Holger Schurig c95c7f930e [PATCH] libertas: uppercase some #defines
Usually constants defined by #define are in ALL_UPPERCASE. This patch
fixes this.

I also shuffled the bits around so that they match the bit positions in the
host-interrupt-state register of the CF/SDIO card :-)

Holger Schurig ac558ca2ae [PATCH] libertas: make more functions static & remove unused functions
Some functions where declared in header files, but used only once. They are
now static functions.

After doing this, I found out that some functions weren't used at all. I
removed this dead code.

Holger Schurig 1df4e8fe91 [PATCH] libertas: remove fw.c
Firmware download is quite different for different hardware. The SDIO and CF
cards have two flat files that need to be downloaded, whereas the USB driver
needs only one file, but with an internal structure.

The code that handles this (USB only) structured file is currently in fw.c.
This patch moves this code into if_usb.c. The remaining functions in fw.c
have not much to do with firmware, they are various card- and network-stack
initialisation functions. I've moved them into main.c.

Dan Williams 8c51276575 [PATCH] libertas: simplify and clean up data rate handling
Remove unused/duplicated fields and consolidate static data rate arrays,
for example the libertas_supported_rates[] and datarates[] arrays in
the bss_descriptor structure, and the libertas_supported_rates field
in the wlan_adapter structure.

Introduce libertas_fw_index_to_data_rate and libertas_data_rate_to_fw_index
functions and use them everywhere firmware requires a rate index rather
than a rate array.

The firmware requires the 4 basic rates to have the MSB set, but most
other stuff doesn't, like WEXT and mesh ioctls. Therefore, only set the MSB
on basic rates when pushing rate arrays to firmware instead of doing a ton
of (rate & 0x7f) everywhere.

Luis Carlos Cobo 1e838bf31c [PATCH] libertas: specific mesh scan for mshX interface
With this patch, scanning with mshX interface will only return mesh networks. To
differentiate them, a specific mesh IE in beacons/probe responses is used. This
IE has been introduced in firmware release 5.110.14. Note:

Even though there can be at most a single mesh per channel, this scan might
return several networks in the same channel.

If all nodes in a mesh network are associated to an AP, they won't produce
beacons/probe responses, thus the network will not be listed. This will be fixed
in future firmware releases.

Scan on ethX interface is not filtered, so it will list both mesh and non-mesh
networks.

Ulrich Kunitz c5691235cf [PATCH] zd1211rw: monitor all packets
While in monitor mode the zd1211rw received only a limited
set of packets. This patch forwards now all packets the device
receives. Notify that while monitoring no FCS checks are done; so
strange packets might appear in the network sniffer of your
choice.

ATTENTION: Support for multiple interfaces on a single ZD1211
device is currently broken. So this code works only on the first
interface.

Here is an example to put the device in monitor mode.

iwconfig wlan0 mode monitor
ifconfig wlan0 up
iwconfig wlan0 channel 10

Eric W. Biederman 881d966b48 [NET]: Make the device list and device lookups per namespace.
This patch makes most of the generic device layer network
namespace safe. This patch makes dev_base_head a
network namespace variable, and then it picks up
a few associated variables. The functions:
dev_getbyhwaddr
dev_getfirsthwbytype
dev_get_by_flags
dev_get_by_name
__dev_get_by_name
dev_get_by_index
__dev_get_by_index
dev_ioctl
dev_ethtool
dev_load
wireless_process_ioctl

were modified to take a network namespace argument, and
deal with it.

vlan_ioctl_set and brioctl_set were modified so their
hooks will receive a network namespace argument.

So basically anthing in the core of the network stack that was
affected to by the change of dev_base was modified to handle
multiple network namespaces. The rest of the network stack was
simply modified to explicitly use &init_net the initial network
namespace. This can be fixed when those components of the network
stack are modified to handle multiple network namespaces.

For now the ifindex generator is left global.

Fundametally ifindex numbers are per namespace, or else
we will have corner case problems with migration when
we get that far.

At the same time there are assumptions in the network stack
that the ifindex of a network device won't change. Making
the ifindex number global seems a good compromise until
the network stack can cope with ifindex changes when
you change namespaces, and the like.

Eric W. Biederman 457c4cbc5a [NET]: Make /proc/net per network namespace
This patch makes /proc/net per network namespace. It modifies the global
variables proc_net and proc_net_stat to be per network namespace.
The proc_net file helpers are modified to take a network namespace argument,
and all of their callers are fixed to pass &init_net for that argument.
This ensures that all of the /proc/net files are only visible and
usable in the initial network namespace until the code behind them
has been updated to be handle multiple network namespaces.

Making /proc/net per namespace is necessary as at least some files
in /proc/net depend upon the set of network devices which is per
network namespace, and even more files in /proc/net have contents
that are relevant to a single network namespace.

Daniel Drake 7e9ed18874 [MAC80211]: improved short preamble handling
Similarly to CTS protection, whether short preambles are used for 802.11b
transmissions should be a per-subif setting, not device global.

For STAs, this patch makes short preamble handling automatic based on the ERP
IE. For APs, hostapd still uses the prism ioctls, but the write ioctl has been
restricted to AP-only subifs.

ieee80211_txrx_data.short_preamble (an unused field) was removed.

Unfortunately, some API changes were required for the following functions:

Update the ACPI processor driver to detect BM activity and

    CPUIDLE: menu governor updates

Tweak the menu governor to more effectively handle non-timer
break events. Non-timer break events are detected by comparing the
actual sleep time to the expected sleep time. In future revisions, it
may be more reliable to use the timer data structures directly.

    cpuidle: re-write

Some portions have been rewritten to make the code cleaner and lighter
weight. The following is a list of changes:

1.) the state name is now included in the sysfs interface
2.) detection, hotplug, and available state modifications are handled by
    CPUIDLE drivers directly
3.) the CPUIDLE idle handler is only ever installed when at least one
    cpuidle_device is enabled and ready
4.) the menu governor BM code no longer overflows
5.) the sysfs attributes are now printed as unsigned integers, avoiding
    negative values
6.) a variety of other small cleanups

Also, Idle drivers are no longer swappable during runtime through the
CPUIDLE sysfs inteface. On i386 and x86_64 most idle handlers (e.g.
poll, mwait, halt, etc.) don't benefit from an infrastructure that
supports multiple states, so I think using a more general case idle
handler selection mechanism would be cleaner.

    cpuidle: add the 'menu' governor

Here is my first take at implementing an idle PM governor that takes
full advantage of NO_HZ. I call it the 'menu' governor because it
considers the full list of idle states before each entry.

I've kept the implementation fairly simple. It attempts to guess the
next residency time and then chooses a state that would meet at least
the break-even point between power savings and entry cost. To this end,
it selects the deepest idle state that satisfies the following
    constraints:
         1. If the idle time elapsed since bus master activity was detected
is below a threshold (currently 20 ms), then limit the selection
            to C2-type or above.
         2. Do not choose a state with a break-even residency that exceeds
the expected time remaining until the next timer interrupt.
         3. Do not choose a state with a break-even residency that exceeds
the elapsed time between the last pair of break events,
            excluding timer interrupts.

This governor has an advantage over "ladder" governor because it
proactively checks how much time remains until the next timer interrupt
using the tick infrastructure. Also, it handles device interrupt
activity more intelligently by not including timer interrupts in break
event calculations. Finally, it doesn't make policy decisions using the
number of state entries, which can have variable residency times (NO_HZ
makes these potentially very large), and instead only considers sleep
    time deltas.

The menu governor can be selected during runtime using the cpuidle sysfs
    interface like so:
    "echo "menu" > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpuidle/current_governor"

cpuidle: export time until next timer interrupt using NO_HZ

Expose information about the time remaining until the next
timer interrupt expires by utilizing the dynticks infrastructure.
Also modify the main idle loop to allow dynticks to handle
non-interrupt break events (e.g. DMA). Finally, expose sleep ticks
information to external code. Thomas Gleixner is responsible for much
of the code in this patch. However, I've made some additional changes,
so I'm probably responsible if there are any bugs or oversights :)

    cpuidle: hang fix

Prevent hang on x86-64, when ACPI processor driver is added as a module on
a system that does not support C-states.

x86-64 expects all idle handlers to enable interrupts before returning from
idle handler. This is due to enter_idle(), exit_idle() races. Make
cpuidle_idle_call() confirm to this when there is no pm_idle_old.

Also, cpuidle look at the return values of attch_driver() and set
current_driver to NULL if attach fails on all CPUs.

cpuidle take2: Hookup ACPI C-states driver with cpuidle

Hookup ACPI C-states onto generic cpuidle infrastructure.

drivers/acpi/procesor_idle.c is now a ACPI C-states driver that registers as
a driver in cpuidle infrastructure and the policy part is removed from
drivers/acpi/processor_idle.c. We use governor in cpuidle instead.

    cpuidle take2: Core cpuidle infrastructure

Announcing 'cpuidle', a new CPU power management infrastructure to manage
idle CPUs in a clean and efficient manner.
cpuidle separates out the drivers that can provide support for multiple types
of idle states and policy governors that decide on what idle state to use
    at run time.
A cpuidle driver can support multiple idle states based on parameters like
varying power consumption, wakeup latency, etc (ACPI C-states for example).
A cpuidle governor can be usage model specific (laptop, server,
    laptop on battery etc).
Main advantage of the infrastructure being, it allows independent development
of drivers and governors and allows for better CPU power management.

A huge thanks to Adam Belay and Shaohua Li who were part of this mini-project
since its beginning and are greatly responsible for this patchset.

    This patch:

    Core cpuidle infrastructure.
Introduces a new abstraction layer for cpuidle:
    * which manages drivers that can support multiple idles states. Drivers
can be generic or particular to specific hardware/platform
    * allows pluging in multiple policy governors that can take idle state policy
      decision
    * The core also has a set of sysfs interfaces with which administrato can know
about supported drivers and governors and switch them at run time.

Larry Finger 3f7086978f [PATCH] bcm43xx: Fix cancellation of work queue crashes
A crash upon booting that is caused by bcm43xx has been reported [1] and
found to be due to a work queue being reinitialized while work on that
queue is still pending. This fix modifies the shutdown of work queues and
prevents periodic work from being requeued during shutdown. With this patch,
no more crashes on reboot were observed by the original reporter. I do not
get that particular failure on my system; however, when running a large
number of ifdown/ifup sequences, my system would kernel panic with the
'caps lock' light blinking at roughly a 1 Hz rate. In addition, there were
infrequent failures in the firmware that resulted in 'IRQ READY TIMEOUT'
errors. With this patch, no more of the first type of failure occur, and
incidence of the second type is greatly reduced.

Rafael J. Wysocki 8314418629 Freezer: make kernel threads nonfreezable by default
Currently, the freezer treats all tasks as freezable, except for the kernel
threads that explicitly set the PF_NOFREEZE flag for themselves. This
approach is problematic, since it requires every kernel thread to either
set PF_NOFREEZE explicitly, or call try_to_freeze(), even if it doesn't
care for the freezing of tasks at all.

It seems better to only require the kernel threads that want to or need to
be frozen to use some freezer-related code and to remove any
freezer-related code from the other (nonfreezable) kernel threads, which is
done in this patch.

The patch causes all kernel threads to be nonfreezable by default (ie. to
have PF_NOFREEZE set by default) and introduces the set_freezable()
function that should be called by the freezable kernel threads in order to
unset PF_NOFREEZE. It also makes all of the currently freezable kernel
threads call set_freezable(), so it shouldn't cause any (intentional)
change of behaviour to appear. Additionally, it updates documentation to
describe the freezing of tasks more accurately.

Auke Kok 44c10138fd PCI: Change all drivers to use pci_device->revision
Instead of all drivers reading pci config space to get the revision
ID, they can now use the pci_device->revision member.

This exposes some issues where drivers where reading a word or a dword
for the revision number, and adding useless error-handling around the
read. Some drivers even just read it for no purpose of all.

In devices where the revision ID is being copied over and used in what
appears to be the equivalent of hotpath, I have left the copy code
and the cached copy as not to influence the driver's performance.

Daniel Drake 74553aedd4 [PATCH] zd1211rw: Defer firmware load until first ifup
While playing with the firmware a while back, I discovered a way to
access the device's entire address space before the firmware has been
loaded.

Previously we were loading the firmware early on (during probe) so that
we could read the MAC address from the EEPROM and register a netdevice.
Now that we can read the EEPROM without having firmware, we can defer
firmware loading until later while still reading the MAC address early
on.

This has the advantage that zd1211rw can now be built into the kernel --
previously if this was the case, zd1211rw would be loaded before the
filesystem is available and firmware loading would fail.

Firmware load and other device initialization operations now happen the
first time the interface is brought up.

Some architectural changes were needed: handling of the is_zd1211b flag
was moved into the zd_usb structure, MAC address handling was obviously
changed, and a preinit_hw stage was added (the order is now: init,
preinit_hw, init_hw).

Michal Schmidt 1138c37b66 [PATCH] airo: fix a race causing initialization failures
Matteo Croce reported Aironet initialization failures. They were caused by
a race in airo. airo finds a free interface name, then initializes the card
and finally registers the interface. Another device may get the same name
in the meantime.
The reason airo gets its name early is to use it in informative printks and
to name the resources it requests. The printks will be just fine without
the interface name and the resources can use the driver's name - that's
what other network drivers do anyway.
One of the talkative functions is setup_card(). It is called once before
registration and can be called later again. Let's have an empty dev->name
during the first call, so it doesn't print the ugly "airo(eth%d)" message.

Daniel Drake aaf83d4fc4 [PATCH] zd1211rw: Make CCK gain patching conditional on RF type
The vendor driver code suggests that CR47 patching happens on every channel
change for every RF (depending on bit 8 in POD).

Due to a bug in their driver (upper bits of RF_Mode get zeroed out, then
are examined for 1s when setting some other flags), this isn't actually
what happens, and their generic CCK patching routine never takes effect.

Some of their RF configurations do include explicit (duplicated) code
for CR47 patching though. This patch makes zd1211rw match that
behaviour.

Daniel Drake 4481d6093e [PATCH] zd1211rw: Add UW2453 RF support
This patch adds support for another radio appearing in new devices: the
Ubec UW2453. It's more complicated than the other RF's we support, but
Ubec publish full tech specs so we're able to understand the vendor code
relatively well.

Now that we support UW2453, we also support Atheros' new USB chip: the
AR5007UG. From the little info we have, this appears to be just a
rebranded ZD1211B.

This RF code doesn't work very well -- lots more TX/RX errors than the
other RFs. However, the vendor driver doesn't do any better, so this is
all we can do for now.

Luis Carlos 82fde74b94 [PATCH] libertas: convert libertas_mpp into anycast_mask
With firmware 5.220.11.p5, this allows to specify the anycast addresses the
device will listen to.

The anycast address range is C0:27:C0:27:C0:XX where XX goes from 00 to 1F (or
0 to 31 in dec). The value to write on anycast_mask will specify which
addresses the device listens to. Bits in a 32 bit int are numbered from 0
(least significative bit) to 31. A specific address ending in YY will be
listened to if bit YY in the value is set to one.

Examples:

0x00000000 : do not listen to any anycast address
0xFFFFFFFF : listen to every anycast address from :00 to :1F
0x00000013 : listen to anycast addresses :00, :01 and :04

Dan Williams e76850d620 [PATCH] libertas: make association paths consistent
The BSS to associate with (in either Infrastructure or IBSS join
operations) is now stored in _one_ place in the association request (the
bss member), not two places as before (pattemptedbss and
curbssparams->bssdescriptor).

Association requests are passed to the necessary association functions
to (a) give them access to the bss member and (b) ensure that
association/join/start setup uses settings from the request, not the
current adapter settings (which may not be valid for the requested
settings).

Because the 'bss' member of the association request is used now, the
command return functions from associate and adhoc join/start need access
to the in-progress association request to update curbssparams when
everything is done. The association worker moves the request from
pending to in-progress for the duration of the association attempt.

Holger Schurig 634b8f49c1 [PATCH] libertas: remove unused variables in wlan_dev_t
Actually, this patch removev wlan_dev_t totally and puts the used variables
of it directly into wlan_private. That reduces one level of indirection and
looks a little bit simpler. It's now "priv->card" and not
"priv->wlan_dev.card" and "priv->dev" instead of "priv->wlan_dev.netdev"

Changed two occurences of "((wlan_private *) dev->priv)->wlan_dev.netdev"
into "dev", because I didn't see the point in doing pointer-ping-pong.

The variables "ioport", "upld_rcv" and "upld_type" where unused. They have
been removed.

Holger Schurig 435a1acba2 [PATCH] libertas: fix RESET logic at unload time
Previously, we had a fixed array of 5 elements where we remembered all
initialized devices. This has been changed to use a "struct list_head"

Also renamed usb_cardp to cardp, as in the reset of the code.

Renamed reset_device() to if_usb_reset_device() like many other functions.

This allows us later to do something like this:

priv->hw_command_to_host = if_usb_command_to_host;
priv->hw_xxxx = if_usb_xxxx;
priv->hw_yyyy = if_usb_yyyy;
wlan_activate_card()

Michal Schmidt af5b5c9aa9 [PATCH] airo: Make /sys/bus/pci/drivers/airo/{,un}bind work
The way airo.c keeps track of all its devices is complicated and buggy
as well (del_airo_dev forgets to free the memory add_airo_dev allocates).
It's cleaner to use the standard list primitives.
While we're at it, it's not necessary to put PCI cards in the list, because
the kernel already keeps track of them. We can take advantage of it and
use the .remove callback as it was meant to be.
This makes /sys/bus/pci/drivers/airo/{,un}bind work.

Larry Finger ec759a2b38 [PATCH] bcm43xx: Fix PPC machine checks and match loopback gain specs
The specifications for loopback_gain calculation and for G PHY
initialization have been updated. This patch implements them and
fixes a machine check error that occurs for PPC architecture with a
phy->rev of 1.

Larry Finger 81e880064d [PATCH] bcm43xx: Fix 802.11b/g scan limits to match regulatory reqs
In 802.11b/g mode, bcm43xx actively scans channels 1-14 no matter what
locale has been set, either in the sprom or by the locale option. This
behaviorviolates regulatory rules everywhere in the world except
Japan. This patch changes the default range to the correct value if the
locale has been set, and to channels 1-13 if no locale has been set.

Daniel Drake 92b3e2e925 [PATCH] zd1211rw: Fix E2P_PHY_REG patching
Due to conflicting/confusing defines in the vendor driver, we were
reading E2P_PHY_REG from the wrong location.

CR157 patching was slightly incorrect in that the vendor driver only
patches in an 8-bit value, whereas we were patching 24 bits.

Additionally, CR157 patching was happening on both zd1211 and zd1211b,
but this should only happen on zd1211.

Daniel Drake ae6ead4623 [PATCH] zd1211rw: Reject AL2230S devices
zd1211rw currently detects AL2230S-based devices as AL2230, and hence
programs the RF incorrectly. Transmit silently fails on this
misconfiguration.

After this patch, AL2230S devices are rejected with an error message, to
avoid any confusion with an apparent driver bug.

David Woodhouse 83b5db89c8 [PATCH] bcm43xx: Fix machine check on PPC for version 1 PHY
Recent changes in the specs that were introduced in commit
740ac4fb08 were incorrect and resulted in machine check
errors on the PPC architecture for G PHY's with a revision number equal to 1. The
two offending changes are reverted.

Larry Finger be10d3860e [PATCH] bcm43xx: Fix code for confusion between PHY revision and PHY version
There are several places where the PHY version and revision were interchanged.
These are changed in the specifications on 2/13/07 and now use "analog" instead
instead of "version" to help reduce confusion.

Larry Finger 21665a69e6 [PATCH] bcm43xx: MANUALWLAN fixes
During testing of bcm43xx interference mitigation, two problems were
discovered:

(1) When the MANUALWLAN mode was set, routines _stack_save and _stack_restore
generated assertions that were traced to saving ILT registers with addresses
    > 0xFFF. This problem was fixed by adding one bit to the field used for
the offset, and subtracting one bit from the space used for the id.
(2) In MANUALWLAN mode, the IRQ XMIT errors are generated. The cause of these
errors has not yet been located. Any suggestions on debugging this problem
    would be greatly appreciated.
