Rename some traceevent APIs for consistency:
tep_pid_is_registered() to tep_is_pid_registered()
tep_file_bigendian() to tep_is_file_bigendian()
to make the names and return values consistent with other tep_is_... APIs
tep_data_lat_fmt() to tep_data_latency_format()
to make the name more descriptive
tep_host_bigendian() to tep_is_bigendian()
tep_set_host_bigendian() to tep_set_local_bigendian()
tep_is_host_bigendian() to tep_is_local_bigendian()
"host" can be confused with VMs, and "local" is about the local
machine. All tep_is_..._bigendian(struct tep_handle *tep) APIs return
the saved data in the tep handle, while tep_is_bigendian() returns
the running machine's endianness.
All tep_is_... functions are modified to return bool value, instead of int.

In order to make libtraceevent into a proper library, its API should be
straightforward. The __tep_data2host*() functions are going to no longer
be available as a libtraceevent API, tep_read_number() should be used
instead. This patch replaces __tep_data2host*() usage with
tep_read_number() in perf.

As traceevent is going to be transferred into a proper library,
its local data should be protected from the library users.
This patch encapsulates struct tep_handler into a local header,
not visible outside of the library. It implements also a bunch
of new APIs, which library users can use to access tep_handler members.

Andi reported a performance drop in single threaded perf tools such as
'perf script' due to the growing number of locks being put in place to
allow for multithreaded tools, so wrap the POSIX threads rwlock routines
with the names used for such kinds of locks in the Linux kernel and then
allow for tools to ask for those locks to be used or not.
I.e. a tool may have a multithreaded phase and then switch to single
threaded, like the upcoming patches for the synthesizing of
PERF_RECORD_{FORK,MMAP,etc} for pre-existing processes to then switch to
single threaded mode in 'perf top'.
The init routines will not be conditional, this way starting as single
threaded to then move to multi threaded mode should be possible.

Current trace info data lacks the saved cmdline mapping which is needed
for pevent to find out the comm of a task. Add this and bump up the
version number so that perf can determine its presence when reading.
This is mostly corresponding to trace.dat file version 6, but still
lacks 4 byte of number of cpus, and 10 bytes of type string - and I
think we don't need those anyway.

If pevent allocation in read_trace_init() fails, trace_report() will
return -1 and *ppevent is set to NULL. Its callers should check this
case and handle it properly.
This is also a preparation for the removal of *die() calls.

The pevent thing is per perf.data file, so I made it stop being static
and become a perf_session member, so tools processing perf.data files
use perf_session and _there_ we read the trace events description into
session->pevent and then change everywhere to stop using that single
global pevent variable and use the per session one.
Note that it _doesn't_ fall backs to trace__event_id, as we're not
interested at all in what is present in the
/sys/kernel/debug/tracing/events in the workstation doing the analysis,
just in what is in the perf.data file.
This patch also introduces perf_session__set_tracepoints_handlers that
is the perf perf.data/session way to associate handlers to tracepoint
events by resolving their IDs using the events descriptions stored in a
perf.data file. Make 'perf sched' use it.

As libtraceevent will be a library, having struct record is far
too generic of a name to use. Renaming it to be consistent with the
rest of the functions will be a better long term solution.

The event parsing code in perf was originally copied from trace-cmd
but never was kept up-to-date with the changes that was done there.
The trace-cmd libtraceevent.a code is much more mature than what is
currently in perf.
This updates the code to use wrappers to handle the calls to the
new event parsing code. The new code requires a handle to be pass
around, which removes the global event variables and allows
more than one event structure to be read from different files
(and different machines).
But perf still has the old global events and the code throughout
perf does not yet have a nice way to pass around a handle.
A global 'pevent' has been made for perf and the old calls have
been created as wrappers to the new event parsing code that uses
the global pevent.
With this change, perf can later incorporate the pevent handle into
the perf structures and allow more than one file to be read and
compared, that contains different events.

There are unnecessary #include <ctype.h> out there, and they might cause
a nasty build failure in some environment. As we already have most of
ctype macros in util.h, just get rid of them.
A few of exceptions are util/symbol.c which needs isupper() macro util.h
doesn't provide and perl scripting support code which includes ctype.h
internally.

This is a small fix for a problem affecting live-mode, introduced
recently:
root@tropicana:~# perf trace rwtop
perf trace started with Perl
script /root/libexec/perf-core/scripts/perl/rwtop.pl
Fatal: did not read header event
commit d00a47cce5 added a skip()
function to skip over e.g. header_page, but this doesn't work for
live mode. This patch re-implements skip() to use read() instead of
lseek() to fix that.

Currently, perf 'live mode' writes build-ids at the end of the
session, which isn't actually useful for processing live mode events.
What would be better would be to have the build-ids sent before any of
the samples that reference them, which can be done by processing the
event stream and retrieving the build-ids on the first hit. Doing
that in perf-record itself, however, is off-limits.
This patch introduces perf-inject, which does the same job while
leaving perf-record untouched. Normal mode perf still records the
build-ids at the end of the session as it should, but for live mode,
perf-inject can be injected in between the record and report steps
e.g.:
perf record -o - ./hackbench 10 | perf inject -v -b | perf report -v -i -
perf-inject reads a perf-record event stream and repipes it to stdout.
At any point the processing code can inject other events into the
event stream - in this case build-ids (-b option) are read and
injected as needed into the event stream.
Build-ids are just the first user of perf-inject - potentially
anything that needs userspace processing to augment the trace stream
with additional information could make use of this facility.

commit e9e94e3bd8
"perf trace: Ignore "overwrite" field if present in
/events/header_page" makes perf trace launching spurious warnings
about unexpected tokens read:
Warning: Error: expected type 6 but read 4
This change tries to handle the overcommit field in the header_page
file whenever this field is present or not.
The problem is that if this field is not present, we try to find it
and give up in the middle of the line when we realize we are actually
dealing with another field, which is the "data" one. And this failure
abandons the file pointer in the middle of the "data" description
line:
field: u64 timestamp; offset:0; size:8; signed:0;
field: local_t commit; offset:8; size:8; signed:1;
field: char data; offset:16; size:4080; signed:1;
^^^
Here
What happens next is that we want to read this line to parse the data
field, but we fail because the pointer is not in the beginning of the
line.
We could probably fix that by rewinding the pointer. But in fact we
don't care much about these headers that only concern the ftrace
ring-buffer. We don't use them from perf.
Just skip this part of perf.data, but don't remove it from recording
to stay compatible with olders perf.data

Bypasses the tracing_data perf header code and replaces it with
a synthesized event and processing function that accomplishes
the same thing, used when reading/writing perf data to/from a
pipe.
The tracing data is pretty large, and this patch doesn't attempt
to break it down into component events. The tracing_data event
itself doesn't actually contain the tracing data, rather it
arranges for the event processing code to skip over it after
it's read, using the skip return value added to the event
processing loop in a previous patch.

Open perf data file with O_LARGEFILE flag since its size is
easily larger that 2G.

[ perf record: Woken up 0 times to write data ]
[ perf record: Captured and wrote 3142.147 MB perf.data
(~137282513 samples) ]

"len" is aligned to 64. So, it tries to write the out of
long_name buffer.
So, this use "zero_buf" to write aligned area.
- util/trace-event-read.c

It better propagate errors, also if we do a simple:
[root@doppio linux-2.6-tip]# perf record -R -a -f sleep 3s ;
perf trace [ perf record: Woken up 1 times to write data ]
[ perf record: Captured and wrote 0.182 MB perf.data (~7972 samples) ]
Fatal: not an trace data file
[root@doppio linux-2.6-tip]#
That is what is expected, right? I.e. as we didn't specify any
tracepoint event via -e, it should gracefully bail out and not
SEGFAULT.
