The i2c touchpad on Dell XPS 9570 and Precision M5530 doesn't work out
of box.
The touchpad relies on its _INI method to update its _HID value from
XXXX0000 to SYNA2393.
Also, the _STA relies on value of I2CN to report correct status.
Set acpi_gbl_parse_table_as_term_list so the value of I2CN can be
correctly set up, and _INI can get run. The ACPI table in this machine
is designed to get parsed this way.
Also, change the quirk table to a more generic name.

Export lpit_read_residency_count_address(), so that it can be used from
drivers built as module. With the recent changes, the builtin_pci
functionality of the intel_pmc_core driver is removed and now it can be
built as a module to read this exported interface to calculate the PMC base
address.

This is because if there's only one online CPU, the MSR_PM_ENABLE
(package wide)can not be enabled after resumed, due to
intel_pstate_hwp_enable() will only be invoked on AP's online
process after resumed - if there's no AP online, the HWP remains
disabled after resumed (BIOS has disabled it in S3). Then if
there comes a _PPC change notification which touches HWP register
during this stage, the warning is triggered.
Since we don't call acpi_processor_register_performance() when
HWP is enabled, the pr->performance will be NULL. When this is
NULL we don't need to do _PPC change notification.

The acpi_get_bus_status wrapper for acpi_bus_get_status_handle has some
code to handle certain device quirks, in some cases we also need this
quirk handling for the initial _STA call.
Specifically on some devices calling _STA before all _DEP dependencies
are met results in errors like these:
[ 0.123579] ACPI Error: No handler for Region [ECRM] (00000000ba9edc4c)
[GenericSerialBus] (20170831/evregion-166)
[ 0.123601] ACPI Error: Region GenericSerialBus (ID=9) has no handler
(20170831/exfldio-299)
[ 0.123618] ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed
\_SB.I2C1.BAT1._STA, AE_NOT_EXIST (20170831/psparse-550)
acpi_get_bus_status already has code to avoid this, so by using it we
also silence these errors from the initial _STA call.
Note that in order for the acpi_get_bus_status handling for this to work,
we initialize dep_unmet to 1 until acpi_device_dep_initialize gets called,
this means that battery devices will be instantiated with an initial
status of 0. This is not a problem, acpi_bus_attach will get called soon
after the instantiation anyways and it will update the status as first
point of order.

The battery code uses acpi_device->dep_unmet to check for unmet deps and
if there are unmet deps it does not bind to the device to avoid errors
about missing OpRegions when calling ACPI methods on the device.
The missing OpRegions when there are unmet deps problem also applies to
the _STA method of some battery devices and calling it too early results
in errors like these:
[ 0.123579] ACPI Error: No handler for Region [ECRM] (00000000ba9edc4c)
[GenericSerialBus] (20170831/evregion-166)
[ 0.123601] ACPI Error: Region GenericSerialBus (ID=9) has no handler
(20170831/exfldio-299)
[ 0.123618] ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed
\_SB.I2C1.BAT1._STA, AE_NOT_EXIST (20170831/psparse-550)
This commit fixes these errors happening when acpi_get_bus_status gets
called by checking dep_unmet for battery devices and reporting a status
of 0 until all dependencies are met.

Pull poll annotations from Al Viro:
"This introduces a __bitwise type for POLL### bitmap, and propagates
the annotations through the tree. Most of that stuff is as simple as
'make ->poll() instances return __poll_t and do the same to local
variables used to hold the future return value'.
Some of the obvious brainos found in process are fixed (e.g. POLLIN
misspelled as POLL_IN). At that point the amount of sparse warnings is
low and most of them are for genuine bugs - e.g. ->poll() instance
deciding to return -EINVAL instead of a bitmap. I hadn't touched those
in this series - it's large enough as it is.
Another problem it has caught was eventpoll() ABI mess; select.c and
eventpoll.c assumed that corresponding POLL### and EPOLL### were
equal. That's true for some, but not all of them - EPOLL### are
arch-independent, but POLL### are not.
The last commit in this series separates userland POLL### values from
the (now arch-independent) kernel-side ones, converting between them
in the few places where they are copied to/from userland. AFAICS, this
is the least disruptive fix preserving poll(2) ABI and making epoll()
work on all architectures.
As it is, it's simply broken on sparc - try to give it EPOLLWRNORM and

Pull siginfo cleanups from Eric Biederman:
"Long ago when 2.4 was just a testing release copy_siginfo_to_user was
made to copy individual fields to userspace, possibly for efficiency
and to ensure initialized values were not copied to userspace.
Unfortunately the design was complex, it's assumptions unstated, and
humans are fallible and so while it worked much of the time that
design failed to ensure unitialized memory is not copied to userspace.
This set of changes is part of a new design to clean up siginfo and
simplify things, and hopefully make the siginfo handling robust enough
that a simple inspection of the code can be made to ensure we don't
copy any unitializied fields to userspace.
The design is to unify struct siginfo and struct compat_siginfo into a
single definition that is shared between all architectures so that
anyone adding to the set of information shared with struct siginfo can
see the whole picture. Hopefully ensuring all future si_code
assignments are arch independent.
The design is to unify copy_siginfo_to_user32 and
copy_siginfo_from_user32 so that those function are complete and cope
with all of the different cases documented in signinfo_layout. I don't
think there was a single implementation of either of those functions
that was complete and correct before my changes unified them.
The design is to introduce a series of helpers including
force_siginfo_fault that take the values that are needed in struct
siginfo and build the siginfo structure for their callers. Ensuring
struct siginfo is built correctly.
The remaining work for 4.17 (unless someone thinks it is post -rc1
material) is to push usage of those helpers down into the
architectures so that architecture specific code will not need to deal
with the fiddly work of intializing struct siginfo, and then when
struct siginfo is guaranteed to be fully initialized change copy
siginfo_to_user into a simple wrapper around copy_to_user.
Further there is work in progress on the issues that have been
documented requires arch specific knowledge to sort out.
The changes below fix or at least document all of the issues that have
been found with siginfo generation. Then proceed to unify struct
siginfo the 32 bit helpers that copy siginfo to and from userspace,
and generally clean up anything that is not arch specific with regards
to siginfo generation.
It is a lot but with the unification you can of siginfo you can
already see the code reduction in the kernel"

Centaur CPU has a constant frequency TSC and that TSC does not stop in
C-States. But because the corresponding TSC feature flags are not set for
that CPU, the TSC is treated as not constant frequency and assumed to stop
in C-States, which makes it an unreliable and unusable clock source.
Setting those flags tells the kernel that the TSC is usable, so it will
select it over HPET. The effect of this is that reading time stamps (from
kernel or user space) will be faster and more efficent.

acpi_lpss_create_device() skips handling LPSS devices which do not have
a mmio resources in their resource list (typically these devices are
disabled by the firmware). But since the LPSS code does not bind to the
device, acpi_bus_attach() ends up still creating a platform device for
it and the regular platform_driver for the ACPI HID still tries to bind
to it.
This happens e.g. on some boards which do not use the pwm-controller
and have an empty or invalid resource-table for it. Currently this causes
these error messages to get logged:
[ 3.281966] pwm-lpss 80862288:00: invalid resource
[ 3.287098] pwm-lpss: probe of 80862288:00 failed with error -22
This commit stops the undesirable creation of a platform_device for
disabled LPSS devices by setting pnp.type.platform_id to 0. Note that
acpi_scan_attach_handler() also sets pnp.type.platform_id to 0 when there
is a matching handler for the device and that handler has no attach
callback, so we simply behave as a handler without an attach function
in this case.

Some systems don't support the ACPI_LPS0_ENTRY and ACPI_LPS0_EXIT
functions in their Low Power S0 Idle _DSM, but still expect EC
events to be processed in the suspend-to-idle state for power button
wakeup (among other things) to work. Surface Pro3 turns out to be
one of them.
Fortunately, it still provides Low Power S0 Idle _DSM with the screen
on/off functions supported, so modify the ACPI suspend-to-idle to use
the Low Power S0 Idle code path for all systems supporting the
ACPI_LPS0_ENTRY and ACPI_LPS0_EXIT or the ACPI_LPS0_SCREEN_OFF and
ACPI_LPS0_SCREEN_ON functions in their Low Power S0 Idle _DSM.
Potentially, that will cause more systems to use suspend-to-idle by
default, so some future corrections may be necessary if it leads
to issues, but let it remain more straightforward for now.

Sometimes the user wants to have device name of the match rather than
just checking if device present or not. To make life easier for such
users introduce acpi_dev_get_first_match_name() helper based on code
for acpi_dev_present().
For example, GPIO driver for Intel Merrifield needs to know the device
name of pin control to be able to apply GPIO mapping table to the proper
device.
To be more consistent with the purpose rename
struct acpi_dev_present_info -> struct acpi_dev_match_info
acpi_dev_present_cb() -> acpi_dev_match_cb()
in the utils.c file.

We're seeing a lot of bogus backlight interfaces on newer machines without
a LCD such as desktops, servers and HDMI sticks. This causes userspace to
show a non-functional brightness slider in e.g. the GNOME3 system menu,
which is undesirable. And, in general, we should simply just not register
a non functional backlight interface.
Checking the LCD flag causes the bogus acpi_video backlight interfaces to
go away (on the machines this was tested on).
This change sets the lcd_only option by default on any machines which
are Win8-ready, to fix this.
This is not entirely without a risk of regressions, but video_detect.c
already prefers native-backlight interfaces over the acpi_video one
on Win8-ready machines, calling acpi_video_unregister_backlight() as soon
as a native interface shows up. This is done because the ACPI backlight
interface often is broken on Win8-ready machines, because win8 does not
seem to actually use it.
So in practice we already end up not registering the ACPI backlight
interface on (most) Win8-ready machines with a LCD panel, thus this
change does not change anything for (most) machines with a LCD panel
and on machines without a LCD panel we actually don't want to register
any backlight interfaces.
This has been tested on the following machines and fixes a bogus backlight
interface showing up there:
- Desktop with an Asrock B150M Pro4S/D3 m.b. using i5-6500 builtin gfx
- Intel Compute Stick STK1AW32SC
- Meegopad T08 HDMI stick
Bogus backlight interfaces have also been reported on:
- Desktop with Asus H87I-Plus m.b.
- Desktop with ASRock B75M-ITX m.b.
- Desktop with Gigabyte Z87-D3HP m.b.
- Dell PowerEdge T20 desktop

Pull libnvdimm fixes from Dan Williams:
"These fixes are all tagged for -stable and have received a build
success notification from the kbuild robot.
- NVDIMM namespaces, configured to enforce 1GB alignment, fail to
initialize on platforms that mis-align the start or end of the
physical address range.
- The Linux implementation of the BTT (Block Translation Table) is
incompatible with the UEFI 2.7 definition of the BTT format. The
BTT layers a software atomic sector semantic on top of an NVDIMM
namespace. Linux needs to be compatible with the UEFI definition to
enable boot support or any pre-OS access of data on a BTT enabled
namespace.
- A fix for ACPI SMART notification events, this allows a userspace
monitor to register for health events rather than poll. This has
been broken since it was initially merged as the unit test
inadvertently worked around the problem. The urgency for fixing
this during the -rc series is driven by how expensive it is to poll
for this data (System Management Mode entry)"

The commit f6f8285132 ("pstore: pass allocated memory region back to
caller") changed the check of the return value from erst_read() in
erst_reader() in the following way:
if (len == -ENOENT)
goto skip;
- else if (len < 0) {
- rc = -1;
+ else if (len < sizeof(*rcd)) {
+ rc = -EIO;
goto out;
This introduced another bug: since the comparison with sizeof() is
cast to unsigned, a negative len value doesn't hit any longer.
As a result, when an error is returned from erst_read(), the code
falls through, and it may eventually lead to some weird thing like
memory corruption.
This patch adds the negative error value check more explicitly for
addressing the issue.

Some GED interrupts could be pending by the time we are doing a reboot.
Even though GED driver uses devm_request_irq() to register the interrupt
handler, the handler is not being freed on time during a shutdown since
the driver is missing a shutdown callback.
If the ACPI handler is no longer available, this causes an interrupt
storm and delays shutdown.
1. Don't use devm family of functions for IRQ registration/free
2. Keep track of the events since free_irq() requires the dev_id
parameter passed into the request_irq() function.
3. Call free_irq() on both remove and shutdown explicitly.

The GP-electronic T701 tablet does not have a LID switch, but it
does define a LID device in its DSDT. The _LID method points to
the "\\_SB.GPO2" pin 0x18 GPIO with a pull setting of "PullDefault",
which leaves the pin floating.
This causes the ACPI button driver to cause spurious LID closed events,
causing the device to suspend while the user is using it. There is
nothing the ACPI button driver (or the gpio code) can do to fix this,
so the only solution is to add a DMI based blacklist and ignore the LID
device on these tablets.

Middle-layer code doing suspend-time optimizations for devices with
the DPM_FLAG_SMART_SUSPEND flag set (currently, the PCI bus type and

->thaw callbacks for those devices in some cases and it sets the
power.direct_complete flag for them for this purpose.
However, it turns out that setting power.direct_complete outside of
the PM core is a bad idea as it triggers an excess invocation of
pm_runtime_enable() in device_resume().
For this reason, provide a helper to clear power.is_late_suspended
and power.is_suspended to be invoked by the middle-layer code in
question instead of setting power.direct_complete and make that code
call the new helper.

There is a variable name mismatch in acpi_ut_strtoul_multiply64()
between the ACPICA code in the kernel and the corresponding upstream
code which may be problematic if changes to this particular piece of
code are made upstream and ported to Linux, so rename the variable
in question to match its name in the upstream code.

The ACPI code supporting system transitions to sleep states uses
an internal blacklist to apply special handling to some machines
reported to behave incorrectly in some ways.
However, some entries of that blacklist cover problematic as well as
non-problematic systems, so give the users of the latter a chance to
ignore the blacklist and run their systems in the default way by
adding acpi_sleep=nobl to the kernel command line.
For example, that allows the users of Dell XPS13 9360 systems not
affected by the issue that caused the blacklist entry for this
machine to be added by commit 71630b7a83 (ACPI / PM: Blacklist Low
Power S0 Idle _DSM for Dell XPS13 9360) to use suspend-to-idle with
the Low Power S0 Idle _DSM interface which in principle should be
more energy-efficient than S3 on them.

Add support for DPM_FLAG_LEAVE_SUSPENDED to the ACPI PM domain by
making it (a) set the power.may_skip_resume status bit for devices
that, from its perspective, may be left in suspend after system
wakeup from sleep and (b) return early from acpi_subsys_resume_noirq()
for devices whose remaining resume callbacks during the transition
under way are going to be skipped by the PM core.

ACPICA commit aa866a9b4f24bbec9f158d10325b486d7d12d90f
The declaration External (ABCD.EFGH) creates two nodes in the namespace: ABCD
and EFGH where ABCD is marked as an implicit external node. ABCD is labeled as
implicit because there does not exist a specific External (ABCD) declaration.
Before this change, the declaration External (ABCD.EFGH) and
External (ABCD.EFGH.IJKL) creates the namespace nodes ABCD, EFGH, and IJKL
where ABCD and EFGH are labeled as implicit external nodes. This is incorrect.
The only implicit node should be ABCD because EFGH and IJKL are explicit nodes.
This change fixes the labeling procecess of external op namespace nodes so that
nodes are properly labeled as implicit external.
Due to this commit, the below ASL code results in a compilation error.

ACPICA commit 9605023e7e6d1f05581502766c8cf2905bcc03d9
This patch implements a new infinite loop detection mechanism to replace
the old one, it uses acpi_os_get_timer() to limit loop execution into a
determined time slice.
This is useful in case some hardware/firmware operations really require the
AML interpreter to wait while the old mechanism could expire too fast on
recent machines.
The new mechanism converts old acpi_gbl_max_loop_iterations to store the user
configurable value for the new mechanism in order to allow users to be
still able to configure this value for acpiexec via command line. This
patch also removes wrong initilization code of acpi_gbl_max_loop_iterations
accordingly (it should have been initialized by ACPI_INIT_GLOBAL, and the
default value is also properly tuned for acpiexec). Reported by M. Foronda,
fixed by Lv Zheng.

In current implementation, SRAT Memory Affinity Structure table
parsing is restricted to number of maximum memblocks allowed
(NR_NODE_MEMBLKS). However NR_NODE_MEMBLKS is defined individually
as per architecture requirements. Hence removing the restriction of
SRAT Memory Affinity Structure parsing in ACPI driver code and
let architecture code check for allowed memblocks count.
This check is already there in the x86 code, so do the same on ia64.

On platforms (ASUS X550ZE and possibly all ASUS X series) with valid ECDT
EC but invalid DSDT EC, EC PM ops won't be invoked as ECDT EC is not an
ACPI device. Thus the following commit actually removed post-resume
acpi_ec_enable_event() invocation for such platforms, and triggered a
regression on them that after being resumed, EC (actually should be ECDT)
driver stops handling EC events:
Commit: c2b46d679b
Subject: ACPI / EC: Add PM operations to improve event handling for resume process
Notice that the root cause actually is "ECDT is not an ACPI device" rather
than "the timing of acpi_ec_enable_event() invocation", this patch fixes
this issue by enumerating ECDT EC as an ACPI device. Due to the existence
of the noirq stage, the ability of tuning the timing of
acpi_ec_enable_event() invocation is still meaningful.
This patch is a little bit different from the posted fix by moving
acpi_config_boot_ec() from acpi_ec_ecdt_start() to acpi_ec_add() to make
sure that EC event handling won't be stopped as long as the ACPI EC driver
is bound. Thus the following sequence shouldn't disable EC event handling:
unbind,suspend,resume,bind.

Most Bay and Cherry Trail devices use a generic DSDT with all possible
peripheral devices present in the DSDT, with their _STA returning 0x00 or
0x0f based on AML variables which describe what is actually present on
the board.
Since ACPI device objects with a 0x00 status (not present) still get an
entry under /sys/bus/acpi/devices, and those entry had an acpi:PNPID
modalias, userspace would end up loading modules for non present hardware.
This commit fixes this by leaving the modalias empty for non present
devices. This results in 10 modules less being loaded with a generic
distro kernel config on my Cherry Trail test-device (a GPD pocket).

Pull arm64 updates from Will Deacon:
"The big highlight is support for the Scalable Vector Extension (SVE)
which required extensive ABI work to ensure we don't break existing
applications by blowing away their signal stack with the rather large
new vector context (<= 2 kbit per vector register). There's further
work to be done optimising things like exception return, but the ABI
is solid now.
Much of the line count comes from some new PMU drivers we have, but
they're pretty self-contained and I suspect we'll have more of them in
future.

"This contains two bigger than usual tree-wide changes this time. They
all have proper acks, caused no merge conflicts in linux-next where
they have been for a while. They are namely:
- to-gpiod conversion of the i2c-gpio driver and its users (touching
arch/* and drivers/mfd/*)
- adding a sbs-manager based on I2C core updates to SMBus alerts
(touching drivers/power/*)
Other notable changes:
- i2c_boardinfo can now carry a dev_name to be used when the device
is created. This is because some devices in ACPI world need fixed
names to find the regulators.
- the designware driver got a long discussed overhaul of its PM
handling. img-scb and davinci got PM support, too.
- at24 driver has way better OF support. And it has a new maintainer.
Thanks Bartosz for stepping up!
The rest is regular driver updates and fixes"

Pull power management updates from Rafael Wysocki:
"There are no real big ticket items here this time.
The most noticeable change is probably the relocation of the OPP
(Operating Performance Points) framework to its own directory under
drivers/ as it has grown big enough for that. Also Viresh is now going
to maintain it and send pull requests for it to me, so you will see
this change in the git history going forward (but still not right
now).
Another noticeable set of changes is the modifications of the PM core,
the PCI subsystem and the ACPI PM domain to allow of more integration
between system-wide suspend/resume and runtime PM. For now it's just a
way to avoid resuming devices from runtime suspend unnecessarily
during system suspend (if the driver sets a flag to indicate its
readiness for that) and in the works is an analogous mechanism to
allow devices to stay suspended after system resume.
In addition to that, we have some changes related to supporting
frequency-invariant CPU utilization metrics in the scheduler and in
the schedutil cpufreq governor on ARM and changes to add support for
device performance states to the generic power domains (genpd)
framework.
The rest is mostly fixes and cleanups of various sorts.
Specifics:
- Relocate the OPP (Operating Performance Points) framework to its

Pull timer updates from Thomas Gleixner:
"Yet another big pile of changes:
- More year 2038 work from Arnd slowly reaching the point where we
need to think about the syscalls themself.
- A new timer function which allows to conditionally (re)arm a timer
only when it's either not running or the new expiry time is sooner
than the armed expiry time. This allows to use a single timer for
multiple timeout requirements w/o caring about the first expiry
time at the call site.
- A new NMI safe accessor to clock real time for the printk timestamp
work. Can be used by tracing, perf as well if required.
- A large number of timer setup conversions from Kees which got
collected here because either maintainers requested so or they
simply got ignored. As Kees pointed out already there are a few
trivial merge conflicts and some redundant commits which was
unavoidable due to the size of this conversion effort.
- Avoid a redundant iteration in the timer wheel softirq processing.
- Provide a mechanism to treat RTC implementations depending on their
hardware properties, i.e. don't inflict the write at the 0.5
seconds boundary which originates from the PC CMOS RTC to all RTCs.
No functional change as drivers need to be updated separately.
- The usual small updates to core code clocksource drivers. Nothing
really exciting"

Based on ACPI 6.2 Section 8.4.7.1.9 If the PCC register space is used,
all PCC registers, for all processors in the same performance domain
(as defined by _PSD), must be defined to be in the same subspace.
Based on Section 14.1 of ACPI specification, it is possible to have a
maximum of 256 PCC subspace IDs. Add support of multiple PCC subspace
ID instead of using a single global pcc_data structure.

ACPI _LID methods may depend on OpRegions and do not always handle
handlers for those OpRegions not being present properly e.g. :
Method (_LID, 0, NotSerialized) // _LID: Lid Status
{
If ((^^I2C5.PMI1.AVBL == One) && (^^GPO2.AVBL == One))
{
Return (^^GPO2.LPOL) /* \_SB_.GPO2.LPOL */
}
}
Note the missing Return (1) when either of the OpRegions is not available,
this causes (in this case) a report of the lid-switch being closed,
which causes userspace to do an immediate suspend at boot.
This commit delays getting the initial state and thus calling _LID for
the first time until userspace opens the /dev/input/event# node. This
ensures that all drivers will have had a chance to load and registerer
their OpRegions before the first _LID call, fixing this issue.

Originally the Samsung quirks removed by commit 4c237371 can be covered
by commit e923e8e7 and ec_freeze_events=Y mode. But commit 9c40f956
changed ec_freeze_events=Y back to N, making this problem re-surface.
Actually, if commit e923e8e7 is robust enough, we can freely change
ec_freeze_events mode, so this patch fixes the issue by improving
commit e923e8e7.

acpi_remove_pm_notifier() ends up calling flush_workqueue() while
holding acpi_pm_notifier_lock, and that same lock is taken by
by the work via acpi_pm_notify_handler(). This can deadlock.
To fix the problem let's split the single lock into two: one to
protect the dev->wakeup between the work vs. add/remove, and
another one to handle notifier installation vs. removal.
After commit a1d14934ea "workqueue/lockdep: 'Fix' flush_work()
annotation" I was able to kill the machine (Intel Braswell)
very easily with 'powertop --auto-tune', runtime suspending i915,
and trying to wake it up via the USB keyboard. The cases when
it didn't die are presumably explained by lockdep getting disabled
by something else (cpu hotplug locking issues usually).
Fortunately I still got a lockdep report over netconsole
(trickling in very slowly), even though the machine was
otherwise practically dead:

Make the ACPI PM domain take DPM_FLAG_SMART_SUSPEND into account in
its system suspend callbacks.
[Note that the pm_runtime_suspended() check in acpi_dev_needs_resume()
is an optimization, because if is not passed, all of the subsequent
checks may be skipped and some of them are much more overhead in
general.]
Also use the observation that if the device is in runtime suspend
at the beginning of the "late" phase of a system-wide suspend-like
transition, its state cannot change going forward (runtime PM is
disabled for it at that time) until the transition is over and the
subsequent system-wide PM callbacks should be skipped for it (as
they generally assume the device to not be suspended), so add
checks for that in acpi_subsys_suspend_late/noirq() and
acpi_subsys_freeze_late/noirq().
Moreover, if acpi_subsys_resume_noirq() is called during the
subsequent system-wide resume transition and if the device was left
in runtime suspend previously, its runtime PM status needs to be
changed to "active" as it is going to be put into the full-power
state going forward, so add a check for that too in there.
In turn, if acpi_subsys_thaw_noirq() runs after the device has been
left in runtime suspend, the subsequent "thaw" callbacks need
to be skipped for it (as they may not work correctly with a
suspended device), so set the power.direct_complete flag for the
device then to make the PM core skip those callbacks.
On top of the above, make the analogous changes in the acpi_lpss
driver that uses the ACPI PM domain callbacks.

Acked-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org>
The motivation for this change is to provide a way to work around
a problem with the direct-complete mechanism used for avoiding
system suspend/resume handling for devices in runtime suspend.
The problem is that some middle layer code (the PCI bus type and
the ACPI PM domain in particular) returns positive values from its
system suspend ->prepare callbacks regardless of whether the driver's
->prepare returns a positive value or 0, which effectively prevents
drivers from being able to control the direct-complete feature.
Some drivers need that control, however, and the PCI bus type has
grown its own flag to deal with this issue, but since it is not
limited to PCI, it is better to address it by adding driver flags at
the core level.
To that end, add a driver_flags field to struct dev_pm_info for flags
that can be set by device drivers at the probe time to inform the PM
core and/or bus types, PM domains and so on on the capabilities and/or
preferences of device drivers. Also add two static inline helpers
for setting that field and testing it against a given set of flags
and make the driver core clear it automatically on driver remove
and probe failures.
Define and document two PM driver flags related to the direct-
complete feature: NEVER_SKIP and SMART_PREPARE that can be used,
respectively, to indicate to the PM core that the direct-complete
mechanism should never be used for the device and to inform the
middle layer code (bus types, PM domains etc) that it can only
request the PM core to use the direct-complete mechanism for
the device (by returning a positive value from its ->prepare
callback) if it also has been requested by the driver.
While at it, make the core check pm_runtime_suspended() when
setting power.direct_complete so that it doesn't need to be
checked by ->prepare callbacks.

Revert "x86/mm: Stop calling leave_mm() in idle code"
This reverts commit 43858b4f25.
The reason I removed the leave_mm() calls in question is because the
heuristic wasn't needed after that patch. With the original version
of my PCID series, we never flushed a "lazy cpu" (i.e. a CPU running
kernel thread) due a flush on the loaded mm.
Unfortunately, that caused architectural issues, so now I've
reinstated these flushes on non-PCID systems in:
commit b956575bed ("x86/mm: Flush more aggressively in lazy TLB mode").
That, in turn, gives us a power management and occasionally
performance regression as compared to old kernels: a process that
goes into a deep idle state on a given CPU and gets its mm flushed
due to activity on a different CPU will wake the idle CPU.
Reinstate the old ugly heuristic: if a CPU goes into ACPI C3 or an
intel_idle state that is likely to cause a TLB flush gets its mm
switched to init_mm before going idle.
FWIW, this heuristic is lousy. Whether we should change CR3 before
idle isn't a good hint except insofar as the performance hit is a bit
lower if the TLB is getting flushed by the idle code anyway. What we
really want to know is whether we anticipate being idle long enough
that the mm is likely to be flushed before we wake up. This is more a
matter of the expected latency than the idle state that gets chosen.
This heuristic also completely fails on systems that don't know
whether the TLB will be flushed (e.g. AMD systems?). OTOH it may be a
bit obsolete anyway -- PCID systems don't presently benefit from this
heuristic at all.
We also shouldn't do this callback from innermost bit of the idle code
due to the RCU nastiness it causes. All the information need is
available before rcu_idle_enter() needs to happen.

Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which
makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license.
By default all files without license information are under the default
license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2.
Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0'
SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding
shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.
This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and
Philippe Ombredanne.
How this work was done:
Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of
the use cases:
- file had no licensing information it it.
- file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it,
- file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information,
Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases
where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license
had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords.
The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to
a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the
output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX
tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the
base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files.
The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files
assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner
results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s)
to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not
immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was:
- Files considered eligible had to be source code files.
- Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5
lines of source
- File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5
lines).
All documentation files were explicitly excluded.
The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license
identifiers to apply.
- when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was
considered to have no license information in it, and the top level
COPYING file license applied.
For non */uapi/* files that summary was:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|-------
GPL-2.0 11139
and resulted in the first patch in this series.
If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH
Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|-------
GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930
and resulted in the second patch in this series.
- if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one
of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if
any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in
it (per prior point). Results summary:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|------
GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270
GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17
LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15
GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14
((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5
LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4
LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1
and that resulted in the third patch in this series.
- when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became
the concluded license(s).
- when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a
license but the other didn't, or they both detected different
licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred.
- In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file
resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and
which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics).
- When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was
confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
- If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier,
the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later
in time.
In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the
spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the
source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation
by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from
FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners
disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The
Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so
they are related.
Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets
for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the
files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks
in about 15000 files.
In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the
correct identifier.
Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual
inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch
version early this week with:
- a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected
license ids and scores
- reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+
files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
- reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license
was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied
SPDX license was correct
This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This
worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the
different types of files to be modified.
These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the
format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg
based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different
comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to
generate the patches.

Unfortunately the GPD pocket uses the exact same DMI strings as the win
