FUJITA Tomonori dfa7c4d869 parport_pc: set properly the dma_mask for parport_pc device
parport_pc_probe_port() creates the own 'parport_pc' device if the
device argument is NULL. Then parport_pc_probe_port() doesn't
initialize the dma_mask and coherent_dma_mask of the device and calls
dma_alloc_coherent with it. dma_alloc_coherent fails because
dma_alloc_coherent() doesn't accept the uninitialized dma_mask:

http://lkml.org/lkml/2009/6/16/150

Long ago, X86_32 and X86_64 had the own dma_alloc_coherent
implementations; X86_32 accepted a device having dma_mask that is not
initialized however X86_64 didn't. When we merged them, we chose to
prohibit a device having dma_mask that is not initialized. I think
that it's good to require drivers to set up dma_mask (and
coherent_dma_mask) properly if the drivers want DMA.

Jens Rottmann e2434dc1c1 parport_pc: after superio probing restore original register values
CONFIG_PARPORT_PC_SUPERIO probes for various superio chips by writing
byte sequences to a set of different potential I/O ranges. But the
probed ranges are not exclusive to parallel ports. Some of our boards
just happen to have a watchdog in one of them. Took us almost a week
to figure out why some distros reboot without warning after running
flawlessly for 3 hours. For exactly 170 = 0xAA minutes, that is ...

Fixed by restoring original values after probing. Also fixed too small
request_region() in detect_and_report_it87().

Greg Kroah-Hartman 61616115d7 parport: remove driver_data direct access of struct device
In the near future, the driver core is going to not allow direct access
to the driver_data pointer in struct device. Instead, the functions
dev_get_drvdata() and dev_set_drvdata() should be used. These functions
have been around since the beginning, so are backwards compatible with
all older kernel versions.

Philippe De Muyter 50db9d8e4c parport: netmos 9845 & 9855 1P4S fixes
netmos serial/parallel adapters come in different flavour differing only
by the number of parallel and serial ports, which are encoded in the
subdevice ID.

Last fix of Christian Pellegrin for 9855 2P2S broke support for 9855 1P4S,
and works only by side-effect for the first parallel port of a 2P2S, as
this first parallel port is found by reading the second addr entry of
(struct parport_pc_pci) cards[netmos_9855], which is not initialized, and
hence has value 0, which happens to be the BAR of the first parallel port.

netmos_9xx5_combo entry in (struct parport_pc_pci) cards[], which is used
for a 9845 1P4S must also be fixed for the parallel port support when
there are 4 serial ports because this entry currently gives 2 as BAR index
for the parallel port. Actually, in this case, BAR 2 is the 3rd serial
port while the parallel port is at BAR 4.

I fixed 9845 1P4S and 9855 1P4S support, while preserving 9855 2P2S support,

- by creating a netmos_9855_2p entry and using it for 9855 boards with 2
  parallel ports : 9855 2P2S and 9855 2P0S boards,

- and by allowing netmos_parallel_init to change not only the number of
  parallel ports (0 or 1), but making it also change the BAR index of the
  parallel port when the serial ports are before the parallel port.

PS: the netmos_9855_2p entry in (struct pciserial_board)
pci_parport_serial_boards[] is needed because netmos_parallel_init has no
clean way to replace FL_BASE2 by FL_BASE4 in the description of the serial
ports in function of the number of parallel ports on the card.

Tested with 9845 1P4S, 9855 1P4S and 9855 2P2S boards.

Michael Buesch f59abb161c parport: ieee1284: use del_timer_sync() in parport_wait_event()
Use del_timer_sync() instead of del_timer() to make sure the timer won't
be running when we return from parport_wait_event(), because this would
crash due to destruction of timer_list.

This is untested and just based on a code review. Just think about the
following sequence of events:

- add_timer()

- down_interruptible() is interrupted by a signal.

- we enter the timer callback handler on another CPU.

- del_timer(), but the timer callback is still running.

- eturn from parport_wait_even, which destroys the automatic variable
  "timer" while the callback is running on another CPU.

Takashi Iwai 36be47d6d8 parport_serial: fix array overflow
The netmos_9xx5_combo type assumes that PCI SSID provides always the
correct value for the number of parallel and serial ports, but there are
indeed broken devices with wrong numbers, which may result in Oops.

This patch simply adds the check of the array range.

Niels de Vos e7c310c36e parport_pc: it887x fix
The IO port range requested by parport_pc.c:sio_ite_8872_probe is too small.
The IO-ports of ttyS1 (0x2f8) will be missconfigured by the ITE-chip. The ITE
starts looking for the chip a 0x2a0. An IO-portrange of 32 will not overwrite
the ports of ttyS1. Therefore register 0x60 should be written with

Jean Delvare a7d801afc3 legacy PC parports support parport->dev
Give legacy parallel ports a platform device in the device tree.

This is a quick and dirty implementation; it doesn't actually convert the

David Brownell c15a3837d2 parport->dev driver model support
Currently a parport_driver can't get a handle on the device node for the
underlying parport (PNPACPI, PCI, etc). That prevents correct placement of
sysfs child nodes, which can affect things like power management.

This patch adds a field to "struct parport" pointing to that device node, and
updates non-legacy port drivers to initialize that device pointer. That field
replaces the analagous PCI-only support in parport_pc.

Eric W. Biederman 0b4d414714 [PATCH] sysctl: remove insert_at_head from register_sysctl
The semantic effect of insert_at_head is that it would allow new registered
sysctl entries to override existing sysctl entries of the same name. Which is
pain for caching and the proc interface never implemented.

I have done an audit and discovered that none of the current users of
register_sysctl care as (excpet for directories) they do not register
duplicate sysctl entries.

So this patch simply removes the support for overriding existing entries in
the sys_sysctl interface since no one uses it or cares and it makes future
enhancments harder.

Tim Schmielau cd354f1ae7 [PATCH] remove many unneeded #includes of sched.h
After Al Viro (finally) succeeded in removing the sched.h #include in module.h
recently, it makes sense again to remove other superfluous sched.h includes.
There are quite a lot of files which include it but don't actually need
anything defined in there. Presumably these includes were once needed for
macros that used to live in sched.h, but moved to other header files in the
course of cleaning it up.

To ease the pain, this time I did not fiddle with any header files and only
removed #includes from .c-files, which tend to cause less trouble.

Compile tested against 2.6.20-rc2 and 2.6.20-rc2-mm2 (with offsets) on alpha,
arm, i386, ia64, mips, powerpc, and x86_64 with allnoconfig, defconfig,
allmodconfig, and allyesconfig as well as a few randconfigs on x86_64 and all
configs in arch/arm/configs on arm. I also checked that no new warnings were
introduced by the patch (actually, some warnings are removed that were emitted
by unnecessarily included header files).

Al Viro 2850bc2737 [PATCH] m68k pt_regs fixes
m68k_handle_int() split in two functions: __m68k_handle_int() takes
pt_regs * and does set_irq_regs(); m68k_handle_int() doesn't get pt_regs
*.

Places where we used to call m68k_handle_int() recursively with the same
pt_regs have simply lost the second argument, the rest is switched to
__m68k_handle_int().

The rest of patch is just dropping pt_regs * where needed.

David Howells 7d12e780e0 IRQ: Maintain regs pointer globally rather than passing to IRQ handlers
Maintain a per-CPU global "struct pt_regs *" variable which can be used instead
of passing regs around manually through all ~1800 interrupt handlers in the
Linux kernel.

The regs pointer is used in few places, but it potentially costs both stack
space and code to pass it around. On the FRV arch, removing the regs parameter
from all the genirq function results in a 20% speed up of the IRQ exit path
(ie: from leaving timer_interrupt() to leaving do_IRQ()).

Where appropriate, an arch may override the generic storage facility and do
something different with the variable. On FRV, for instance, the address is
maintained in GR28 at all times inside the kernel as part of general exception
handling.

Having looked over the code, it appears that the parameter may be handed down
through up to twenty or so layers of functions. Consider a USB character
device attached to a USB hub, attached to a USB controller that posts its
interrupts through a cascaded auxiliary interrupt controller. A character
device driver may want to pass regs to the sysrq handler through the input
layer which adds another few layers of parameter passing.

I've build this code with allyesconfig for x86_64 and i386. I've runtested the
main part of the code on FRV and i386, though I can't test most of the drivers.
I've also done partial conversion for powerpc and MIPS - these at least compile
with minimal configurations.

This will affect all archs. Mostly the changes should be relatively easy.
Take do_IRQ(), store the regs pointer at the beginning, saving the old one:

	struct pt_regs *old_regs = set_irq_regs(regs);

And put the old one back at the end:

	set_irq_regs(old_regs);

Don't pass regs through to generic_handle_irq() or __do_IRQ().

In timer_interrupt(), this sort of change will be necessary:

	-	update_process_times(user_mode(regs));
	-	profile_tick(CPU_PROFILING, regs);
	+	update_process_times(user_mode(get_irq_regs()));
	+	profile_tick(CPU_PROFILING);

I'd like to move update_process_times()'s use of get_irq_regs() into itself,
except that i386, alone of the archs, uses something other than user_mode().

Some notes on the interrupt handling in the drivers:

 (*) input_dev() is now gone entirely. The regs pointer is no longer stored in
     the input_dev struct.

 (*) finish_unlinks() in drivers/usb/host/ohci-q.c needs checking. It does
     something different depending on whether it's been supplied with a regs
     pointer or not.

 (*) Various IRQ handler function pointers have been moved to type
     irq_handler_t.

Olaf Hering 873ef76bdc [PATCH] restore parport_pc probing on powermac
The last change for partport_pc did fix the common case for all PowerMacs,
but it broke the case for PCI multiport IO cards. In fact, the config
option CONFIG_PARPORT_PC_SUPERIO=y lead to a hard crash when cups probed
the parport driver. It enables the winbond and smsc probing.

Remove the PARPORT_BASE check again, parport_pc_find_nonpci_ports() will
take care of it. All powerpc configs should have
CONFIG_PARPORT_PC_SUPERIO=n, the code did not find anything on the chrp
boards we tested it on.

Tested on a G4/466 with a PCI card:

Olaf Hering 30cbc22217 [PATCH] update legacy io handling for pmac
ppc can boot one single binary on prep, chrp and pmac boards. ppc64 can
boot one single binary on pseries and G5 boards. pmac has no legacy io,
probing for PC style legacy hardware (or accessing the legacy io area
regulary) may lead to a hard crash:

* add check for parport_pc, exit on pmac. 32bit chrp has no
  ->check_legacy_ioport, the probe is always called. 64bit chrp has
  check_legacy_ioport, check for a "parallel" node

* add check for isapnp, only PReP boards may have real ISA slots. 32bit
  PReP will have no ->check_legacy_ioport, the probe is always called.

* update code in i8042_platform_init. Run ->check_legacy_ioport first,
  always call request_region. No functional change. Remove whitespace
  before i8042_reset init.

Russell King 7a171cdcb6 [SERIAL] Fix two bugs in parport_serial
Steinar H. Gunderson reported:

  - For some reason, it detects the 9845 as a 9735 -- it appears this is
    simply related to the ordering in parport_serial_pci_tbl[]. If we move
    the 9845 up above the 9735, it prints out 9710:9845, but no change in
    behaviour. (We didn't find out why this was the case; we left it alone
    since it didn't affect our problem.)
  - The card has no parallel port (at least no physical ones), yet it reports
    (via its subsystem ID of 0x0014) one parallel port and four serial ports.
    The probe for the parallel port fails, and the driver just aborts. Thus,
    it doesn't find the serial ports.

Fix the debugging code to use dev_dbg, but don't bother displaying the
PCI ID of the detected board (that's accessible via other means.)

Also, arrange for parport_register() to return 0 even if it finds no
ports.

Dominik Brodowski f8cfa618dc [PATCH] pcmcia: unify attach, EVENT_CARD_INSERTION handlers into one probe callback
Unify the EVENT_CARD_INSERTION and "attach" callbacks to one unified
probe() callback. As all in-kernel drivers are changed to this new
callback, there will be no temporary backwards-compatibility. Inside a
probe() function, each driver _must_ set struct pcmcia_device
*p_dev->instance and instance->handle correctly.

With these patches, the basic driver interface for 16-bit PCMCIA drivers
now has the classic four callbacks known also from other buses:

        int (*probe)            (struct pcmcia_device *dev);
        void (*remove)          (struct pcmcia_device *dev);

        int (*suspend)          (struct pcmcia_device *dev);
        int (*resume)           (struct pcmcia_device *dev);

Greg Kroah-Hartman 7586585897 [PATCH] PCI: clean up dynamic pci id logic
The dynamic pci id logic has been bothering me for a while, and now that
I started to look into how to move some of this to the driver core, I
thought it was time to clean it all up.

It ends up making the code smaller, and easier to follow, and fixes a
few bugs at the same time (dynamic ids were not being matched
everywhere, and so could be missed on some call paths for new devices,
semaphore not needed to be grabbed when adding a new id and calling the
driver core, etc.)

I also renamed the function pci_match_device() to pci_match_id() as
that's what it really does.

Martin Schitter 44e58a6a0b [PATCH] parport: NetMos nm9855 fix
kernel 2.6.12-rc2 adopted some code by Bjorn Helgaas supporting NetMos combo
controller cards. this implementation doesn't work for nm9855 based cards!

there are two reasons:

a) the module 'parport_pc' doesn't want to give the resonsibility for
   the netmos_9855 to 'parport_serial' and can not handle the serial lines
   -- trivial to fix...

   http://lists.infradead.org/pipermail/linux-parport/2005-February/000250.html
   http://lkml.org/lkml/2005/3/24/199 b) the support for the nm9855 in

   'parport_serial' still doesn't work because of wrong assumptions about
   the relevant BARs port address layout for this chip:

	 0000:00:09.0 Communication controller:
         	      NetMos Technology PCI 9855
         	      Multi-I/O Controller (rev 01)
	 	      (= 9710:9855)
         Subsystem: LSI Logic / Symbios Logic 1P4S (= 1000:0014)
  	 Flags: medium devsel, IRQ 177
	 I/O ports at a800 [size=8]  (= parport)

Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history,
even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git
archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about
3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early
git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good
infrastructure for it.

Let it rip!
