and cgroup;
unfortunately, including backing-dev.h from include/linux/blkdev.h
makes cyclic include dependency quite likely.

This patch separates out backing-dev-defs.h which only has the
essential definitions and updates blkdev.h to include it. c files
which need access to more backing-dev details now include
backing-dev.h directly. This takes backing-dev.h off the common
include dependency chain making it a lot easier to use it across block
and cgroup.

David Howells e36cb0b89c VFS: (Scripted) Convert S_ISLNK/DIR/REG(dentry->d_inode) to d_is_*(dentry)
Convert the following where appropriate:

 (1) S_ISLNK(dentry->d_inode) to d_is_symlink(dentry).

 (2) S_ISREG(dentry->d_inode) to d_is_reg(dentry).

 (3) S_ISDIR(dentry->d_inode) to d_is_dir(dentry). This is actually more
     complicated than it appears as some calls should be converted to
     d_can_lookup() instead. The difference is whether the directory in
     question is a real dir with a ->lookup op or whether it's a fake dir with
     a ->d_automount op.

In some circumstances, we can subsume checks for dentry->d_inode not being
NULL into this, provided we the code isn't in a filesystem that expects
d_inode to be NULL if the dirent really *is* negative (ie. if we're going to
use d_inode() rather than d_backing_inode() to get the inode pointer).

Note that the dentry type field may be set to something other than
DCACHE_MISS_TYPE when d_inode is NULL in the case of unionmount, where the VFS
manages the fall-through from a negative dentry to a lower layer. In such a
case, the dentry type of the negative union dentry is set to the same as the
type of the lower dentry.

However, if you know d_inode is not NULL at the call site, then you can use
the d_is_xxx() functions even in a filesystem.

There is one further complication: a 0,0 chardev dentry may be labelled
DCACHE_WHITEOUT_TYPE rather than DCACHE_SPECIAL_TYPE. Strictly, this was
intended for special directory entry types that don't have attached inodes.

The following perl+coccinelle script was used:

use strict;

Jan Kara 01777836c8 reiserfs: Fix use after free in journal teardown
If do_journal_release() races with do_journal_end() which requeues
delayed works for transaction flushing, we can leave work items for
flushing outstanding transactions queued while freeing them. That
results in use after free and possible crash in run_timers_softirq().

Fix the problem by not requeueing works if superblock is being shut down
(MS_ACTIVE not set) and using cancel_delayed_work_sync() in
do_journal_release().

Jeff Mahoney 27d0e5bc85 reiserfs: fix corruption introduced by balance_leaf refactor
Commits f1f007c308 (reiserfs: balance_leaf refactor, pull out
balance_leaf_insert_left) and cf22df182b (reiserfs: balance_leaf
refactor, pull out balance_leaf_paste_left) missed that the `body'
pointer was getting repositioned. Subsequent users of the pointer
would expect it to be repositioned, and as a result, parts of the
tree would get overwritten. The most common observed corruption
is indirect block pointers being overwritten.

Since the body value isn't actually used anymore in the called routines,
we can pass back the offset it should be shifted. We constify the body
and ih pointers in the balance_leaf as a mostly-free preventative measure.

Jeff Mahoney 22e7478ddb reiserfs: call truncate_setsize under tailpack mutex
Prior to commit 0e4f6a791b (Fix reiserfs_file_release()), reiserfs
truncates serialized on i_mutex. They mostly still do, with the exception
of reiserfs_file_release. That blocks out other writers via the tailpack
mutex and the inode openers counter adjusted in reiserfs_file_open.

However, NFS will call reiserfs_setattr without having called ->open, so
we end up with a race when nfs is calling ->setattr while another
process is releasing the file. Ultimately, it triggers the
BUG_ON(inode->i_size != new_file_size) check in maybe_indirect_to_direct.

The solution is to pull the lock into reiserfs_setattr to encompass the
truncate_setsize call as well.

Jeff Mahoney 4cf5f7addf reiserfs: cleanup, rename key and item accessors to more friendly names
This patch does a quick search and replace:
B_N_PITEM_HEAD() -> item_head()
B_N_PDELIM_KEY() -> internal_key()
B_N_PKEY() -> leaf_key()
B_N_PITEM() -> item_body()

And the item_head version:
B_I_PITEM() -> ih_item_body()
I_ENTRY_COUNT() -> ih_entry_count()

And the treepath variants:
get_ih() -> tp_item_head()
PATH_PITEM_HEAD() -> tp_item_head()
get_item() -> tp_item_body()

... which makes the code much easier on the eyes.

I've also removed a few unused macros.

Johannes Weiner 91b0abe36a mm + fs: store shadow entries in page cache
Reclaim will be leaving shadow entries in the page cache radix tree upon
evicting the real page. As those pages are found from the LRU, an
iput() can lead to the inode being freed concurrently. At this point,
reclaim must no longer install shadow pages because the inode freeing
code needs to ensure the page tree is really empty.

Add an address_space flag, AS_EXITING, that the inode freeing code sets
under the tree lock before doing the final truncate. Reclaim will check
for this flag before installing shadow pages.
