Merge series from Peter Ujfalusi <peter.ujfalusi@linux.intel.com>:
The following series will enable multi-stream support for playback and capture
streams.
Currently only a single PCM can be connected to a DAI, with the multi-stream
support it is possible to connect multiple PCMs to a single DAI.
To achieve this we need to make sure that DAIs/AIF are only set up once since
other stream could be connected to it later.
We also need to introduce reference or use counting for widgets to make sure
that they are not going to be destroyed while other streams are still using
them.
With the multi-stream support we also need to extend our current locking scheme
which worked well for simple paths.
The uevent() callback in struct bus_type should not be modifying the
device that is passed into it, so mark it as a const * and propagate the
function signature changes out into all relevant subsystems that use
this callback.

When the new style KAE keep-alive implementation is used on compatible
Intel hardware, the clocks are maintained when codec is in D3. The
generic code in hda_cleanup_all_streams() can however interfere with
generation of audio samples in this mode, by setting the stream and
channel ids to zero.
To get full benefit of the keepalive, set the new
no_stream_clean_at_suspend quirk bit on affected Intel hardware. When
this bit is set, stream cleanup is skipped in hda_call_codec_suspend().
Special handling is needed for the case when system goes to suspend. The
stream id programming can be lost in this case. This will also cause
codec->cvt_setups to be out of sync. Handle this by implementing custom
suspend/resume handlers. If keep-alive is active for any converter, set
the quirk flags no_stream_clean_at_suspend and forced_resume. Upon
resume, keepalive programming is restored if needed.

request, the bulk of these are fixes, minor cleanups or new board quirks
- the one big bit that isn't is support for getting diagnostic data out

This is a fairly sedate release for the core code, but there's been a
lot of driver work especially around the x86 platforms and device tree
updates:
- More cleanups of the DAPM code from Morimoto-san.
- Factoring out of mapping hw_params onto SoundWire configuration by
Charles Keepax.
- The ever ongoing overhauls of the Intel DSP code continue, including
support for loading libraries and probes with IPC4 on SOF.
- Support for more sample formats on JZ4740.
- Lots of device tree conversions and fixups.
- Support for Allwinner D1, a range of AMD and Intel systems, Mediatek
systems with multiple DMICs, Nuvoton NAU8318, NXP fsl_rpmsg and
i.MX93, Qualcomm AudioReach Enable, MFC and SAL, RealTek RT1318 and
Rockchip RK3588
There's more cross tree updates than usual, though all fairly minor:
- Some OMAP board file updates that were depedencies for removing their
providers in ASoC, as part of a wider effort removing the support for
the relevant OMAP platforms.
- A new I2C API required for updates to the new I2C probe API.
- A DRM update making use of a new API for fixing the capabilities
advertised via hdmi-codec.

Merge series from Mark Brown <broonie@kernel.org>:
The recently added pcm-test selftest has pointed out that systems with
the tda998x driver end up advertising that they support capture when in
reality as far as I can see the tda998x devices are transmit only. The
DAIs registered through hdmi-codec are bidirectional, meaning that for
I2S systems when combined with a typical bidrectional CPU DAI the
overall capability of the PCM is bidirectional. In most cases the I2S
links will clock OK but no useful audio will be returned which isn't so
bad but we should still not advertise the useless capability, and some
systems may notice problems for example due to pinmux management.
This is happening due to the hdmi-codec helpers not providing any
mechanism for indicating unidirectional audio so add one and use it in
the tda998x driver. It is likely other hdmi-codec users are also
affected but I don't have those systems to hand.

Currently the hdmi-codec driver always registers both playback and capture
capabilities but for most systems there's no actual capture capability,
usually HDMI is transmit only. Provide platform data which allows the users
to indicate what is supported so that we don't end up advertising things
to userspace that we can't actually support.
In order to avoid breaking existing users the flags in platform data are
a bit awkward and specify what should be disabled rather than doing the
perhaps more expected thing and defaulting to not supporting capture.

Originally in commit b2ebcf42a4 ("ASoC: SOF: free widgets in
sof_tear_down_pipelines() for static pipelines"), freeing of pipeline
components at suspend was only done with recent FW as there were known
limitations in older firmware versions.
Tests show that if static pipelines are used, i.e. all pipelines are
setup whenever firmware is powered up, the reverse action of freeing all
components at power down, leads to firmware failures with also SOF2.0
and SOF2.1 based firmware.
The problems can be specific to certain topologies with e.g. components
not prepared to be freed at suspend (as this did not happen with older
SOF kernels).
To avoid hitting these problems when kernel is upgraded and used with an
older firmware, bump the firmware requirement to SOF2.2 or newer. If an
older firmware is used, and pipeline is a static one, do not free the
components at suspend. This ensures the suspend flow remains backwards
compatible with older firmware versions. This limitation does not apply
if the product configuration is updated to dynamic pipelines.
The limitation is not linked to firmware ABI, as the interface to free
pipeline components has been available already before ABI3.19. The
problem is in the implementation, so firmware version should be used to
decide whether it is safe to use the newer flow or not. This patch adds
a new SOF_FW_VER() macro to compare SOF firmware release versions.

Implement suspend/resume() operations for component drivers. For most
scenarios, the PM flow is similar to standard streaming one, except for
the part where the position register are being saved and the lack of PCM
pages freeing. To reduce code duplication, all avs_dai_suspend_XXX() and
avs_dai_resume_XXX() functions reuse their non-PM equivalents.
Given that path binding/unbinding happens only in FE part of the stream,
the order of suspend() goes:
1. hw_free() all FE DAIs, paths are unbound here
2. hw_free() all BE DAIs
Consequently, for resume() its:
1. hw_params() all BE DAIs
2. hw_params() all FE DAIs, paths are bound here
3. prepare() all BE DAIs
4. prepare() all FE DAIs
As component->suspend/resume() do not provide substream pointer, store
it ourselves so that the PM flow has all the necessary information to
proceed.

ASoC: Fixes for v6.1
Quite a few fixes here, a lot driver specific, plus some new quirks.
There was a bit of a mess with the runtime PM handling due to some
confusion in the API there which resulted in a number of commits and
reverts but that should all be stable now.
Merge series from Peter Ujfalusi <peter.ujfalusi@linux.intel.com>:
In IPC4 all DSP loadable executable is a 'library' containing modules. The main
or basefw is also a library which contains multiple modules.
IPC4 allows to use loadable libraries to extend the functionality of the booted
basefw.
This series adds support for loading external libraries in case they are needed
by the loaded topology file.
The libraries must be placed to a specific firmware directory (fw_lib_prefix),
which is:
intel/avs-lib|sof-ipc4-lib/ followed by the platform name and in case of
community key use a 'community' directory.
For example for upx-i11 (community key): intel/avs-lib/tgl/community is the
default path.
The name of the library should be the UUID of the module it contains since the
library loading is going to look for the file as <module_UUID>.bin
In case there is a need to bundle multiple modules into single library, symlinks
can be used to point to the file:
module_boundle.bin
<UUID1>.bin -> module_boundle.bin
<UUID2>.bin -> module_boundle.bin
<UUID3>.bin -> module_boundle.bin
But note that in this case all modules will be loaded to the DSP since only the
whole library can be loaded, not individual modules.
On Intel HDA platforms the library loading is done via DMA and an IPC
message is also need to be sent to initiate the downloading of the new
library.

IPC4 based firmware supports dynamically loaded external libraries.
The libraries will be not stored alongside of the firmware or tplg files.
For intel platforms the default path will be:
intel/avs-lib|sof-ipc4-lib/<platform>/ if a community key is used on the
given machine then the libraries will be under 'community' directory, like
it is done for the firmware itself.

The SPIB and DRMS capabilities are orthogonal to the DSP enablement
and can be used whether the stream is coupled or not.
The existing code partitioning makes limited sense, the capabilities
are parsed at the sound/hda level but helpers are located in
sound/hda/ext.
This patch moves all the SPIB/DRMS functionality to the sound/hda
layer. This reduces the complexity of the sound/hda/ext layer which is
now limited to handling the multi-link extensions and stream
coupling/decoupling helpers.
Note that this is an iso-functionality code move and rename, the
HDaudio legacy driver would need additional changes to make use of
these capabilities.

All the helpers dealing with multi-link configurations are located in
the hdac_ext_controller.c, except the two set/clear routines that

For consistency, move the two helpers and add the 'bus' prefix. One

be a larger code change.

The patchset fixes:

- incorrectly represented dB values in alsamixer, et al.
- incorrect represented Capture input selector in alsamixer
in Playback tab.
- wrong control selected as Capture Master
The "convert-xxx" properties only have an effect for DPCM DAI links.
A DAI link is only created as DPCM if the device tree requires it;
part of this involves checking for the use of "convert-xxx" properties.
When the convert-sample-format property was added, the checks got out
of sync. A DAI link that specified only convert-sample-format but did
not pass any of the other DPCM checks would not go into DPCM mode and
the convert-sample-format property would be silently ignored.
Fix this by adding a function to do the "convert-xxx" property checks,
instead of open-coding it in simple-card and audio-graph-card. And add
"convert-sample-format" to the check function so that DAI links using
it will be initialized correctly.

In the PCM core and driver code, there are lots place referring to the
current PCM state via runtime->status->state. This patch introduced a
local PCM state in runtime itself and replaces those references with
runtime->state. It has improvements in two aspects:
- The reduction of a indirect access leads to more code optimization
- It avoids a possible (unexpected) modification of the state via mmap
of the status record
The status->state is updated together with runtime->state, so that
user-space can still read the current state via mmap like before,
too.
This patch touches only the ALSA core code. The changes in each
driver will follow in later patches.

Per discussion on the alsa-devel mailing list [1], the legacy PIN to PCM
device mapping is obsolete nowadays. The maximum number of the simultaneously
usable PCM devices is equal to the HDMI codec converters.
Remove the extra PCM devices (beyond the detected converters) and force
the use of the dynamic PCM device allocation. The legacy code is removed.
I believe that all HDMI codecs have the jack sensing feature. Move the check
to the codec probe function and print a warning, if a codec without this
feature is detected.

Merge series from Martin Povišer <povik+lin@cutebit.org>:
there's a CS42L83 headphone jack codec found in Apple computers (in the
recent 'Apple Silicon' ones as well as in earlier models, one example
[1]). The part isn't publicly documented, but it appears almost
identical to CS42L42, for which we have a driver in kernel. This series
adapts the CS42L42 driver to the new part, and makes one change in
anticipation of a machine driver for the Apple computers.
Patch 1 adds new compatible to the cs42l42 schema.
Patches 2 to 7 are taken from Richard's recent series [2] adding
soundwire support to cs42l42. They are useful refactorings to build on
in the later patches, and also this way our work doesn't diverge.
(I fixed missing free_irq path in cs42l42_init, did
s/Soundwire/SoundWire/ in changelogs, rebased.)
Patch 8 exports some regmap-related symbols from cs42l42.c so they can
be used to create cs42l83 regmap in cs42l83-i2c.c later.
Patch 9 is the cs42l83 support proper.
Patch 10 implements 'set_bclk_ratio' on the cs42l42 core. This will be
called by the upcoming ASoC machine driver for 'Apple Silicon' Macs.
(We have touched on this change to be made in earlier discussion, see
[3] and replies.)
Patch 11 brings cs42l42-i2c.c in sync with cs42l83-i2c.c on
dev_err_probe() usage.
SOF topologies hard-code the MCLK used for SSP connections. That was a
bad idea in hindsight, this information should really come from BIOS
and/or machine driver.
This patch introduces a helper to scan all SSP endpoints connected to
a codec, and all formats to see what MCLK is used. When BIT(0) of the
mdivc offset if set in the SSP blob, MCLK0 is used, and likewise when
BIT(1) is set MCLK1 is used.
The case where both MCLKs are used is possible but has never been seen
in practice so should be treated as an error by the caller.

it is identical to CS42L42 except for two points:
* The chip ID is different.
* Of those registers for which we have a default value in the existing

ALSA: Drop hackish GFP giveaway for CONTINUOUS pages
This is a series of cleanup patches for dropping the current hackish
way of passing the GFP_* flags for CONTINOUS and VMALLOC memory
allocations. There are only three users for this legacy feature, and
all of them seem superfluous. And, if any driver requires the memory
restriction in future, it can now pass the proper device pointer for
specifying the DMA mask.

Now that all users of snd_dma_continuous_data() is gone, let's drop
this ugly (and dangerous) way.
After this commit, SNDRV_DMA_TYPE_CONTINUOUS may take the standard
device pointer instead of the hacked pointer by the macro above, and
the memalloc core refers to the coherent_dma_mask of the given
device like other SNDRV_DMA_TYPE. It's still allowed to pass NULL
there, and in that case, the allocation is performed always in the
normal zone.
For SNDRV_DMA_TYPE_VMALLOC, the device pointer is simply ignored.

From current design in sof_machine_check and snd_sof_new_platform_drv,
the SOF can only support ACPI type machine.
1. In sof_machine_check if there is no ACPI machine exist, the function
will return -ENODEV directly, that's we don't expected if we do not
base on ACPI machine.
2. In snd_sof_new_platform_drv the component driver need a driver name
to do ignore_machine, currently the driver name is obtained from
machine->drv_name, and the type of machine is snd_soc_acpi_mach.
So we add a new function named sof_of_machine_select that we can pass
sof_machine_check and obtain info required by snd_sof_new_platform_drv.

For avoiding the potential deadlock via kill_fasync() call, use the
new fasync helpers to defer the invocation from the control API. Note
that it's merely a workaround.
Another note: although we haven't received reports about the deadlock
with the control API, the deadlock is still potentially possible, and
it's better to align the behavior with other core APIs (PCM and
timer); so let's move altogether.

Currently the call of kill_fasync() from an interrupt handler might
lead to potential spin deadlocks, as spotted by syzkaller.
Unfortunately, it's not so trivial to fix this lock chain as it's
involved with the tasklist_lock that is touched in allover places.
As a temporary workaround, this patch provides the way to defer the
async signal notification in a work. The new helper functions,
snd_fasync_helper() and snd_kill_faync() are replacements for
fasync_helper() and kill_fasync(), respectively. In addition,
snd_fasync_free() needs to be called at the destructor of the relevant
file object.

Historically, the legacy DAI naming scheme was applied to platform
drivers and the newer scheme to CODEC drivers. During componentisation
the core lost the knowledge of if a driver was a CODEC or platform, they
were all now components. To continue to support the legacy naming on
older platform drivers a flag was added to the snd_soc_component_driver
structure, non_legacy_dai_naming, to indicate to use the new scheme and
this was applied to all CODECs as part of the migration.
However, a slight issue appears to be developing with respect to this
flag being opt in for the non-legacy scheme, which presumably we want to
be the primary scheme used. Many codec drivers appear to forget to
include this flag:
grep -l -r "snd_soc_component_driver" sound/soc/codecs/*.c |
xargs grep -L "non_legacy_dai_naming" | wc
48 48 556
It would seem more sensible to change the flag to legacy_dai_naming
making the new scheme opt out. As a first step this patch adds a new
flag for this so that the users can be updated.

The control elements are managed in a single linked list and we
traverse the whole list for matching each numid or ctl id per every
inquiry of a control element. This is OK-ish for a small number of
elements but obviously it doesn't scale. Especially the matching with
the ctl id takes time because it checks each field of the snd_ctl_id
element, e.g. the name string is matched with strcmp().
This patch adds the hash tables with Xarray for improving the lookup
speed of a control element. There are two xarray tables added to the
card; one for numid and another for ctl id. For the numid, we use the
numid as the index, while for the ctl id, we calculate a hash key.
The lookup is done via a single xa_load() execution. As long as the
given control element is found on the Xarray table, that's fine, we
can give back a quick lookup result. The problem is when no entry
hits on the table, and for this case, we have a slight optimization.
Namely, the driver checks whether we had a collision on Xarray table,
and do a fallback search (linear lookup of the full entries) only if a
hash key collision happened beforehand.
So, in theory, the inquiry for a non-existing element might take still
time even with this patch in a worst case, but this must be pretty
rare.
The feature is enabled via CONFIG_SND_CTL_FAST_LOOKUP, which is turned
on as default. For simplicity, the option can be turned off only when
CONFIG_EXPERT is set ("You are expert? Then you manage 1000 knobs").

with respect to the CODEC. This made sense when the framework was
directly broken down into platforms and CODECs. However, as things
are now broken down into components which can be connected as either
the CPU or CODEC side of a DAI link it simplifies things if each
side of the link is just told if it is provider or consumer of the
clocks. Making this change allows us to remove one of the last parts
of the ASoC core that needs to know if a driver is a CODEC driver,
where it flips the clock format specifier if a CODEC driver is used on
the CPU side of a DAI link, as well as just being conceptually more
consistent with componentisation.
The basic idea of this patch chain is to change the set_fmt callback
from specifying if the CODEC is provider/consumer into directly
specifying if the component is provider/consumer. To do this we add
some new defines, and then to preserve bisectability, the migration is
done by adding a new callback, converting over all existing CPU side
drivers, converting the core, and then finally reverting back to the
old callback.
Converting the platform drivers makes sense as the existing defines
are from the perspective of the CODEC and there are more CODEC drivers
than platform drivers.
Obviously a fair amount of this patch chain I was only able to build
test, so any testing that can be done would be greatly appreciated.
asoc_simple_clean_reference() returns zero unconditionally. Letting it
return void instead makes it easier to see in the caller that there is no
error to handle.
This is a preparation for making platform remove callbacks return void.

From there on is a range of boards appended. All of them follow the same:
This series focuses on populating boards/ subdirectory with supported
configurations by the avs-driver. Note: it is independent of recently
provided "Driver code and PCM operations" series [1], that is, code
found here should not collide with it.
Series starts with a small change that adds a helper to sound pcm
header, allowing for retrieving string naming a direction without the
need of substream pointer. Said helper is used by codec driver code that
follows it but I believe it's generic and helpful enough that it can be
called an independent addition to the sound core.
Code for generic HD-Audio codec driver follows. It is a ASoC wrapper for
existing HD-Audio codec code found in sound/pci/hda/. There is basically
no custom logic involved up to the point that driver follows
HDA_DEV_LEGACY convention, rather than the HDA_DEV_ASOC one. Commit
message for the given patch iterates on this and explains crucial parts
of the implementation.
From there on is a range of boards appended. All of them follow the same
scheme:
- define avs_create_dai_link() so DAI-LINKs can be created dynamically,
based on the link_mask (I2S) or the number of entries in the
->pcm_list_head list (HDA)
- define avs_create_dapm_routes() so DAPM routes can be created
dynamically, same rules as above apply
- define probe() function that creates new ASoC card, assign all
required operations and resources along with calling the two above
Changes in v2:
- 'link_mask' usage replaced with 'i2s_link_mask' as requested by
Pierre
- 'ssp_test' board renamed to 'i2s_test' to match naming convention used
for other i2s machine boards
- enriched commit message and Kconfig for the 'HD-Audio codec driver'
patch as requested by Kai

Small updates to add initial tables for MeteorLake, SoundWire machine
driver support for tests without HDMI and RT1019 for consistency on
Chromebooks.
Since the CS35L41 HDA driver also support hibernation, it
makes sense to move code from the ASoC driver to enter
hibernation into common code.
Since HDA must support laptops which do not support hibernation
due to lack of external boost GPIO it is necessary to
ensure the function returns an error when an unsupported
boost type is in use.

The helper function snd_soc_component_is_codec is based off the
presence of the non_legacy_dai_naming flag. This isn't super robust
as CPU side components may also specify this flag, and indeed the
kernel already contains a couple that do. After componentisation there
isn't really a totally robust solution to identifying what is a CODEC
driver, without introducing a flag specifically for that purpose, and
really the desirable direction to move in is that the distinction
doesn't matter.
This patch does two things to try to mitigate these problems. Firstly,
now that all the other users of the helper function have been removed,
it makes the helper function local to the driver rather, than being
part of the core. This should help to discourage any new code from
being created that depends on the CODEC driver distinction. Secondly,
it updates the helper function itself to use the endianness flag
rather than the non_legacy_dai_naming flag. The endianness flag is
definitely invalid on a CPU side component, so it a more reliable
indicator that the device is definitely a CODEC. The vast majority of
buses require the CODEC to set the endianness flag, so the number of
corner cases should be fairly minimal. It is worth noting that CODECs
sending audio over SPI, or built into the CPU CODECs are potential
corner cases, however the hope is that in most cases those types of
devices do not consitute a simple audio card.

with respect to the CODEC. This made sense when the framework was
directly broken down into platforms and CODECs. Now everything is
componentised it simplifies things if each side of the link is
just told if it is provider or consumer of the clocks. To start
this migration add a new callback that can be used to receive a
direct specification of clocking. As there are more CODEC drivers
than platform drivers, we make the new flags identical to the old
CODEC flags meaning CODEC drivers will not require an update.

several rebases before the merge window as bugs were found, so they
remained separate.
This has to touch a lot of drivers, in particular the touchscreen,
pcmcia, sound and clk bits, to detach the driver files from the
platform and board specific header files.

However current implementation updates host stream position only when
report data is larger than or equal to host period size which is decided
by the period size of host side. It maybe cause host stream position
update not in time. Therefore this patch introduces another field
"cont_update_posn", a boolean value aimed to update host stream position
continuously and based on period size of pipeline. It can get better
precise when need to update host stream position from firmware.

Merge series from Pierre-Louis Bossart <pierre-louis.bossart@linux.intel.com>:
With additional tests with the introduction of a 'deep-buffer' PCM
device mixed with the regular low-latency path, we came up with two
improvements in the BE state machine and transitions. The short
explanation is that the BE cannot directly use the trigger commands
provided by the FE, and a translation is needed to deal with paused
states.
Commit 3aa1e96a2b ("ASoC: soc-pcm: fix BE handling of PAUSE_RELEASE")
did not modify the existing logic and kept the same logic for the following
transition
play FE1 -> BE state is START
pause FE1 -> BE state is PAUSED
play FE2 -> BE state is START
stop FE2 -> BE state is STOP <<< !!
release FE1 -> BE state is START
stop FE1 -> BE state is STOP
At the time it was identified by reviewers that a better solution
might consist in
play FE1 -> BE state is START
pause FE1 -> BE state is PAUSED
play FE2 -> BE state is START
stop FE2 -> BE state is PAUSE <<< !!
release FE1 -> BE state is START
stop FE1 -> BE state is STOP
This patch suggest a transition to PAUSE when all the 'active' streams
are paused. This would allow for a more consistent resource management
for platforms where PAUSE and STOP are handled differently.
To track the special case of an FE going from PAUSE_PUSH to STOP, we
add a state variable for each FE context. This 'fe_pause' boolean is
set on PAUSE_PUSH and cleared on either PAUSE_RELEASE and STOP
triggers.

Now that we start having multiple platforms with minor variants, the
use of the const qualifier for 'dsp_ops' is starting to be
sub-optimal: the structures are copied across platforms, with only a
couple of members that differ.
This patch removes the const qualifier without any functionality
changes, and adds an optional initialization callback. In follow-up
patches, the dsp_ops will revisited for Intel HDaudio platforms, with
the differences added programmatically over a common baseline.

This patch adds a default IPC type for each platform, along with file
paths to be used for each IPC type. To make reviews simpler, we only
modify platform descriptors in this table, the information will be
used in the next patch.
The Intel IPCv4 is only supported on Intel platforms after APL, and
not by default. In follow-up patches, support for SKL and KBL will be
added, and in those two cases the IPCv4 will be the default (and only

snd_soc_card_jack_new() allowed to create jack kcontrol without pins,
but did not create kcontrols. The jack would not have kcontrols if pins
were not going to be added.
This renames the old snd_soc_card_jack_new() to
snd_soc_card_jack_new_pins() for use when pins are provided or will be
added later. The new snd_soc_card_jack_new() appropriately creates a
jack for use without pins and adds a kcontrol.

The recent change for memory allocator replaced the SG-buffer handling
helper for x86 with the standard non-contiguous page handler. This
works for most cases, but there is a corner case I obviously
overlooked, namely, the fallback of non-contiguous handler without
IOMMU. When the system runs without IOMMU, the core handler tries to
use the continuous pages with a single SGL entry. It works nicely for
most cases, but when the system memory gets fragmented, the large
allocation may fail frequently.
Ideally the non-contig handler could deal with the proper SG pages,
it's cumbersome to extend for now. As a workaround, here we add new
types for (minimalistic) SG allocations, instead, so that the
allocator falls back to those types automatically when the allocation
with the standard API failed.
BTW, one better (but pretty minor) improvement from the previous
SG-buffer code is that this provides the proper mmap support without
the PCM's page fault handling.

This is a small helper function to handle the error path more easily
when an error happens during the probe for the device with the
device-managed card. Since devres releases in the reverser order of
the creations, usually snd_card_free() gets called at the last in the
probe error path unless it already reached snd_card_register() calls.
Due to this nature, when a driver expects the resource releases in
card->private_free, this might be called too lately.
As a workaround, one should call the probe like:
static int __some_probe(...) { // do real probe.... }
static int some_probe(...)
{
return snd_card_free_on_error(dev, __some_probe(dev, ...));
}
so that the snd_card_free() is called explicitly at the beginning of
the error path from the probe.
This function will be used in the upcoming fixes to address the
regressions by devres usages.

HDA Jack detection logic doesn't work when the HDACODEC
in runtime suspended state as unsol event won't be triggered
during D3 state. As pulseaudio server in userspace rely on the
jack mixer control status to show the audio devices in gui and
any display sink device hotplug event during D3 state will never
updates the jack status which will result in no audio device option
available in userspace settings.
The possible option available to resolve this issue is to run Jack
polling worker thread even after codec suspend state. The choice can
be made based on compromise between power saving or Jack detection in
suspend state.

Add a helper function snd_soc_tdm_params_to_bclk() to calculate
the bclk from params info and the tdm sots configuration.
When using a TDM frame of N slots of width W bits:
bclk = sample_rate * N * W
As a convenience to simplify calling code, if the slot count or
slot width are 0 a value will be obtained from the params. This
allows calling code to use this one function to handle cases of
TDM where only one parameter is fixed, or I2S where the slot width
is fixed (for example to set a 32-bit slot for 24-bit samples).
Also as a convenience the slot count can optionally be rounded up
to a multiple. This is mainly useful for I2S systems, since I2S has
two phases of LRCLK the number of slots is always a multiple of 2.

syzbot caught a potential deadlock between the PCM
runtime->buffer_mutex and the mm->mmap_lock. It was brought by the
recent fix to cover the racy read/write and other ioctls, and in that
commit, I overlooked a (hopefully only) corner case that may take the
revert lock, namely, the OSS mmap. The OSS mmap operation
exceptionally allows to re-configure the parameters inside the OSS
mmap syscall, where mm->mmap_mutex is already held. Meanwhile, the
copy_from/to_user calls at read/write operations also take the
mm->mmap_lock internally, hence it may lead to a AB/BA deadlock.
A similar problem was already seen in the past and we fixed it with a
refcount (in commit b248371628). The former fix covered only the
call paths with OSS read/write and OSS ioctls, while we need to cover
the concurrent access via both ALSA and OSS APIs now.
This patch addresses the problem above by replacing the buffer_mutex
lock in the read/write operations with a refcount similar as we've
used for OSS. The new field, runtime->buffer_accessing, keeps the
number of concurrent read/write operations. Unlike the former
buffer_mutex protection, this protects only around the
copy_from/to_user() calls; the other codes are basically protected by
the PCM stream lock. The refcount can be a negative, meaning blocked
by the ioctls. If a negative value is seen, the read/write aborts
with -EBUSY. In the ioctl side, OTOH, they check this refcount, too,
and set to a negative value for blocking unless it's already being
accessed.

Currently we have neither proper check nor protection against the

those racy calls.
This patch introduced a new mutex, runtime->buffer_mutex, and applies
it to both hw_params and hw_free ioctl code paths. Along with it, the
both functions are slightly modified (the mmap_count check is moved
into the state-check block) for code simplicity.

but nothing too groundbreaking but not much on the core itself:
- Start of moving SoF to support multiple IPC mechanisms.
- Use of NHLT ACPI table to reduce the amount of quirking required for

To allow for more flexibility i.e. populating component DAIs dynamically
during its initialization, without being limited to topology loading
procedure, expose snd_soc_register(), snd_soc_dapm_new_dai_widgets() and
snd_soc_dapm_free_widget() functions.
Allows users to first check available resources e.g. number of PCMs
supported by HDAudio codec before allocating the number of DAPM
widgets needed. This prevents superfluous objects from being created or
allows driver to adjust to situation when resources are limited.

Merge series from Ranjani Sridharan <ranjani.sridharan@linux.intel.com>:
In preparation for adding support for the new IPC version that has been
introduced in the SOF firmware, this patch set includes some clean ups
and necessary modifications to commonly used functions that will be
re-used across different IPC-specific code.
Different topology filenames may be required depending on which SSP is
used, and whether or not digital mics are present.
This patch adds a tplg_quirk_mask and in the case of the SOF driver
adds the relevant configurations.
This is a short-term solution to the ES8336 support issues.
In a long-term solution, we would need an interface where the machine
driver or platform driver have the ability to alter the topology
hard-coded low-level hardware support, e.g. by substituting an
interface for another, or disabling an interface that is not supported
on a given skew.

The NHLT information can be used to figure out which SSPs are enabled
in a platform.
The 'SSP' link type is too broad for machine drivers, since it can
cover the Bluetooth sideband and the analog audio codec connections,
so this helper exposes a parameter to filter with the device
type (DEVICE_I2S refers to analog audio codec in NHLT parlance).
The helper returns a mask, since more than one SSP may be used for
analog audio, e.g. the NHLT spec describes the use of SSP0 for
amplifiers and SSP1 for headset codec. Note that if more than one bit
is set, it's impossible to determine which SSP is connected to what
external component. Additional platform-specific information based on
e.g. DMI quirks would still be required in the machine driver to
configure the relevant dailinks.

The platform driver may have information on which I2S/TDM link(s) to
enable in the machine driver. In the case of Intel devices, this may
be extracted from NHLT tables in platform firmware. This link

Remove the comp_dai and dai_config members of struct snd_sof_dai and
replace it with a void *private field. Introduce a new struct
sof_dai_private_data that will contain the pointer to these two fields.
The topology parser will populate this structure and save it as part of
the "private" member in snd_sof_dai. Change all users of these fields to
use the private member instead.

Some audio hardware cannot support the same slot width for all sample
widths, or a slot width equal to the sample width for all sample widths.
This is usually due either to limitations of the audio serial port or
system clocking restrictions.
A typical example would be:
- 16-bit samples in 16-bit slots
- 24-bit samples in 32-bit slots
The new dai-tdm-slot-width-map property allows setting a mapping of
sample widths and the corresponding tdm slot widths and slot counts.
Although the slot count is usually the same for all cases this does
allow for adding padding slots to maintain the same bitclk frequency.
The property is added to each endpoint node that needs the component
DAI to be told the TDM slot width and count.

We've been using a default firmware name for each PCI/ACPI/OF platform
for a while. The machine-specific sof_fw_filename is in practice not
different from the default, and newer devices don't set this field, so
let's remove the redundant definitions.
When OEMs modify the base firmware, they can keep the same firmware
name but store the file in a separate directory.

There is a regular need in the kernel to provide a way to declare
having a dynamically sized set of trailing elements in a structure.
Kernel code should always use “flexible array members”[1] for these
cases. The older style of one-element or zero-length arrays should
no longer be used[2].
This code was transformed with the help of Coccinelle:
