On some Cherry Trail systems the GPU ACPI fwnode has power-resources which
point to the PMIC, which is connected over a LPSS I2C controller.
We add a device-link to make sure that the I2C controller is resumed before
the GPU is. But the pci-core changes the power-state of PCI devices from
D3 to D0 at noirq time (to restore the PCI config registers) and before
this commit we were bringing up the I2C controllers from a resume_early
handler which runs later. More specifically the pm-core will first run
all resume_noirq handlers in order and then all resume_early handlers.
So we must not only make sure that the handlers are run in the right order,
but also that the resume of the I2C controller is done at noirq time.
The behavior before this commit, resuming the I2C controller from a
resume_early handler leads to the following errors:
i2c_designware 808622C1:06: controller timed out
ACPI Error: AE_ERROR, Returned by Handler for [UserDefinedRegion]
ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed \_SB.P18W._ON, AE_ERROR
video LNXVIDEO:00: Failed to change power state to D0
This commit changes the acpi_lpss.c code to resume the BYT/CHT I2C
controllers at resume_noirq time fixing this.

On some Bay Trail systems the GPU ACPI fwnode has power-resources which
point to the PMIC, which is connected over the LPSS I2C5 controller.
This one was quite nasty to debug, unlike on CHT where the same problem
leads to errors like these:
i2c_designware 808622C1:06: controller timed out
ACPI Error: AE_ERROR, Returned by Handler for [UserDefinedRegion]
ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed \_SB.P18W._ON, AE_ERROR
video LNXVIDEO:00: Failed to change power state to D0
On BYT the read-modify-write done by drivers/acpi/pmic/intel_pmic_xpower.c
on the AXP288 PMIC register to change the power-resource state *seems* to
succeed.
But in reality, because the I2C controller has not been resumed yet, the
read silently fails and returns the wrong value, where as the write does
succeed, writing back the wrong value for all the other power-resources
in the same register, turning off a bunch of them. Which of course does
not end well.
This commit adds a RPM consumer link from the GPU (which has a LNXVIDEO
HID) to the BYT LPSS I2C5 controller, so that the I2C controller gets
resumed before the GPU is resumed and thus before we try to change the
power-resource.

On some Cherry Trail systems the GPU ACPI fwnode has power-resources which
point to the PMIC, which is connected over the LPSS I2C7 controller.
Due to probe ordering currently we resume the GPU and thus try to access
the ACPI power-resources before the I2C controller has been resumed. This
leads to the following errors:

On some Cherry Trail systems the GPU ACPI fwnode has power-resources which
point to the PMIC, which is connected over one of the LPSS I2C controllers.
To get the suspend/resume ordering correct for this we need to be able to
add device-links between the GPU and the I2c controller. The GPU is a PCI

lpss_iosf_enter_d3_state() checks if all hw-blocks using the DMA
controllers are in d3 before powering down the DMA controllers.
But on devices, where the I2C bus connected to the PMIC is shared by
the PUNIT, the controller for that bus will never reach d3 since it has
an effectively empty _PS3 method. Instead it appears to automatically
power-down during S0i3 and we never see it as being in d3.
This causes the DMA controllers to never be powered-down on these devices,
causing them to never reach S0i3. This commit uses the ACPI _SEM method
to detect if an I2C bus is shared with the PUNIT and if it is, it removes
it from the mask of devices which lpss_iosf_enter_d3_state() checks for.
This fixes these devices never reaching any S0ix states.

Bay and Cherry Trail DSTDs represent a different set of devices depending
on which OS the device think it is booting. One set of decices for Windows
and another set of devices for Android which targets the Android-x86 Linux
kernel fork (which e.g. used to have its own display driver instead of
using the i915 driver).
Which set of devices we are actually going to get is out of our control,
this is controlled by the ACPI OSID variable, which gets either set through
an EFI setup option, or sometimes is autodetected. So we need to support
both.

Commit 12864ff854 (ACPI / LPSS: Avoid PM quirks on suspend and resume
from hibernation) bypasses lpss quirks for S3 and S4, by setting a flag
for S3/S4 in acpi_lpss_suspend(), and check that flag in
acpi_lpss_resume().
But this overlooks the boot case where acpi_lpss_resume() may get called
without a corresponding acpi_lpss_suspend() having been called.
Thus force setting the flag during boot.

Calling dmi_check_system() early only works on X86. Other
architectures initialize the DMI subsystem later so it's not
ready yet when ACPI itself gets initialized.
In the best case it results in a useless call to a function which
will do nothing. But depending on the dmi implementation, it could
also result in warnings. Best is to not call the function when it
can't work and isn't needed.
Additionally, if anyone ever needs to add non-x86 quirks, it would
surprisingly not work, so document the limitation to avoid confusion.

Merge tag 'arm64-upstream' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arm64/linux
Pull arm64 updates from Will Deacon:
"A bunch of good stuff in here. Worth noting is that we've pulled in
the x86/mm branch from -tip so that we can make use of the core
ioremap changes which allow us to put down huge mappings in the
vmalloc area without screwing up the TLB. Much of the positive
diffstat is because of the rseq selftest for arm64.
Summary:
- Wire up support for qspinlock, replacing our trusty ticket lock
code
- Add an IPI to flush_icache_range() to ensure that stale
instructions fetched into the pipeline are discarded along with the
I-cache lines
- Support for the GCC "stackleak" plugin
- Support for restartable sequences, plus an arm64 port for the
selftest
- Kexec/kdump support on systems booting with ACPI
- Rewrite of our syscall entry code in C, which allows us to zero the
GPRs on entry from userspace
- Support for chained PMU counters, allowing 64-bit event counters to
be constructed on current CPUs
- Ensure scheduler topology information is kept up-to-date with CPU
hotplug events
- Re-enable support for huge vmalloc/IO mappings now that the core
code has the correct hooks to use break-before-make sequences
- Miscellaneous, non-critical fixes and cleanups"

Prior to this commit the CRC PMOP handler only supported the X285 and V18X
PMOP fields. Leading to errors like these on device using the VBUS field:
[ 765.766489] ACPI Error: AE_BAD_PARAMETER, Returned by Handler for [UserDefinedRegion] (20180531/evregion-266)
[ 765.766526] ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed \_SB.I2C1.BATC._BST, AE_BAD_PARAMETER (20180531/psparse-516)
[ 765.766586] ACPI Error: AE_BAD_PARAMETER, Evaluating _BST (20180531/battery-577)
This commit adds support for all known fields to the CRC PMOP OpRegion
handler, the name and register info in this commit comes from:

Commit fa85015c0d (ACPICA: Clear status of all events when entering
S5) made the sleep state entry code in ACPICA clear the status of all
ACPI events when entering S5 to fix a functional regression reported
against commit 18996f2db9 (ACPICA: Events: Stop unconditionally
clearing ACPI IRQs during suspend/resume). However, it is reported
now that the regression also affects system states other than S5 on
some systems and causes them to wake up from sleep prematurely.
For this reason, make the code in question clear the status of all
ACPI events when entering all sleep states (in addition to S5) to
avoid the premature wakeups (this may cause some wakeup events to
be missed in theory, but the likelihood of that is small and the
change here simply restores the previous behavior of the code).

Field elements listed in the init file used to be initialized after
the table load and before executing module-level code blocks. The
recent changes in module-level code mean that the table load becomes
a method execution. If fields are used within module-level code and
we are executing with -fi option, then these values are populated
after the table has finished loading. This commit changes the
initialization of objects listed in the init file so that field unit
values are populated during the table load.

Some devices have multiple I2cSerialBus resources and for things to work
an i2c-client must be instantiated for each, each with its own
i2c_device_id.
Normally we only instantiate an i2c-client for the first resource, using
the ACPI HID as id.
This commit adds a list of HIDs of devices, which need multiple i2c-clients
instantiated from a single fwnode, to acpi_device_enumeration_by_parent and
makes acpi_device_enumeration_by_parent return false for these devices so
that a platform device will be instantiated.
This allows the drivers/platform/x86/i2c-multi-instantiate.c driver, which
knows which i2c_device_id to use for each resource, to bind to the fwnode
and initiate an i2c-client for each resource.

Since commit 63347db0af "ACPI / scan: Use acpi_bus_get_status() to
initialize ACPI_TYPE_DEVICE devs" the status field of normal acpi_devices
gets set to 0 by acpi_bus_type_and_status() and filled with its actual
value later when acpi_add_single_object() calls acpi_bus_get_status().
This means that any acpi_match_device_ids() calls in between will always
fail with -ENOENT.
We already have a workaround for this, which temporary forces status to
ACPI_STA_DEFAULT in drivers/acpi/x86/utils.c: acpi_device_always_present()
and the next commit in this series adds another acpi_match_device_ids()
call between status being initialized as 0 and the acpi_bus_get_status()
call.
Rather then adding another workaround, this commit makes
acpi_bus_type_and_status() initialize status to ACPI_STA_DEFAULT, this is
safe to do as the only code looking at status between the initialization
and the acpi_bus_get_status() call is those acpi_match_device_ids() calls.
Note this does mean that we need to (re)set status to 0 in case the
acpi_bus_get_status() call fails.

Commit 2c4d6baf1b (ACPI / EC: Use ec_no_wakeup on more Thinkpad X1
Carbon 6th systems) changed the DMI table to match all systems where
DMI product family is "Thinkpad X1 Carbon 6th". However, the system I
have here has this string written differently (ThinkPad vs. Thinkpad)
which makes the match fail.
In addition to that, after BIOS upgrade Robin now has the same string
than my system has (perhaps newer BIOS has changed the string).
In any case add another DMI entry to acpi_ec_no_wakeup[] table hopefully
covering all the X1 Carbon 6th systems out there.

On some devices (with a buggy _BIX implementation) full_charge_capacity
always reports as 0. This means that our energy_full sysfs attribute will
also always be 0, which is not useful to export.
Worse we calculate our reported capacity on full_charge_capacity and if it
is 0 we always report 0. This causes userspace to immediately shutdown or
hibernate the laptop since it assumes that the battery is critically low.
This commit makes us not report energy_full[_design] or capacity on such
broken devices, avoiding the immediate shutdown / hibernate from userspace.

driver has failed to call dma_set_coherent_mask() *and* the bus code has
not initialised any default value.
We don't really want to encourage more drivers coercing dma_mask so
we'll continue to fix that up if necessary, but add a warning to help

IORT revision D allows PCI root complex nodes to specify a memory
address size limit equivalently to named components, to help describe
straightforward integrations which don't really warrant a full-blown
_DMA method. Now that our headers are up-to-date, plumb it in.
If both _DMA and an address size limit are present, we would always
expect the former to be a more specific subset of the latter (since it
makes little sense for a _DMA range to involve bits which IORT says
aren't wired up), thus we can save calculating an explicit intersection
of the two effective masks and simply use short-circuit logic instead.

For consistency, all three architectures that support ACPI now

it showed me the issue was introduced in 3.17 by commit 821d6f0359
(ACPI / sleep: Do not save NVS for new machines to accelerate S3). This
code only affects machines built starting as of 2012, but this Asus
1025C laptop was made in 2012 and apparently needs the NVS data to be
saved, otherwise the CPU's thermal state is not properly reported on
resume and the fan runs at full speed upon resume.
Here's a very simple way to check if such a machine is affected :
# cat /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/temp
55000
( now suspend, wait one second and resume )
# cat /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/temp
0
(and after ~15 seconds the fan starts to spin)
Let's apply the same quirk as commit cbc00c13 (ACPI: save NVS memory
for Lenovo G50-45) and reuse the function it provides. Note that this
commit was already backported to 4.9.x but not 4.4.x.

After commit 18996f2db9 (ACPICA: Events: Stop unconditionally
clearing ACPI IRQs during suspend/resume) the status of ACPI events
is not cleared any more when entering the ACPI S5 system state (power
off) which causes some systems to power up immediately after turing
off power in certain situations.
That is a functional regression, so address it by making the code
clear the status of all ACPI events again when entering S5 (for
system-wide suspend or hibernation the clearing of the status of all
events is not desirable, as it might cause the kernel to miss wakeup
events sometimes).

The notification of scrub completion happens within the scrub workqueue.
That can clearly race someone running scrub_show() and work_busy()
before the workqueue has a chance to flush the recently completed work.
Add a flag to reliably indicate the idle vs busy state. Without this
change applications using poll(2) to wait for scrub-completion may
falsely wakeup and read ARS as being busy even though the thread is

Currently, we use the ACPI processor ID only for the leaf/processor nodes
as the specification states it must match the value of the ACPI processor
ID field in the processor’s entry in the MADT.
However, if a PPTT structure represents a processors group, it
matches a processor container UID in the namespace and the
ACPI_PPTT_ACPI_PROCESSOR_ID_VALID flag indicates whether the
ACPI processor ID is valid.
Let's use UID whenever ACPI_PPTT_ACPI_PROCESSOR_ID_VALID is set to be
consistent instead of using table offset as it's currently done for
non-leaf nodes.

Because acpi_lid_initialize_state() is called on every system
resume and it triggers acpi_lid_notify_state() which invokes
acpi_pm_wakeup_event() for the lid device, the lid's wakeup count is
incremented even if the lid was not the source of the event that woke up
the system. That behavior confuses user space deamons using
wakeup_count to identify the potential system wakeup source. To avoid
the confusion, only trigger acpi_pm_wakeup_event() in the
acpi_button_notify() path and don't do that in the
acpi_lid_initialize_state() path.

Sometimes memory resource may be overlapping with
SystemMemory Operation Region by design, for example if the
memory region is used as a mailbox for communication with a
firmware in the system. One occasion of such mailboxes is
USB Type-C Connector System Software Interface (UCSI).
With regions like that, it is important that the driver is
able to map the memory with the requirements it has. For
example, the driver should be allowed to map the memory as
non-cached memory. However, if the operation region has been
accessed before the driver has mapped the memory, the memory
has been marked as write-back by the time the driver is
loaded. That means the driver will fail to map the memory
if it expects non-cached memory.
To work around the problem, introducing helper that the
drivers can use to temporarily deactivate (unmap)
SystemMemory Operation Regions that overlap with their
IO memory.

It is reported that commit a192aa923b (ACPI / LPSS: Consolidate
runtime PM and system sleep handling) introduced a system suspend
regression on some machines, but the only functional change made by
it was to cause the PM quirks in the LPSS to also be used during
system suspend and resume. While that should always work for
suspend-to-idle, it turns out to be problematic for S3
(suspend-to-RAM).
To address that issue restore the previous S3 suspend and resume
behavior of the LPSS to avoid applying PM quirks then.

"Apart from the core arm64 and perf changes, the Spectre v4 mitigation
touches the arm KVM code and the ACPI PPTT support touches drivers/
(acpi and cacheinfo). I should have the maintainers' acks in place.
Summary:
- Spectre v4 mitigation (Speculative Store Bypass Disable) support
for arm64 using SMC firmware call to set a hardware chicken bit
- ACPI PPTT (Processor Properties Topology Table) parsing support and
enable the feature for arm64
- Report signal frame size to user via auxv (AT_MINSIGSTKSZ). The
primary motivation is Scalable Vector Extensions which requires
more space on the signal frame than the currently defined
MINSIGSTKSZ
- ARM perf patches: allow building arm-cci as module, demote
dev_warn() to dev_dbg() in arm-ccn event_init(), miscellaneous
cleanups
- cmpwait() WFE optimisation to avoid some spurious wakeups
- L1_CACHE_BYTES reverted back to 64 (for performance reasons that
have to do with some network allocations) while keeping
ARCH_DMA_MINALIGN to 128. cache_line_size() returns the actual
hardware Cache Writeback Granule
- Turn LSE atomics on by default in Kconfig
- Kernel fault reporting tidying
- Some #include and miscellaneous cleanups"

The LPSS PWM device on on Bay Trail and Cherry Trail devices has a set
of private registers at offset 0x800, the current lpss_device_desc for
them already sets the LPSS_SAVE_CTX flag to have these saved/restored
over device-suspend, but the current lpss_device_desc was not setting
the prv_offset field, leading to the regular device registers getting
saved/restored instead.
This is causing the PWM controller to no longer work, resulting in a black
screen, after a suspend/resume on systems where the firmware clears the
APB clock and reset bits at offset 0x804.
This commit fixes this by properly setting prv_offset to 0x800 for
the PWM devices.

The Unload AML operator is no longer supported for the reasons below.
An AE_NOT_IMPLEMENTED exception is returned.
1) A correct implementation on at least some hosts may not be possible.
2) Other ACPI implementations do not correctly/fully support it.
3) It requires host device driver support which is not known to exist.
(To properly support namespace unload out from underneath.)
4) This AML operator has never been seen in the field.

This change alters the parser so that the table load does not abort
upon an error.
Notable changes:
If there is an error while parsing an element of the termlist, we
will skip parsing the current termlist element and continue parsing
to the next opcode in the termlist.
If we get an error while parsing the conditional of If/Else/While or
the device name of Scope, we will skip the body of the statement all
together and pop the parser_state.
If we get an error while parsing the base offset and length of an
operation region declaration, we will remove the operation region
from the namespace.

The "Clear Error Unit" may be smaller than the ECC unit size on some
devices. For example, poison may be tracked at 64-byte alignment even
though the ECC unit is larger. Unless / until the ACPI specification
provides a non-ambiguous way to communicate this property do not expose
this to userspace.
Software that had been using this property must already be prepared for
the case where the property is not provided on older kernels, so it is
safe to remove this attribute.

On platforms where the Low Power S0 Idle _DSM interface is used,
on wakeup from suspend-to-idle, when it is known that the ACPI SCI
has triggered while suspended, dispatch the EC GPE in order to catch
all EC events that may have triggered the wakeup before carrying out
the noirq phase of device resume.
That is needed to handle power button wakeup on some platforms where
the EC goes into a low-power mode during suspend-to-idle and while in
that mode it will discard events after a timeout. If that timeout is
shorter than the time it takes to complete the noirq resume of
devices, looking for EC events after the latter is too late.

Currently we request control of native PCIe hotplug unconditionally.
Native PCIe hotplug events are handled by the pciehp driver, and if it is

ACPI 6.2 adds a new table, which describes how processing units
are related to each other in tree like fashion. Caches are
also sprinkled throughout the tree and describe the properties
of the caches in relation to other caches and processing units.
Add the code to parse the cache hierarchy and report the total
number of levels of cache for a given core using
acpi_find_last_cache_level() as well as fill out the individual
cores cache information with cache_setup_acpi() once the
cpu_cacheinfo structure has been populated by the arch specific
code.
An additional patch later in the set adds the ability to report
peers in the topology using find_acpi_cpu_topology()
to report a unique ID for each processing unit at a given level
in the tree. These unique id's can then be used to match related
processing units which exist as threads, within a given
package, etc.

The callers of dev_pm_domain_attach() currently checks the returned error
code for -EPROBE_DEFER and needs to ignore other error codes. This is an
unnecessary limitation, which also leads to a rather strange behaviour in
the error path.
Address this limitation, by changing the return codes from
acpi_dev_pm_attach() and genpd_dev_pm_attach(). More precisely, let them
return 0, when no PM domain is needed for the device and then return 1, in
case the device was successfully attached to its PM domain. In this way,
dev_pm_domain_attach(), gets a better understanding of what happens in the
attach attempts and also allowing its caller to better act on real errors
codes.

As the acpi code disables interrupts in acpi_idle_enter_bm, and calls
code that grabs the acpi lock, it causes issues as the lock is currently
in RT a sleeping lock.
The lock was converted from a raw to a sleeping lock due to some
previous issues, and tests that showed it didn't seem to matter.
Unfortunately, it did matter for one of our boxes.
This patch converts the lock back to a raw lock. I've run this code on a
few of my own machines, one being my laptop that uses the acpi quite
extensively. I've been able to suspend and resume without issues.

Replace the faulty PCC status register polling code with a iopoll.h
macro to fix incorrect reporting of PCC check errors ("PCC check
channel failed").
There were potential codepaths where we could incorrectly return
PCC channel status as busy even without checking the PCC status
register once or not checking the status register before breaking
out of the polling loop. For example, if the thread polling PCC
status register was preempted and scheduled back after we have
crossed the deadline then we can report that the channel is busy
even without checking the status register.

With commit af3ec837b8 (ACPI / AC: Add a blacklist with PMIC ACPI HIDs
with a native charger driver) a blacklist was introduced to avoid using
the ACPI drivers for AC when a native PMIC driver was already present.
While this is in general a good idea (because of broken DSDT or proprietary
and undocumented ACPI opregions for the ACPI AC devices) there are some
Cherry Trail devices which use a separate charger controller despite the
AXP288 having a builtin charger.
The net effect of blacklisting the ACPI drivers is that on these devices

The Point of View mobii wintab p800w Bay Trail tablet comes with a Crystal
Cove PMIC, yet uses the LPSS PWM for backlight control, rather then the
Crystal Cove's PWM, so we need to call pwm_add_table() to add a
pwm_backlight mapping for the LPSS pwm despite there being an INT33FD
ACPI device present.
On all Bay Trail devices the _HRV object of the INT33FD ACPI device
will normally return 2, to indicate the Bay Trail variant of the CRC
PMIC is present, except on this tablet where _HRV is 0xffff. I guess this
is a hack to make the windows Crystal Cove PWM driver not bind.
Out of the 44 DSTDs with an INT33FD device in there which I have (from
different model devices) only the pov mobii wintab p800w uses 0xffff for
the HRV.
The byt_pwm_setup code calls acpi_dev_present to check for the presence
of a INT33FD ACPI device which indicates that a CRC PMIC is present and
if the INT33FD ACPI device is present then byt_pwm_setup will not add
a pwm_backlight mapping for the LPSS pwm, so that the CRC PWM will get
used instead.
acpi_dev_present has a hrv parameter, this commit make us pass 2 instead
of -1, so that things still match on normal tablets, but on this special
case with its _HRV of 0xffff, the check will now fail so that the
pwm_backlight mapping for the LPSS pwm gets added fixing backlight
brightness control on this device.

On some devices the "AC" interface ACPI AML code uses the exact same broken
logic which is causing the battery code to wrongly report discharging to
determine the "AC" state. Specifically the ACPI AML code is checking the
charging status bits of the charger-IC rather then the vbus present or
power-good status bits.
This makes our workaround for devices which wrongly report discharging when
plugged into AC while the charge is above the start charging threshold not
work on these devices.
This commit adds a battery_ac_is_broken flag and when that is set it skips
the power_supply_is_system_supplied() check in the workaround fixing this.
This flag gets set by a DMI quirk selected by systems where we know the AC
AML code is broken in this way *and* the rate_now value can be trusted.

On quite a few devices the battery code in the ACPI tables is buggy and
first checks the charging status bits of the charger-IC, and if those
report not charging it will report discharging, without looking at the
presence of AC power or at the battery dis(charge) current from the
fuel-gauge.
This causes the wrong status to be reported for the battery in the
following quite common scenario:
1) Plug in charger while battery is say half full, battery starts
charging, charging state bits indicate: pre-charge or fast-charge,
ACPI reported battery status is ok
2) When fully charged charging state bits indicate: end-of-charge,
ACPI reported battery status is ok
3) unplug the charger, wait 1 minute, replug. Now the battery voltage is
still above the start-charging threshold, so the charger will not start
charging to avoid wrecking the battery by repeatedly recharging the last 1%
capacity. The charger IC charging state bits now are all 0 (not-charging)
and the broken ACPI code wrongly translate this to "discharging" and ends
up setting the ACPI_BATTERY_STATE_DISCHARGING bit in its state field.
Reporting this "not charging" state as discharging is confusing for users,
making the user think his adapter/power-brick is broken or not properly
plugged in.
This commit adds a helper for handling the ACPI_BATTERY_STATE_DISCHARGING
state. This helper checks if we're an AC and the current going out of the
battery is 0 and in that case reports a status of "not charging" to
userspace rather then "discharging".
This replaces commit c68f0676ef ("ACPI / battery: Add quirk for Asus
GL502VSK and UX305LA"), a previous fix for this which was reverted.

ACPI / video: Only default only_lcd to true on Win8-ready _desktops_
ACPI / button: make module loadable when booted in non-ACPI mode
ACPI / watchdog: Prefer iTCO_wdt on Lenovo Z50-70
ACPI / scan: Initialize watchdog before PNP
Commit 5928c28152 (ACPI / video: Default lcd_only to true on Win8-ready
and newer machines) made only_lcd default to true on all machines where
acpi_osi_is_win8() returns true, including laptops.
The purpose of this is to avoid the bogus / non-working acpi backlight
interface which many newer BIOS-es define on desktop machines.
But this is causing a regression on some laptops, specifically on the
Dell XPS 13 2013 model, which does not have the LCD flag set for its
fully functional ACPI backlight interface.
Rather then DMI quirking our way out of this, this commits changes the
logic for setting only_lcd to true, to only do this on machines with
a desktop (or server) dmi chassis-type.
Note that we cannot simply only check the chassis-type and not register
the backlight interface based on that as there are some laptops and
tablets which have their chassis-type set to "3" aka desktop. Hopefully
the combination of checking the LCD flag, but only on devices with
a desktop(ish) chassis-type will avoid the needs for DMI quirks for this,
or at least limit the amount of DMI quirks which we need to a minimum.

Modules such as nouveau.ko and i915.ko have a link time dependency on
acpi_lid_open(), and due to its use of acpi_bus_register_driver(),
the button.ko module that provides it is only loadable when booted in
ACPI mode. However, the ACPI button driver can be built into the core
kernel as well, in which case the dependency can always be satisfied,
and the dependent modules can be loaded regardless of whether the
system was booted in ACPI mode or not.
So let's fix this asymmetry by making the ACPI button driver loadable
as a module even if not booted in ACPI mode, so it can provide the
acpi_lid_open() symbol in the same way as when built into the kernel.

WDAT table on Lenovo Z50-70 is using RTC SRAM (ports 0x70 and 0x71) to
store state of the timer. This conflicts with Linux RTC driver
(rtc-cmos.c) who fails to reserve those ports for itself preventing RTC
from functioning. In addition the WDAT table seems not to be fully
functional because it does not reset the system when the watchdog times
out.
On this system iTCO_wdt works just fine so we simply prefer to use it
instead of WDAT. This makes RTC working again and also results working
watchdog via iTCO_wdt.

Per the PCI Firmware spec r3.2, sec 4.5, an ACPI-based OS should use _OSC
to request control of Latency Tolerance Reporting (LTR) before using it.
Request control of LTR, and if the platform does not grant control, don't
use it.
N.B. If the hardware supports LTR and the ASPM L1.2 substate but the BIOS
doesn't support LTR in _OSC, we previously would enable ASPM L1.2. This
patch will prevent us from enabling ASPM L1.2 in that case. It does not
prevent us from enabling PCI-PM L1.2, since that doesn't depend on LTR.

At least on one Dell system the PNP motherboard resources device
includes resources used by WDAT table. Since PNP gets initialized before
WDAT it results following error and no watchdog:
platform wdat_wdt: failed to claim resource 3: [io 0x046a-0x046c]
ACPI: watchdog: Device creation failed: -16
Now, the PNP system driver is already accustomed with the situation that
it cannot reserve all those motherboard resources because drivers using
those might have reserved them already. In addition putting WDAT table
resources under motherboard resources device makes sense in general.
Fix this by initializing WDAT right before PNP. This allows WDAT to
reserve all its resources and still keeps PNP system driver happy.

Merge tag 'libnvdimm-for-4.17' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/nvdimm/nvdimm
Pull libnvdimm updates from Dan Williams:
"This cycle was was not something I ever want to repeat as there were
several late changes that have only now just settled.
Half of the branch up to commit d2c997c0f1 ("fs, dax: use
page->mapping to warn...") have been in -next for several releases.
The of_pmem driver and the address range scrub rework were late
arrivals, and the dax work was scaled back at the last moment.
The of_pmem driver missed a previous merge window due to an oversight.
A sense of obligation to rectify that miss is why it is included for
4.17. It has acks from PowerPC folks. Stephen reported a build failure
that only occurs when merging it with your latest tree, for now I have
fixed that up by disabling modular builds of of_pmem. A test merge
with your tree has received a build success report from the 0day robot
over 156 configs.
An initial version of the ARS rework was submitted before the merge
window. It is self contained to libnvdimm, a net code reduction, and
passing all unit tests.
The filesystem-dax changes are based on the wait_var_event()
functionality from tip/sched/core. However, late review feedback
showed that those changes regressed truncate performance to a large
degree. The branch was rewound to drop the truncate behavior change
and now only includes preparation patches and cleanups (with full acks
and reviews). The finalization of this dax-dma-vs-trnucate work will
need to wait for 4.18.
Summary:
- A rework of the filesytem-dax implementation provides for detection
of unmap operations (truncate / hole punch) colliding with
in-progress device-DMA. A fix for these collisions remains a
work-in-progress pending resolution of truncate latency and
starvation regressions.
- The of_pmem driver expands the users of libnvdimm outside of x86
and ACPI to describe an implementation of persistent memory on
PowerPC with Open Firmware / Device tree.
- Address Range Scrub (ARS) handling is completely rewritten to
account for the fact that ARS may run for 100s of seconds and there
is no platform defined way to cancel it. ARS will now no longer
block namespace initialization.
- The NVDIMM Namespace Label implementation is updated to handle
label areas as small as 1K, down from 128K.
- Miscellaneous cleanups and updates to unit test infrastructure"

After attempting to quickly retrieve known errors the kernel proceeds to
kick off a long running ARS. Add a module option to disable this
behavior at initialization time, or at new region discovery time.
Otherwise, ARS can be started manually regardless of the state of this
setting.

ARS is an operation that can take 10s to 100s of seconds to find media
errors that should rarely be present. If the platform crashes due to
media errors in persistent memory, the expectation is that the BIOS will
report those known errors in a 'short' ARS request.
A 'short' ARS request asks platform firmware to return an ARS payload
with all known errors, but without issuing a 'long' scrub. At driver
init a short request is issued to all PMEM ranges before registering
regions. Then, in the background, a long ARS is scheduled for each
region.
The ARS implementation is simplified to centralize ARS completion work
in the ars_complete() helper. The timeout is removed since there is no
facility to cancel ARS, and this otherwise arranges for system init to
never be blocked waiting for a 'long' ARS. The ars_state flags are used
to coordinate ARS requests from driver init, ARS requests from
userspace, and ARS requests in response to media error notifications.
Given that there is no notification of ARS completion the implementation
still needs to poll. It backs off exponentially to a maximum poll period
of 30 minutes.

acpi_nfit_query_poison() is awkward in that it requires an nfit_spa
argument in order to determine what max_ars value to use. Instead probe
for the minimum max_ars across all scrub-capable ranges in the system
and drop the nfit_spa argument.
This enables a larger rework / simplification of the ARS state machine
whereby the status can be retrieved once and then iterated over all
address ranges to reap completions.

Through the logical PIO framework, systems which otherwise have no IO space
access to legacy ISA/LPC devices may access these devices through so-called
"indirect IO" method. In this, IO space accesses for non-PCI hosts are
redirected to a host LLDD to manually generate the IO space (bus) accesses.
Hosts are able to register a region in logical PIO space to map to its bus
address range.
Indirect IO child devices have an associated host-specific bus address.
Special translation is required to map between a logical PIO address for a
device and its host bus address.
Since in the ACPI tables the child device IO resources would be the
host-specific values, it is required the ACPI scan code should not
enumerate these devices, and that this should be the responsibility of the
host driver so that it can "fixup" the resources so that they map to the
appropriate logical PIO addresses.
To avoid enumerating these child devices, add a check from
acpi_device_enumeration_by_parent() as to whether the parent for a device
is a member of a known list of "indirect IO" hosts. For now, the HiSilicon
LPC host controller ID is added.

Currently the ACPI scan has special handling for serial bus slaves, in that
it makes it the responsibility of the slave device's parent to enumerate
the device.
To support other types of slave devices which require the same special
handling but where the bus is not strictly a serial bus, such as devices on
the HiSilicon LPC controller bus, rename acpi_is_serial_bus_slave() to
acpi_device_enumeration_by_parent(), so that the name can fit the wider
purpose.
Also rename the associated device flag acpi_device_flags.serial_bus_slave

Pull ACPI updates from Rafael Wysocki:
"These update the ACPICA code in the kernel to follow upstream revision
20180313 which includes fixes related to the so-called module-level
AML (mostly "if" type of statements outside of any methods) that
should improve the handling of systems that load alternative SSDTs
depending on the current configuration, for example, and event
handling fixes related to disabling and enabling GPEs on system
startup and on suspend/resume.
Moreover, the ACPICA license boilerplate is replaced with SPDX license
IDs which alone reduces the number of lines of ACPICA code in the
kernel quite a bit.
Also added is a new driver for the generic ACPI Time and Alarm Device
(TAD). At the moment it only handles the most basic capabilities of
the TAD, however.
In addition to that the ACPI battery driver is improved to handle
battery thresholds on ThinkPads, among other things, some bugs are
fixed, a new backlight quirk is added and some documentation is
updated.

Commit 1cf03c00e7 "nfit: scrub and register regions in a workqueue"
mistakenly attempts to register a region per BLK aperture. There is
nothing to register for individual apertures as they belong as a set to
a BLK aperture group that are registered with a corresponding
DIMM-control-region. Filter them for registration to prevent some
needless devm_kzalloc() allocations.
