UAPI Changes:
- GGTT coherency GETPARAM: GGTT has turned out to be non-coherent for some
platforms, which we've failed to communicate to userspace so far. SNA was
modified to do extra flushing on non-coherent GGTT access, while Mesa will
mitigate by always requiring WC mapping (which is non-coherent anyway).
- Neuter Resource Streamer uAPI: There never really were users for the feature,
so neuter it while keeping the interface bits for compatibility. This is a
long due item from past.

gen8_de_irq_postinstall() wasn't masking the IRQ bit before passing the
debug flag to psr_irq_control(). This check was missed when new debug bits
were defined in 'commit c44301fce6 ("drm/i915: Allow control of PSR at
runtime through debugfs, v6")'. Instead of ANDing the irq bit in all the
callers, move it to the callee.

After
commit 2cd9a689e9 ("drm/i915: Refactor intel_display_set_init_power() logic")
it makes more sense to check the power domain/well refcounts after
enabling the power domains functionality. Before that it's guaranteed
that most power wells (in the INIT domain) will have a reference held,
so not an interesting state.
While at it also add the check after the init_hw/fini_hw, disable and
suspend/resume steps. Make the test optional on a Kconfig option since
it may add substantial overhead: on VLV/CHV the corresponding PUNIT reg
access for each power well may take up to 20ms.
v2:
- Add the state check to more spots. (Chris)
v3:
- During suspend check the state before deiniting display core.
Afterwards DC states are disabled (and so the dc_off power well is
enabled) even though we don't hold a reference on it.
- Do the test conditionally based on a new Kconfig option. (Chris)

Currently, we cancel the extra wakeref we have for !runtime-pm devices
inside power_wells_fini_hw. However, this is not strictly paired with
the acquisition of that wakeref in runtime_pm_enable (as the fini_hw may

Currently tests modify i915.enable_psr and then do a modeset cycle
to change PSR. We can write a value to i915_edp_psr_debug to force
a certain PSR mode without a modeset.
To retain compatibility with older userspace, we also still allow
the override through the module parameter, and add some tracking
to check whether a debugfs mode is specified.
Changes since v1:
- Rename dev_priv->psr.enabled to .dp, and .hw_configured to .enabled.
- Fix i915_psr_debugfs_mode to match the writes to debugfs.
- Rename __i915_edp_psr_write to intel_psr_set_debugfs_mode, simplify
it and move it to intel_psr.c. This keeps all internals in intel_psr.c
- Perform an interruptible wait for hw completion outside of the psr
lock, instead of being forced to trywait and return -EBUSY.

RPS provides a feedback loop where we use the load during the previous
evaluation interval to decide whether to up or down clock the GPU
frequency. Our responsiveness is split into 3 regimes, a high and low
plateau with the intent to keep the gpu clocked high to cover occasional
stalls under high load, and low despite occasional glitches under steady
low load, and inbetween. However, we run into situations like kodi where
we want to stay at low power (video decoding is done efficiently
inside the fixed function HW and doesn't need high clocks even for high
bitrate streams), but just occasionally the pipeline is more complex
than a video decode and we need a smidgen of extra GPU power to present
on time. In the high power regime, we sample at sub frame intervals with
a bias to upclocking, and conversely at low power we sample over a few
frames worth to provide what we consider to be the right levels of
responsiveness respectively. At low power, we more or less expect to be
kicked out to high power at the start of a busy sequence by waitboosting.
Prior to commit e9af4ea2b9 ("drm/i915: Avoid waitboosting on the active
request") whenever we missed the frame or stalled, we would immediate go
full throttle and upclock the GPU to max. But in commit e9af4ea2b9, we
relaxed the waitboosting to only apply if the pipeline was deep to avoid
over-committing resources for a near miss. Sadly though, a near miss is
still a miss, and perceptible as jitter in the frame delivery.
To try and prevent the near miss before having to resort to boosting
after the fact, we use the pageflip queue as an indication that we are
in an "interactive" regime and so should sample the load more frequently
to provide power before the frame misses it vblank. This will make us
more favorable to providing a small power increase (one or two bins) as
required rather than going all the way to maximum and then having to
work back down again. (We still keep the waitboosting mechanism around
just in case a dramatic change in system load requires urgent uplocking,
faster than we can provide in a few evaluation intervals.)
v2: Reduce rps_set_interactive to a boolean parameter to avoid the
confusion of what if they wanted a new power mode after pinning to a
different mode (which to choose?)
v3: Only reprogram RPS while the GT is awake, it will be set when we
wake the GT, and while off warns about being used outside of rpm.

It was originally introduced following the VESA spec in order to validate PSR.
However we found so many issues around sink_crc that instead of helping PSR
development it only brought another layer of trouble to the table.
So, sink_crc has been a black whole for us in question of time, effort and hope.
First of the problems is that HW statement is clear: "Do not attempt to use
aux communication with PSR enabled". So the main reason behind sink_crc is
already compromised.
For a while we had hope on the aux-mutex could workaround this problem on SKL+
platforms, but that mutex was not reliable, not tested,
and we shouldn't use according to HW engineers.
Also, nor source, nor sink designed and implemented the sink_crc to be used like
we are trying to use here.
Well, the sink side of things is also apparently not prepared for this
case. Each panel that we tried seemed to have a different behavior with same
code and same source.
So, for all the time we lost on trying to ducktape all these different issues
I believe it is now time to move PSR to a more reliable validation.
Maybe not a perfect one as we dreamed for this sink_crc, but at least more
reliable.

Instead of looping over ports and hpd_pins, let's loop over
the encoders when doing hotplug processing. And instead of
depending on dev_priv->irq_port[] to tell us whether the
encoder has the ->hpd_pulse() hook or not, we can just
check for that directly. So we can just nuke irq_port[] entirely.

When measured on a scope the highspeed lines of the HDMI clock turn off

GLK NUC appears to require at least a full frame of quiet time before a
new faster clock can be correctly sync'd. Wait 100ms due to msleep

In commit "drm/i915: Wait for PSR exit before checking for vblank
evasion", the idea was to limit the PSR IDLE checks when PSR is
actually supported. While CAN_PSR does do that check, it doesn't
applies on a per-crtc basis. crtc_state->has_psr is a more granular
check that only applies to pipe(s) that have PSR enabled.
Without the has_psr check, we end up waiting on the eDP transcoder's
PSR_STATUS register irrespective of whether the pipe being updated is
driving it or not.

Avoid confusion with the functions to be added for the new ICL or gen 11
DSI implementation by renaming the current DSI functions. While at it,
permutate the words in the function names to make them all start with
"vlv_dsi" or "vlv_dsi_pll" etc.
Reduce the platform abstractions in the PLL file while at it, moving the
checks to vlv_dsi.c instead, where we typically already have the
necessary if ladders.
Leave the static functions as-is for now; they could be renamed later if
needed.

This is a lockless version of the exisiting psr_wait_for_idle().
We want to wait for PSR to idle out inside intel_pipe_update_start.
At the time of a pipe update, we should never race with any psr
enable or disable code, which is a part of crtc enable/disable.
The follow up patch will use this lockless wait inside pipe_update_
start to wait for PSR to idle out before checking for vblank evasion.
We need to keep the wait in pipe_update_start to as less as it can be.
So,we can live and flourish w/o taking any psr locks at all.
Even if psr is never enabled, psr2_enabled will be false and this
function will wait for PSR1 to idle out, which should just return
immediately, so a very short (~1-2 usec) wait for cases where PSR
is disabled.
v2: Add comment to explain the 25msec timeout (DK)
v3: Rename psr_wait_for_idle to __psr_wait_for_idle_locked to avoid
naming conflicts and propagate err (if any) to the caller (Chris)
v5: Form a series with the next patch

timeout to handle refresh rates < 60 Hz (Daniel Vetter)

So far we got an AUX power domain reference only for the duration of DP
AUX transfers. However, the following suggests that we also need these
for main link functionality:
- The specification doesn't state whether it's needed or not for main
link functionality, but suggests that these power wells need to be
enabled already during display core initialization (Sequences to
Initialize Display).
- For PSR we need to keep the AUX power well enabled.
- On ICL combo PHY ports (non-TC) the AUX power well is needed for
link training too: while the port is enabled with a DP link training
test pattern trying to toggle the AUX power well will time out.
- On ICL MG PHY ports (TC) the AUX power well is needed also for main
link functionality (both in DP and HDMI modes).
- Windows enables these power wells both for main and AUX lane
functionality.
Based on the above take an AUX power reference for main link
functionality too. This makes a difference only on GEN10+ (GLK+)
platforms, where we have separate port specific AUX power wells.
For PSR we still need to distinguish between port A and the other
ports, since on port A DC states must stay enabled for main link
functionality, but DC states must be disabled for driver initiated
AUX transfers. So re-use the corresponding helper from intel_psr.c.
Since we take now a reference for main link functionality on all DP
ports we can forgo taking the separate power ref for PSR functionality.
v2:
- Make sure DC states stay enabled when taking the ref on port A.

v3: (Ville)

Like we do for encoder let's make the plane->get_hw_state() return
the pipe to which the plane is currently attached. We don't currently
allow planes to move between the pipes, but perhaps one day we will.
In either case this makes the code more uniform and perhaps makes
intel_plane_mapping_ok() slightly more clear.
Note that for i965 and g4x planes A and B still have pipe select bits
but they're hardwired to pipe A and B respectively. This means we can
safely interpret those bits just like on gen2/3. This allows the
same readout code work for plane C (which can still be assigned
to eiter pipe on i965) should we ever expose it.
g4x no longer allows moving the cursor planes between the pipes,
but the pipe select bits can still be set in the register. Thus
we have to ignore those bits. OTOH i965 still allows the cursors
to move between pipes thus we have to trust the bits there.

This reverts commit dc911f5bd8.
Per the report, no matter what display mode you select with xrandr, the
i915 driver will always select the alternate fixed mode. For the
reporter this means that the display will always run at 40Hz which is
quite annoying. This may be due to the mode comparison.
But there are some other potential issues. The choice of alt_fixed_mode
seems dubious. It's the first non-preferred mode, but there are no
guarantees that the only difference would be refresh rate. Similarly,
there may be more than one preferred mode in the probed modes list, and
the commit changes the preferred mode selection to choose the last one
on the list instead of the first.
(Note that the probed modes list is the raw, unfiltered, unsorted list
of modes from drm_add_edid_modes(), not the pretty result after a
drm_helper_probe_single_connector_modes() call.)
Finally, we already have eerily similar code in place to find the
downclock mode for DRRS that seems like could be reused here.
Back to the drawing board.

Up to now we've used the plane's modifier list as the primary
source of information for which modifiers are supported by a
given plane. In order to allow auxiliary metadata to be embedded
within the bits of the modifier we need to stop doing that.
Thus we have to make .format_mod_supported() aware of the plane's
capabilities and gracefully deal with any modifier being passed
in directly from userspace.

PSR hardware and hence the driver code for VLV and CHV deviates a lot from
their DDI counterparts. While the feature has been disabled for a long time
now, retaining support for these platforms is a maintenance burden. There
have been multiple refactoring commits to just keep the existing code for
these platforms in line with the rest. There are known issues that need to
be fixed to enable PSR on these platforms, and there is no PSR capable
platform in CI to ensure the code does not break again if we get around to
fixing the existing issues. On account of all these reasons, let's nuke
this code for now and bring it back if a need arises in the future.

Interrupts other than the one for AUX errors are required only for debug,
so unmask them via debugfs when the user requests debug.
User can make such a request with
echo 1 > <DEBUG_FS>/dri/0/i915_edp_psr_debug
There are no locks to serialize PSR debug enabling from
irq_postinstall() and debugfs for simplicity. As irq_postinstall() is
called only during module initialization/resume and IGT subtests
aren't expected to modify PSR debug at those times, we should be safe.

When call to skl_update_scaler is made, 0 was being
sent instead of pixel_format.
When crtc update scaler is called, we dont have the
fb to derive the pixel format. Added the function
parameter bool plane_scaler_check to account for this.
v12: Fixed failure in IGT debugfs_test.
fb is NULL in skl_update_scaler_plane
Due to this, accessing fb->format caused failure.
Patch checks fb before using.
v13: In the previous version there was a flaw.
In skl_update_scaler during plane_scaler_check
if the format was non-NV12, it would set need_scaling
to false. This could reset the previously set need_scaling
from a previous condition check. Patch fixes this.
Patch also adds minimum src height for YUV 420 formats
to 16 (as defined in BSpec) and adds for checking this
range.

When we're disabling the HDMI link we try to reset the scrambling and
TMDS bit clock ratio back to the default values. This will fail if the
sink has already been disconnected. Thus we should not print an error

still want to know what happended for debug purposes so let's use

So far we are using frontbuffer tracking for everything
and ignoring that PSR has a HW capable HW tracking for many
modern usages of GPU on Core platforms and newer Atom ones.
One reason for that is that we were trying to keep same
infrastructure in place for VLV/CHV than the rest of platforms.
But also because when this infrastructure was created
the front-buffer-tracking origin wasn't that good and stable
how it is today after Paulo reworked it to attend FBC cases.
However this PSR implementation without HW tracking died
on gen8LP. And newer platforms are starting to demand more HW
tracking specially with PSR2 cases in mind.
By disabling and re-enabling PSR totally every time we believe
someone is going to change the front buffer content we don't
allow PSR HW tracking to do this job and specially compromising
the whole idea of PSR2 case where the HW tracking detect only
the damaged area and do a partial screen update.
So, from now on, on the platforms that has hw_tracking let's
rely more on HW tracking.
This also is the case in used by other drivers and more validated
by SV teams. So I hope that this will lead us to less misterious
bugs.
v2: Only do this for platform that actually has hw tracking.
v3 from DK

LSPCON likes to throw short HPDs during the enable seqeunce prior to the
link being trained. These obviously result in the channel CR/EQ check
failing and thus we schedule a pointless hotplug work to retrain the
link. Avoid that by ignoring the bad CR/EQ status until we've actually
initially trained the link.
I've not actually investigated to see what LSPCON is trying to signal
with the short pulse. But as long as it signals anything I think we're
supposed to check the link status anyway, so I don't really see other
good ways to solve this. I've not seen these short pulses being
generated by normal DP sinks.

Doing link retraining from the short pulse handler is problematic since
that might introduce deadlocks with MST sideband processing. Currently
we don't retrain MST links from this code, but we want to change that.
So better to move the entire thing to the hotplug work. We can utilize
the new encoder->hotplug() hook for this.
The only thing we leave in the short pulse handler is the link status
check. That one still depends on the link parameters stored under
intel_dp, so no locking around that but races should be mostly harmless
as the actual retraining code will recheck the link state if we
end up there by mistake.

We want to de-emphasize the link between the request (dependency,
execution and fence tracking) from GEM and so rename the struct from
drm_i915_gem_request to i915_request. That is we may implement the GEM
user interface on top of requests, but they are an abstraction for
tracking execution rather than an implementation detail of GEM. (Since
they are not tied to HW, we keep the i915 prefix as opposed to intel.)
In short, the spatch:
@@
@@
- struct drm_i915_gem_request
+ struct i915_request
A corollary to contracting the type name, we also harmonise on using
'rq' shorthand for local variables where space if of the essence and
repetition makes 'request' unwieldy. For globals and struct members,
'request' is still much preferred for its clarity.

As described in the WA on GLK and CNL planes on the right edge of the
screen that have less than 4 pixels visible from the beginning of the
plane to the edge of the screen can cause FIFO underflow and display
corruption.
On GLK/CNL I could trigger the problem only if the plane was at the same
time also aligned to the top edge of the screen (after clipping) and
there were exactly 2 pixels visible from the start of the plane to the
right edge of the screen (so couldn't trigger it with 1 or 3 pixels
visible). Nevertheless, to be sure, I also applied the WA for these cases.
I also couldn't see any problem with the cursor plane and later Art
confirmed that it's not affected, so the WA is applied only for the
other plane types.

In addition to allowing sprites to scan out compressed fbs,

It has been many years since the last confirmed sighting (and fix) of an
RC6 related bug (usually a system hang). Remove the parameter to stop
users from setting dangerous values, as they often set it during triage
and end up disabling the entire runtime pm instead (the option is not a
fine scalpel!).
Furthermore, it allows users to set known dangerous values which were
intended for testing and not for production use. For testing, we can
always patch in the required setting without having to expose ourselves
to random abuse.

Instead of sleeping for a fixed 1ms (roughly, depending on timer slack),
start with a small sleep and exponentially increase the sleep on each
cycle.
A good example of a beneficiary is the guc mmio communication channel.
Typically we expect (and so spin) for 10us for a quick response, but this
doesn't cover everything and so sometimes we fallback to the millisecond+
sleep. This incurs a significant delay in time-critical operations like
preemption (igt/gem_exec_latency), which can be improved significantly by
using a small sleep after the spin fails.
We've made this suggestion many times, but had little experimental data
to support adding the complexity.
v2: Bump the minimum usleep to 10us on advice of
Documentation/timers/timers-howto.txt (Tvrko)
v3: Specify min, max range for usleep intervals -- some code may
crucially depend upon and so want to specify the sleep pattern.

Now that we always execute a context switch upon module load, there is
no need to queue a delayed task for doing so. The purpose of the delayed
task is to enable GT powersaving, for which we need the HW state to be
valid (i.e. having loaded a context and initialised basic state). We
used to defer this operation as historically it was slow (due to slow
register polling, fixed with commit 1758b90e38 ("drm/i915: Use a hybrid

Currently the DDI encoder->type will change at runtime depending on
what kind of hotplugs we've processed. That's quite bad since we can't
really trust that that current value of encoder->type actually matches
the type of signal we're trying to drive through it.
Let's eliminate that problem by declaring that non-eDP DDI port will
always have the encoder type as INTEL_OUTPUT_DDI. This means the code
can no longer try to distinguish DP vs. HDMI based on encoder->type.
We'll leave eDP as INTEL_OUTPUT_EDP, since it'll never change and
there's a bunch of code that relies on that value to identify eDP
encoders.
We'll introduce a new encoder .compute_output_type() hook. This allows
us to compute the full output_types before any encoder .compute_config()
hooks get called, thus those hooks can rely on output_types being
correct, which is useful for cloning on oldr platforms. For now we'll
just look at the connector type and pick the correct mode based on that.
In the future the new hook could be used to implement dynamic switching
between LS and PCON modes for LSPCON.

from port instead of pipe. Thus, we can't rely on pipe scanline
registers to get the timing information. Some cases scanline
register read will not be functional.
This is causing vblank evasion logic to fail since it relies on
scanline, causing atomic update failure warnings.
This patch uses pipe framestamp and current timestamp registers
to calculate scanline. This is an indirect way to get the scanline.
It helps resolve atomic update failure for gen9 dsi platforms.
v2: Addressed Ville and Daniel's review comments. Updated the
register MACROs, handled race condition for register reads,
extracted timings from the hwmode. Removed the dependency on
crtc->config to get the encoder type.
v3: Made get scanline function generic
v4: Addressed Ville's review comments. Added a flag to decide timestamp
based scanline reporting. Changed 64bit variables to u32
v5: Adressed Ville's review comments. Put the scanline compute function
at the place of caller. Removed hwmode flags from uapi and used a local
i915 data structure instead.
v6: Used vblank hwmode to get the timings.
v7: Fixed sparse warnings, indentation and minor review comments.
v8: Limited this only for Gen9 DSI.

This patch adds IPC support. This patch also enables IPC in all supported
platforms based on has_ipc flag.
IPC (Isochronous Priority Control) is the hardware feature, which
dynamically controls the memory read priority of Display.
When IPC is enabled, plane read requests are sent at high priority until
filling above the transition watermark, then the requests are sent at
lower priority until dropping below the level 0 watermark.
The lower priority requests allow other memory clients to have better
memory access. When IPC is disabled, all plane read requests are sent at
high priority.
Changes since V1:
- Remove commandline parameter to disable ipc
- Address Paulo's comments
Changes since V2:

- Set ipc_enabled flag
Changes since V3:

Oneshot disabling of IPS when CRC capturing is started is insufficient.
IPS may get re-enabled by any plane update, and hence tests that keep
CRC capturing on across plane updates will start to see inconsistent
results as soon as IPS kicks back in. Add a new knob into the crtc state
to make sure IPS stays disabled as long as CRC capturing is enabled.
Forcing a modeset is the easiest way to handle this since that's already
how we do the panel fitter workaround. It's a little heavy handed just
for IPS, but seeing as we might already do the panel fitter workaround
I think it's better to follow that. We migth want to optimize both cases
later if someone gets too upset by the extra delay from the modeset.

If we miss the current vblank because the gpu was busy, that may cause a
jitter as the frame rate temporarily drops. We try to limit the impact
of this by then boosting the GPU clock to deliver the frame as quickly
as possible. Originally done in commit 6ad790c0f5 ("drm/i915: Boost GPU
frequency if we detect outstanding pageflips") but was never forward
ported to atomic and finally dropped in commit fd3a40242e ("drm/i915:
Rip out legacy page_flip completion/irq handling").
One of the most typical use-cases for this is a mostly idle desktop.
Rendering one frame of the desktop's frontbuffer can easily be
accomplished by the GPU running at low frequency, but often exceeds
the time budget of the desktop compositor. The result is that animations
such as opening the menu, doing a fullscreen switch, or even just trying
to move a window around are slow and jerky. We need to respond within a
frame to give the best impression of a smooth UX, as a compromise we
instead respond if that first frame misses its goal. The result should
be a near-imperceivable initial delay and a smooth animation even
starting from idle. The cost, as ever, is that we spend more power than
is strictly necessary as we overestimate the required GPU frequency and
then try to ramp down.
This of course is reactionary, too little, too late; nevertheless it is
surprisingly effective.

Once a client has requested a waitboost, we keep that waitboost active
until all clients are no longer waiting. This is because we don't
distinguish which waiter deserves the boost. However, with the advent of
fence signaling, the signaler threads appear as waiters to the RPS
interrupt handler. So instead of using a single boolean to track when to
keep the waitboost active, use a counter of all outstanding waitboosted
requests.
At this point, I have removed all vestiges of the rate limiting on
clients. Whilst this means that compositors should remain more fluid,
it also means that boosts are more prevalent. See commit b29c19b645
("drm/i915: Boost RPS frequency for CPU stalls") for a longer discussion
on the pros and cons of both approaches.
A drawback of this implementation is that it requires constant request
submission to keep the waitboost trimmed (as it is now cancelled when the
request is completed). This will be fine for a busy system, but near

Linux 4.12-rc5 for nouveau fixes
830 more or less requires both pipes and DPLLs to remain on as long
as either pipe is needed. However, when neither pipe is actually needed,
we can save a bit of power by turning everything off. To do that we add
a new "power well" that turns both pipes and DPLLs on and off in the
right order. Seems to save ~50mW on my Fujitsu-Siemens Lifebook S6010.
This also avoids having to abuse the load detection to force pipe A on
at init time. That was never very robust, and it only worked for one
pipe, whereas 830 really needs both pipes enabled. As a bonus the 830
pipe quirk is now a bit more isolated from the rest of the mode setting
infrastructure, which should mean that it's much less likely someone
will accidentally break it in the future. The extra cost is of course
slight code duplication, but that seems like a worthwile tradeoff here.

A display resolution is only supported if it meets all the restrictions
below for Maximum Pipe Pixel Rate.
The display resolution must fit within the maximum pixel rate output
from the pipe. Make sure that the display pipe is able to feed pixels at
a rate required to support the desired resolution.
For each enabled plane on the pipe {
If plane scaling enabled {
Horizontal down scale amount = Maximum[1, plane horizontal size /
scaler horizontal window size]
Vertical down scale amount = Maximum[1, plane vertical size /
scaler vertical window size]
Plane down scale amount = Horizontal down scale amount *
Vertical down scale amount
Plane Ratio = 1 / Plane down scale amount
}
Else {
Plane Ratio = 1
}
If plane source pixel format is 64 bits per pixel {
Plane Ratio = Plane Ratio * 8/9
}
}
Pipe Ratio = Minimum Plane Ratio of all enabled planes on the pipe
If pipe scaling is enabled {
Horizontal down scale amount = Maximum[1, pipe horizontal source size /
scaler horizontal window size]
Vertical down scale amount = Maximum[1, pipe vertical source size /
scaler vertical window size]
Note: The progressive fetch - interlace display mode is equivalent to a
2.0 vertical down scale
Pipe down scale amount = Horizontal down scale amount *
Vertical down scale amount
Pipe Ratio = Pipe Ratio / Pipe down scale amount
}
Pipe maximum pixel rate = CDCLK frequency * Pipe Ratio
In this patch our calculation is based on pipe downscale amount
(plane max downscale amount * pipe downscale amount) instead of Pipe
Ratio. So,
max supported crtc clock with given scaling = CDCLK / pipe downscale.
Flip will fail if,
current crtc clock > max supported crct clock with given scaling.

SDVO was the last connector that's still using the legacy paths
for properties, and this is with a reason!
This connector implements a lot of properties dynamically,
and some of them shared with the digital connector state,
so sdvo_connector_state subclasses intel_digital_connector_state.
set_property had a lot of validation, but this is handled in the
drm core, so most of the validation can die off. The properties
are written right before enabling the connector, since there is no
good way to update the properties without crtc.

Some atomic properties are common between the various kinds of
connectors, for example a lot of them use panel fitting mode.
It makes sense to put a lot of it in a common place, so each
connector can use it while they're being converted.
Implement the properties required for the connectors:
- scaling mode property
- force audio property
- broadcast rgb
- aspect ratio
While at it, make clear that intel_digital_connector_atomic_get_property
is a hack that has to be removed when all connector properties
are converted to atomic.

Changes since v2:

Implement proper two stage watermark programming for g4x. As with
other pre-SKL platforms, the watermark registers aren't double
buffered on g4x. Hence we must sequence the watermark update
carefully around plane updates.
The code is quite heavily modelled on the VLV/CHV code, with some
fairly significant differences due to the different hardware
architecture:
* g4x doesn't use inverted watermark values
* CxSR actually affects the watermarks since it controls memory self
refresh in addition to the max FIFO mode
* A further HPLL SR mode is possible with higher memory wakeup
latency
* g4x has FBC2 and so it also has FBC watermarks
* max FIFO mode for primary plane only (cursor is allowed, sprite is not)
* g4x has no manual FIFO repartitioning
* some TLB miss related workarounds are needed for the watermarks
Actually the hardware is quite similar to ILK+ in many ways. The
most visible differences are in the actual watermakr register
layout. ILK revamped that part quite heavily whereas g4x is still
using the layout inherited from earlier platforms.
Note that we didn't previously enable the HPLL SR on g4x. So in order
to not introduce too many functional changes in this patch I've not
actually enabled it here either, even though the code is now fully
ready for it. We'll enable it separately later on.

If link training at a link rate optimal for a particular
mode fails during modeset's atomic commit phase, then we
let the modeset complete and then retry. We save the link rate
value at which link training failed, update the link status property
to "BAD" and use a lower link rate to prune the modes. It will redo
the modeset on the current mode at lower link rate or if the current
mode gets pruned due to lower link constraints then, it will send a
hotplug uevent for userspace to handle it.
This is also required to pass DP CTS tests 4.3.1.3, 4.3.1.4,
4.3.1.6.
This patch is a resend of the original commit id (233ce881dd
"drm/i915: Implement Link Rate fallback on Link training failure")
which got reverted in this commit id (afc1ebf456 Revert
"drm/i915: Implement Link Rate fallback on Link training failure")
due to CI failures.
After investigating the CI failures it was found that these
were essentially the failures which were always there but hidden because
they used to be DRM_DEBUG_KMS messages for link failures so never got
caught by CI. But now this patch actually throws DRM_ERROR if the link
training fails at RBR and 1 lane. So it caught these link train failures.
There were two failures:
1. On SKL 6700k this was because the machine in CI lab is a SKL desktop
without eDP on Port A. But our VBT initialization code in the driver writes
VBT defaults in a way that it always sets DP flag on Port A and this does
not get cleared after parsing the VBT outputs. This has been fixed in
commit id (bb1d132935 "drm/i915/vbt: split out defaults that are set
when there is no VBT) and (665788572c "drm/i915/vbt: don't propagate
errors from intel_bios_init())
2. On ILK-650 desktop - This was happening because of a bad monitor desktop
combination. I switched the monitor in the CI lab and that helped get rid
of the link failures on ILK system.

mode_valid() called from drm_helper_probe_single_connector_modes()
may need to look at connector->state because what a valid mode is may
depend on connector properties being set. For example some HDMI modes
might be rejected when a connector property forces the connector
into DVI mode.
Some implementations of detect() already lock all state,
so we have to pass an acquire_ctx to them to prevent a deadlock.
This means changing the function signature of detect() slightly,
and passing the acquire_ctx for locking multiple crtc's.
For the callbacks, it will always be non-zero. To allow callers
not to worry about this, drm_helper_probe_detect_ctx is added
which might handle -EDEADLK for you.
Changes since v1:
- Always set ctx parameter.
Changes since v2:
- Always take connection_mutex when probing.
Changes since v3:
- Remove the ctx from intel_dp_long_pulse, and add
WARN_ON(!connection_mutex) (danvet)
- Update docs to clarify the locking situation. (danvet)

There is some conflation related to sink rates, making this change more
complicated than it would otherwise have to be. There are three changes
here that are rather difficult to split up:
1) Use the intel_dp->sink_rates array for all DP, not just eDP 1.4. We
initialize it from DPCD on eDP 1.4 like before, but generate it based
on DP_MAX_LINK_RATE on others. This reduces code complexity when we
need to use the sink rates; they are all always in the sink_rates
array.
2) Update the sink rate array whenever we read DPCD, and use the
information from there. This increases code readability when we need
the sink rates.
3) Disentangle fallback rate limiting from sink rates. In the code, the
max rate is a dynamic property of the *link*, not of the *sink*. Do
the limiting after intersecting the source and sink rates, which are
static properties of the devices.
This paves the way for follow-up refactoring that I've refrained from
doing here to keep this change as simple as it possibly can.

Geminilake platform sports a native HDMI 2.0 controller, and is
capable of driving pixel-clocks upto 594Mhz. HDMI 2.0 spec
mendates scrambling for these higher clocks, for reduced RF footprint.
This patch checks if the monitor supports scrambling, and if required,
enables it during the modeset.
V2: Addressed review comments from Ville:
- Do not track scrambling status in DRM layer, track somewhere in
driver like in intel_crtc_state.
- Don't talk to monitor at such a low layer, set monitor scrambling
in intel_enable_ddi() before enabling the port.
V3: Addressed review comments from Jani
- In comments, function names, use "sink" instead of "monitor",
so that the implementation could be close to the language of
HDMI spec.

small buglet in our CI, so reverted.
- more debugfs_remove removal from Noralf, almost there now (Noralf

- misc small things all over, as usual
- add vblank callbacks to drm_crtc_funcs, plus make lots of good use
of this to simplify drivers (Shawn Guo)
- new atomic iterator macros to unconfuse old vs. new state
Small drivers:
- vc4 improvements from Eric
- vc4 kerneldocs (Eric)!
- tons of improvements for dw-mipi-dsi in rockchip from John Keeping
and Chris Zhong.
- MAINTAINERS entries for drivers managed in drm-misc. It's not yet
official, still an experiment, but definitely not complete fail and
better to avoid confusion. We kinda screwed that up with drm-misc a
bit when we started committers last year.
- qxl atomic conversion (Gabriel Krisman)
- bunch of virtual driver polish (qxl, virgl, ...)
- misc tiny patches all over
This is the first time we've done the same merge-window blackout for
drm-misc as we've done for drm-intel for ages, hence why we have a
_lot_ of stuff queued already. But it's still only half of drm-intel
(room to grow!), and the drivers in drm-misc experiment seems to work
at least insofar as that you also get lots of driver updates here
alredy.

Remove crtc->wm.cxsr_allowed and just rely on crtc_state->disable_cxsr
instead. This was used only by vlv/chv to indicate whether to enable
cxsr in the wm computation. That doesn't really work anymore, and as far
as the optimal watermarks go we'll just consider the number of planes
and the current pipe, and for the intermediate watermarks we'll also
start to consider disable_cxsr which is set appropriately when planes
are being enabled/disabled.
We'll also flip over the crtc_state->wm.need_postvbl_update setup so
that it's the wm code that will set it. Previously the generic code set
it up, and then the wm code cleared it again if it thought it's not
needed after all.

Since the watermark registers arent double buffered on VLV/CHV, we'll
need to play around with intermediate watermarks same was as we do on
ILK-BDW.
The watermark registers on VLV/CHV contain inverted values, so to find
the intermediate watermark value we just take the minimum of the
active and optimal values. This also means that, unlike ILK-BDW,
there's no chance that we'd fail to find a working intermediate
watermarks. As long as both the active and optimal watermarks are valid
the intermediate watermarks will come out valid as well.

.compute_pipe_wm() hook. We'll recompute the actual watermarks
for only planes that are part of the state, the other planes will
keep their watermark from the last time it was computed.
And the actual watermark programming will happen from the
.initial_watermarks() hook. For now we'll just compute the
optimal watermarks, and we'll hook up the intermediate
watermarks properly later.

double buffered, so they will be programming from

Let's compute the watermarks first and the FIFO size second. This way we
can make sure the FIFO split is the most accommodating to the watermarks.
Previously we could have potentially computed a FIFO split that couldn't
accommodate the PM2 watermarks simply due to a bad split even if the
total FIFO size would have been sufficient.
It'll also allow us to avoid recomputing the wms for all planes whenever
the FIFO split would change. Thus we don't have to add any extra planes
to the state when the FIFO needs to be repartitioned.
To help with this we'll keep around copies of the non-inverted
watermarks in the crtc state. For now that doesn't help too much, but
once we start to do the watermark computation only for the planes
that change we'll need the non-inverted values around for the other
planes.

let the modeset complete and then retry.
This is also required to pass DP CTS tests 4.3.1.3, 4.3.1.4,
4.3.1.6.
v9:
* Use the trimmed max values of link rate/lane count based on
link train fallback (Daniel Vetter)
v8:
* Set link_status to BAD first and then call mode_valid (Jani Nikula)
v7:
Remove the redundant variable in previous patch itself
v6:
* Obtain link rate index from fallback_link_rate using
the helper intel_dp_link_rate_index (Jani Nikula)
* Include fallback within intel_dp_start_link_train (Jani Nikula)
v5:
* Move set link status to drm core (Daniel Vetter, Jani Nikula)
v4:
* Add fallback support for non DDI platforms too
* Set connector->link status inside set_link_status function
(Jani Nikula)
v3:
* Set link status property to BAd unconditionally (Jani Nikula)
* Dont use two separate variables link_train_failed and link_status
to indicate same thing (Jani Nikula)
v2:
* Squashed a few patches (Jani Nikula)
