PCI-dependent videobuf_foo methods were renamed as videobuf_pci_foo.
Also, videobuf_dmabuf is now part of videobuf-dma-sg private struct.
So, to access it, a subroutine call is needed.
This patch renames all occurences of those function calls to be
consistent with the video-buf split.

Use the balance control to make the mono volume control stereo.
Note that full range isn't supported. The balance control attenuates one
channel by 0 to -63 dB, and the volume control provides additional attenuation
to both channels by another 0 to -63 dB.
So the channel with the most attenuation has a range of 0 to -126 dB, while
the other channel only has a range of 0 to -63 dB. ALSA volume controls don't
appear to support this concept. I just limited the range to 0 to -63 total.
Once you get to -63 dB, you're already at silence, so additional attenuation
is pretty much pointless anyway.

The driver should now pass the 'busy' state of the device to the cx2341x

the device is busy and the user attempts to modify certain 'dangerous'

The cx88-blackbird and pvrusb2 drivers currently always pass '0' (not busy)

Rework the way the DMA buffer is handled and IRQs are generated.
ALSA uses a ring-buffer of multiple periods. Each period is supposed to
corrispond to one IRQ.
The existing driver was generating one interrupt per ring-buffer, as opposed
to per period. This meant that as soon as the IRQ was generated, the hardware
was already starting to re-write the beginning of the buffer. Since the DMA
happens on a per-line basis, there was only a narrow window to copy the data
out before the buffer was overwritten.
The cx88 core RISC program generator is modified so that it can set the IRQ
and counter flags to count every X lines of DMA transfer. This way we can
generate an interrupt every period instead of every full ring-buffer. Right
now only period of one line are supported, but it should be possible to
support longer periods. Note that a WRITE instruction generates an IRQ when
it starts, not when the transfer is finished. Thus to generate an IRQ when
line X is done, one must set the IRQ flag on the instruction that starts line
X+1, not the one that ends line X.
Change the line size so that there are four lines in the SRAM FIFO. If there
are not four lines, the analog output from the cx88's internal DACs is full of
clicks and pops.
Try to handle FIFO sync errors. Sometimes the chip generates many of these
errors before audio data starts. Up to 50 sync errors will be ignored and the
counter reset.
Have the IRQ handler save the RISC counter to the chip struct, and then have
the pointer callback use this to calculate the pointer position. We could
read the counter from the pointer callback, but sometimes the sync errors on
start up cause the counter to go crazy. ALSA sees this and thinks there has
been an overrun. The IRQ hander can avoid saving the counter position on
sync errors.
The chip "opened" flag wasn't necessary. ALSA won't try to open the same
substream multiple times. Probably this code was cut&pasted from the bt87x
driver, which has multiple sub-streams for one chip.
Do error checking for the videobuf mapping functions.
snd_card_cx88_runtime_free() is useless and can be deleted.

Currently the driver turns on audio interrupts, then sets the audio interrupt
mask to select which interrupts to get. One could received unwanted
interrupts since the mask is set _after_ interrupts have already been turned
on. Change the order of the operations, and clear any audio interrupt status
bits that are already set for good measure.
Before changing the SRAM FIFO parameters, make sure the FIFO isn't being used.
This shouldn't happen with just the ALSA driver, as it should never try to
turn on FIFO/RISC/DMA while they are already on. However, the V4L driver
needs to turn the audio FIFO on for analog audio output to work (undocumented
cx88 bug). The FIFO parameters are in an inconsistent state while they are
updated, and this results in many FIFO sync error IRQs if the FIFO is in use
while it's in this inconsistent state.
Also create and use a bunch of symbolic constants for audio interrupt mask
bits.

Get rid of the "CORE" prefix from cx88 printks. It was only used a few times,
and it makes it look like they're coming from the kernel core or something.
Fix the message, "TV tuner 60 at 0x1fe, Radio tuner -1 at 0x1fe", by adding a
"cx88[0]" prefix to be consistent, and to keep people who grep their dmesg
output for cx88 from missing it. Get rid of the addresses, which are always
wrong. The addresses are always set to -1, but because it's an unsigned 8-bit
value, the left shift converts it to the nonsense address 0x1fe.
In the cx8802 driver, some cut and pasted code prefixed lines with "CORE
cx88[0]:", which has been changed to "cx88[0]/2:" like the other printks from

- cx88_boards is made static
- cx88_subids is made static and const

- cx88_card_list() is made static

- The code to allocate and initialize the core state struct and the chip is
moved out of cx88-core.c:cx88_get_core() and into a new function in

The cx88 driver state stored the ID of the board type in core->board. Every
time the driver need to get some information about the board configuration, it
uses the board number as an index into board configuration array.
This patch changes it so that the board number is in core->boardnr, and
core->board is a copy of the board configuration information. This allows
access to board information without the extra indirection. e.g.
cx88_boards[core->board].mpeg becomes core->board.mpeg.
This has a number of advantages:
- The code is simpler to write.
- It compiles to be smaller and faster, without needing the extra array lookup
to get at the board information.
- The cx88_boards array no longer needs to be exported to all cx88 modules.
- The boards array can be made const
- It should be possible to avoid keeping the (large) cx88_boards array around
after the module is loaded.
- If module parameters or eeprom info override some board configuration
setting, it's not necessary to modify the boards array, which would
affect all boards of the same type.

Enhance the dvb-pll definition of the fmd1216 tuner by adding an init sequence
and a sleep sequence.
The init sequence sets the AGC control register to 0xa0, selecting the fast
time constant and 112 dBuV take-over point. This the recommended value for
DVB-T operation.
The sleep sequence sets bit P4 (which is believed to turn the analog
demodulator on), turns off the tuning voltage, and sets the AGC control
register to 0x60 (external AGC voltage, the recommended value for analog
operation).
The existing dvb-pll users in the cx88 driver, listed below, will gain these
init and sleep sequences.

philips_fmd1216_tuner_sleep(), and philips_fmd1216_tuner_set_params() are
deleted and the dvb-pll versions are used.
This should result in equivalent sleep, init, and tuning sequences being sent
to the tuner.
For the cxusb driver, only one board is effected:
USB_PID_MEDION_MD95700 Medion MD95700
This board used dvb_usb_tuner_init_i2c() and dvb_usb_tuner_set_params_i2c()

as the dvb-pll versions. They call a tuner pass control function defined at
the dvb-usb level, but this does not matter, as this card does not have a
tuner pass control function (only the dib3000mb does). This board will gain
the sleep sequence, while init and tuning should be unchanged.

Currently, the freezer treats all tasks as freezable, except for the kernel
threads that explicitly set the PF_NOFREEZE flag for themselves. This
approach is problematic, since it requires every kernel thread to either
set PF_NOFREEZE explicitly, or call try_to_freeze(), even if it doesn't
care for the freezing of tasks at all.
It seems better to only require the kernel threads that want to or need to
be frozen to use some freezer-related code and to remove any
freezer-related code from the other (nonfreezable) kernel threads, which is
done in this patch.
The patch causes all kernel threads to be nonfreezable by default (ie. to
have PF_NOFREEZE set by default) and introduces the set_freezable()
function that should be called by the freezable kernel threads in order to
unset PF_NOFREEZE. It also makes all of the currently freezable kernel
threads call set_freezable(), so it shouldn't cause any (intentional)
change of behaviour to appear. Additionally, it updates documentation to
describe the freezing of tasks more accurately.

The code of the dvb-pll driver and the lgh06xf driver is nearly
identical. The main difference is that the lgh06xf driver would set the
AGC TOP value on every tune call. The dvb-pll driver now has the ability
to set the AGC TOP when the front-end device is opened, which is a better
way to go about it. By using this ability of dvb-pll, the lgh06xf driver
is made unnecessary.
There is one other difference. dvb-pll will probe for the presence of an
I2C pll chip by doing a one byte read, the lgh06xf driver did not do
this. In some devices the PLL is not reachable over I2C at the timer the
tuner is attached. Some more initialization, such as firmware loading,
must take place first. None of the devices using a LG-H06xF should have
this problem.

The out of tree v4l-dvb build system didn't always override the kernel's
configuration settings with v4l-dvb's settings correctly. To work around
this, makefiles would define some new macro based on the setting of a
config variable. e.g. the pwc Makefile would define CONFIG_PWC_DEBUG if
CONFIG_USB_PWC_DEBUG (which is defined via Kconfig) was set.
The v4l-dvb build system should now always override correctly, and this
is no longer necessary. This patch gets ride of these extra defines and
just uses the CONFIG_* settings directly.

The direct register access ioctls were defined as kernel internal only,
but they are very useful for debugging hardware from userspace and are
used as such. Officially export them.
VIDIOC_INT_[SG]_REGISTER is renamed to VIDIOC_DBG_[SG]_REGISTER
Definition of ioctl and struct v4l2_register is moved from v4l2-common.h
to videodev2.h.
Types used in struct v4l2_register are changed to the userspace
exportable versions (u32 -> __u32, etc).
Use of VIDIOC_DBG_S_REGISTER requires CAP_SYS_ADMIN permission, so move
the check into the video_ioctl2() dispatcher so it doesn't need to be
duplicated in each driver's call-back function. CAP_SYS_ADMIN check is
added to pvrusb2 (which doesn't use video_ioctl2).

After Al Viro (finally) succeeded in removing the sched.h #include in module.h
recently, it makes sense again to remove other superfluous sched.h includes.
There are quite a lot of files which include it but don't actually need
anything defined in there. Presumably these includes were once needed for
macros that used to live in sched.h, but moved to other header files in the
course of cleaning it up.
To ease the pain, this time I did not fiddle with any header files and only
removed #includes from .c-files, which tend to cause less trouble.

A series of patches to change the cx88 framework to allow the
PCI mpeg port to be shared dynamically between different
types of drivers or applications. This patch changes the cx88-dvb
and cx88-blackbird drivers to become 'sub drivers' of a higher
single cx88-mpeg driver.
The cx88-mpeg driver is a superset of the previous cx88-mpeg/blackbird
drivers and now owns the IRQ. cx88-dvb/blackbird now become mini drivers,
registering themselves with cx88-mpeg through a standard interface with
callbacks.
Sub drivers request access to hardware via the cx88-mpeg driver. In turn
the cx88-mpeg driver determines whether the hardware is busy and accepts
or refuses the request, grant access using callbacks into the sub drivers.
The net effect is that you are no longer able to tamper with the mpeg port
from multiple different applications at the same time, potentially breaking
a live mpeg2 hardware encoding or dvb stream.
The mechanism extends to enable multiple dvb frontends to be registered
and share the single resource.

Maintain a per-CPU global "struct pt_regs *" variable which can be used instead
of passing regs around manually through all ~1800 interrupt handlers in the
Linux kernel.
The regs pointer is used in few places, but it potentially costs both stack
space and code to pass it around. On the FRV arch, removing the regs parameter
from all the genirq function results in a 20% speed up of the IRQ exit path
(ie: from leaving timer_interrupt() to leaving do_IRQ()).
Where appropriate, an arch may override the generic storage facility and do
something different with the variable. On FRV, for instance, the address is
maintained in GR28 at all times inside the kernel as part of general exception
handling.
Having looked over the code, it appears that the parameter may be handed down
through up to twenty or so layers of functions. Consider a USB character
device attached to a USB hub, attached to a USB controller that posts its
interrupts through a cascaded auxiliary interrupt controller. A character
device driver may want to pass regs to the sysrq handler through the input
layer which adds another few layers of parameter passing.
I've build this code with allyesconfig for x86_64 and i386. I've runtested the
main part of the code on FRV and i386, though I can't test most of the drivers.
I've also done partial conversion for powerpc and MIPS - these at least compile
with minimal configurations.
This will affect all archs. Mostly the changes should be relatively easy.
Take do_IRQ(), store the regs pointer at the beginning, saving the old one:
struct pt_regs *old_regs = set_irq_regs(regs);
And put the old one back at the end:
set_irq_regs(old_regs);
Don't pass regs through to generic_handle_irq() or __do_IRQ().
In timer_interrupt(), this sort of change will be necessary:
- update_process_times(user_mode(regs));
- profile_tick(CPU_PROFILING, regs);
+ update_process_times(user_mode(get_irq_regs()));
+ profile_tick(CPU_PROFILING);
I'd like to move update_process_times()'s use of get_irq_regs() into itself,
except that i386, alone of the archs, uses something other than user_mode().
Some notes on the interrupt handling in the drivers:
(*) input_dev() is now gone entirely. The regs pointer is no longer stored in
the input_dev struct.
(*) finish_unlinks() in drivers/usb/host/ohci-q.c needs checking. It does
something different depending on whether it's been supplied with a regs
pointer or not.
(*) Various IRQ handler function pointers have been moved to type
irq_handler_t.

This patch changes the setting of the cx2388x notch filter to match that of
the video capture sample frequency, removing some annoying interference
lines THAT would appear when capturing composite video. This has been tested
in PAL and NTSC TV norms.
It sets the Y/C separation luma notch filter, which removes the chroma signal
from the luma signal when using a composite input.
The luma notch filter operates at the video decoder's frequency, not the ADC's
frequency or at the frequency of the scaled video. Y/C separation happens after
the sample rate converter, before video scaling.
The datasheet provides plots of the filter response for three _video decoder_
frequencies, 4x Fsc, square pixel, and ccir601. These are the same three
frequencies for the notch filter control. It seems pretty clear that this
filter should be set based on the video decoder frequency. The cx88 driver
always uses a video decoder frequency of 4xFsc.

Software I2C were using a very conservative value of udelay=16, meaning about
20Kbps. According with Philips I2C datasheet, the i2c should answer well for
times at the order of 4.7 us. So, using udelay=5 should work for all devices.
After this patch, the speed should be close to 66,67 Kbps, with the current
kernel software bitbang, with 30/60 duty cycle.
Anyway, added a new parameter (i2c_udelay) that would allow using conservative
values, if eventually a hardware doesn't support the datasheet values.
Thanks to Jean Delvare <khali@linux-fr.org> for pointing this improvement.

Several changes at register stuff were done since commit
b45009b028, but I've forgot
to add the copyright line for this. Those changes allowed
cx88 to have multiple tuners, allowing it to support hardware with
separated radio and video tuners. It also allows binding a tuner to an
specific i2c address.

1) It sets LNBDCPol differently based on the card type. Now it should
work properly for both the kworld and geniatech cards.
2) It stops returning an error for the SEC_VOLTAGE_OFF voltage command
(the cx88-dvb level handles the actual voltage on/off, but it still
passes the ioctl down to the cx24123 level, which previously rejected
the OFF as invalid so the ioctl would report failure)

The test in dvb-pll to see if a tuner's PLL responds when attaching fails
on NXT2004 based boards before the firmware is loaded.
This patch allows us to avoid this test by not passing an I2C bus handle to
the dvb_pll_attach routine, just as Chris Pascoe has done for MT352 and
ZL10353 based boards when used in cx88-dvb.

Typical wiring of MT352 and ZL10353 based tuners differs from dvb-pll's
expectation that the PLL is directly accessible. On these boards, the
PLL is actually hidden behind the demodulator, and as such can only be
accessed via the demodulator's interface. It was failing to communicate
with the PLL during an attach test and subsequently not connecting the
tuner ops.
By passing a NULL I2C bus handle to dvb_pll_attach, this accessibility
check can be bypassed. Do this for the affected boards. Also fix a
possible NULL dereference at sleep time, which would otherwise be
exposed by this change.

The dvb_frontend_ops is a pointer inside dvb_frontend. That's why every demod-driver
is having a field of dvb_frontend_ops in its private-state-struct and
using the reference for filling the pointer-field in dvb_frontend.
- It saves at least two lines of code per demod-driver,
- reduces object size (one less dereference per frontend_ops-access),
- be coherent with dvb_tuner_ops,
- makes it a little bit easier for newbies to understand how it works and
- avoids stupid mistakes because you would have to copy the dvb_frontend_ops
always, before you could assign the static pointer directly, which was

Added code to cx88-blackbird.c to treat the VIDIOC_S_FREQUENCY ioctl
to stop mpeg stream before changing the frequency and restart it after.
It seems that the mpeg stream needs to be paused while changing the
channel frequency, otherwise the mpeg encoder enters into a bad state,
producing artifacts.

The KWorld HardwareMpegTV XPert uses a multistandard tuner, tda8290 + tda8275.
Without checking the video standard in blackbird_probe, the encoder defaults
to PAL, even if the incoming video stream is NTSC. This patch checks the video
standard set by the cx2388x decoder, and sets the encoding height and frame
accordingly.
This patch is designed to only affect the KWorld HardwareMpegTV XPert.

Currently in /sys/class/dvb/dvbX.demuxY/ we have:
dev
uevent
With the patch, we have (for a PCI DVB device):
dev
device -> ../../../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1e.0/0000:03:0d.0
uevent
So userspace tools can (finally) work out which physical device a DVB adapter
refers to. Previously you had to kinda look through dmesg and hope that it
hadn't been dumped out of the buffer. This makes debugging a lot easier if
the system has been up for a long time!
This is done by adding an extra 'struct device *' parameter to
dvb_register_adapter(). It will work with any kind of standard
linux 'device'. Additionally, if someone has an embedded system which does
things differently, they can simply supply 'NULL' and the behaviour will be
as before - the link will simply not appear.

one language on the left, one on the right audio channel. If there is no

Cleanup audio input handling in bttv and tvaudio:
- inputs were specified that were never used
- mute was handled as a special input which led to confusing code
- confusing naming made it difficult to see if the setting was for
i2c or gpio.
The old audiochip.h input names moved to tvaudio.h. Currently this
is used both by tvaudio and msp3400 until the msp3400 implements the
new msp3400-specific inputs.
Detect in bttv the tvaudio and msp3400 i2c clients and use these
client pointers to set the inputs directly instead of broadcasting the
command.
Removed AUDC_SET_INPUT. Now replaced by VIDIOC_S_AUDIO. This will be
replaced again later by the new ROUTING commands.
Removed VIDIOC_G_AUDIO implementations in i2c drivers: this command is
a user level command and not to be used internally. It wasn't called at
all anyway.

VIDEO_CX88_ALSA should not be between VIDEO_CX88_DVB and
VIDEO_CX88_DVB_ALL_FRONTENDS
When cx88-alsa was added to cx88/Kconfig, it was added in between

undesireable effects to the appearance of the menu options in
menuconfig.

and restore the correct menuconfig appearance.

This patch fixes the strange crashes I was seeing after using
bttv card, caused by a buffer overflow in bttv_risc_packed.
The instruction buffer size calculation contains two errors:
(a) a non-zero padding value can push the start of the next bpl
section to just before a page border, leading to more scanline
splits and thus additional instructions.
(b) the first DMA region can be smaller than one page, so there can
be a scanline split even if bpl*lines is smaller than PAGE_SIZE.
For example, consider the case where offset is 0, bpl is 2, padding
is 4094, lines is smaller than 2048, the first DMA region has size 1
and all others have size PAGE_SIZE, assumed to equal 4096. Then
all bpl regions cross page borders and the number of instructions
written is 2*lines+2, rather than lines+2 (the current estimate).
With this patch the number of instructions for this example is
estimated to be 2*lines+3.
Also, the BUG_ON that was supposed to catch buffer overflows contained
a thinko causing it fire only if the buffer was overrun by a factor of
16 or more, so it fixes the the BUG_ON's (using sizeof rather than "4").
