During module unload, a coresight driver module will call back into
the CTI driver to remove any links between the two devices.
The current code has 2 issues:-
1) in the CTI driver the matching code is matching to the wrong device
so misses all the links.
2) The callback is called too late in the unload process resulting in a
crash.
This fixes both the issues.

Coresight driver assumes sink is common across all the ETMs,
and tries to build a path between ETM and the first enabled
sink found using bus based search. This breaks sysFS usage
on implementations that has multiple per core sinks in
enabled state.
To fix this, coresight_get_enabled_sink API is updated to
do a connection based search starting from the given source,
instead of bus based search.
With sink selection using sysfs depecrated for perf interface,
provision for reset is removed as well in this API.

Moving from using an address filter to trace the default "all addresses"
range to no filtering to acheive the same result, has caused the perf
filtering of kernel/user address spaces from not working unless an
explicit address filter was used.
This is due to the original code using a side-effect of the address
filtering rather than setting the global TRCVICTLR exception level
filtering.
The use of the mode sysfs file is also similarly affected.
A helper function is added to fix both instances.

etm4_count keeps track of number of ETMv4 registered and on some systems,
a race is observed on etm4_count variable which can lead to multiple calls
to cpuhp_setup_state_nocalls_cpuslocked(). This function internally calls
cpuhp_store_callbacks() which prevents multiple registrations of callbacks
for a given state and due to this race, it returns -EBUSY leading to ETM
probe failures like below.
coresight-etm4x: probe of 7040000.etm failed with error -16
This race can easily be triggered with async probe by setting probe type
as PROBE_PREFER_ASYNCHRONOUS and with ETM power management property
"arm,coresight-loses-context-with-cpu".
Prevent this race by moving cpuhp callbacks to etm driver init since the
cpuhp callbacks doesn't have to depend on the etm4_count and can be once
setup during driver init. Similarly we move cpu_pm notifier registration
to driver init and completely remove etm4_count usage. Also now we can
use non cpuslocked version of cpuhp callbacks with this movement.

Adds a method to select a suitable sink connected to a given source.
In cases where no sink is defined, the coresight_find_default_sink
routine can search from a given source, through the child connections
until a suitable sink is found.
The suitability is defined in by the sink coresight_dev_subtype on the
CoreSight device, and the distance from the source by counting
connections.
Higher value subtype is preferred - where these are equal, shorter
distance from source is used as a tie-break.
This allows for default sink to be discovered were none is specified

Implement a shutdown callback to ensure ETR hardware is
properly shutdown in reboot/shutdown path. This is required
for ETR which has SMMU address translation enabled like on
SC7180 SoC and few others. If the hardware is still accessing
memory after SMMU translation is disabled as part of SMMU
shutdown callback in system reboot or shutdown path, then
IOVAs(I/O virtual address) which it was using will go on the
bus as the physical addresses which might result in unknown
crashes (NoC/interconnect errors). So we make sure from this
shutdown callback that the ETR is shutdown before SMMU translation
is disabled and device_link in SMMU driver will take care of
ordering of shutdown callbacks such that SMMU shutdown callback
is not called before any of its consumer shutdown callbacks.

The current probe() function calls a pair of cpuhp_xxx API functions to
setup CPU hotplug handling. The hotplug lock is held for the duration of
the two calls and other CPU related code using cpus_read_lock() /
cpus_read_unlock() calls.
The problem is that on error states, goto: statements bypass the
cpus_read_unlock() call. This code has increased in complexity as the
driver has developed.
This patch introduces a pair of helper functions etm4_pm_setup_cpuslocked()
and etm4_pm_clear() which correct the issues above and group the PM code a
little better.
The two functions etm4_cpu_pm_register() and etm4_cpu_pm_unregister() are
dropped as these call cpu_pm_register_notifier() / ..unregister_notifier()
dependent on CONFIG_CPU_PM - but this define is used to nop these functions
out in the pm headers - so the wrapper functions are superfluous.

There were a couple problems with error handling in the probe function:
1) If the "drvdata" allocation failed then it lead to a NULL
dereference.
2) On several error paths we decremented "nr_cti_cpu" before it was
incremented which lead to a reference counting bug.
There were also some parts of the error handling which were not bugs but
were messy. The error handling was confusing to read. It printed some
unnecessary error messages.
The simplest way to fix these problems was to create a cti_pm_setup()
function that did all the power management setup in one go. That way
when we call cti_pm_release() we don't have to deal with the
complications of a partially configured power management config.
I reversed the "if (drvdata->ctidev.cpu >= 0)" condition in
cti_pm_release() so that it mirros the new cti_pm_setup() function.

There is a regular need in the kernel to provide a way to declare having a

always use “flexible array members”[1] for these cases. The older style of

Pull documentation updates from Jonathan Corbet:
"A fair amount of stuff this time around, dominated by yet another
massive set from Mauro toward the completion of the RST conversion. I
*really* hope we are getting close to the end of this. Meanwhile,
those patches reach pretty far afield to update document references
around the tree; there should be no actual code changes there. There
will be, alas, more of the usual trivial merge conflicts.
Beyond that we have more translations, improvements to the sphinx
scripting, a number of additions to the sysctl documentation, and lots
of fixes"

of a sysfs reset.
The ETMv4 can be programmed to trace the entire instruction address range

(Described in the ETMv4.x technical reference manual)
sysfs reset was using this method, perf and default driver init were setup
with an address range comparator for the entire address range.
The perf / driver init has been altered to use the method without needing
any comparator address hardware.

On some QCOM platforms like SC7180, SDM845 and SM8150,
reading TMC mode register without proper coresight power
management can lead to async exceptions like the one in
the call trace below in tmc_read_prepare_etb(). This can
happen if the user tries to read the TMC etf data via
device node without setting up source and the sink first.
Fix this by having a check for coresight sysfs mode
before reading TMC mode management register.

On some systems the firmware may not describe all the ports
connected to a component (e.g, for security reasons). This
could be especially problematic for "funnels" where we could
end up in modifying memory beyond the allocated space for
refcounts.
e.g, for a funnel with input ports listed 0, 3, 5, nr_inport = 3.
However the we could access refcnts[5] while checking for
references, like :

possible input/output connections to/from this component
@ nr_inport and nr_outport in platform_data, respectively.
Thus the output connections could be sparse and code is

Coresight device connections are a bit complicated and is not
exposed currently to the user. One has to look at the platform
descriptions (DT bindings or ACPI bindings) to make an understanding.
Given the new naming scheme, it will be helpful to have this information
to choose the appropriate devices for tracing. This patch exposes
the device connections via links in the sysfs directories.
e.g, for a connection devA[OutputPort_X] -> devB[InputPort_Y]
is represented as two symlinks:
/sys/bus/coresight/.../devA/out:X -> /sys/bus/coresight/.../devB
/sys/bus/coresight/.../devB/in:Y -> /sys/bus/coresight/.../devA

Dynamically adds sysfs attributes for all connections defined in the CTI.
Each connection has a triggers<N> sub-directory with name, in_signals,
in_types, out_signals and out_types as read-only parameters in the
directory. in_ or out_ parameters may be omitted if there are no in or
out signals for the connection.
Additionally each device has a nr_cons in the connections sub-directory.
This allows clients to explore the connection and trigger signal details
without needing to refer to device tree or specification of the device.
Standardised type information is provided for certain common functions -
e.g. snk_full for a trigger from a sink indicating full. Otherwise type
defaults to genio.

the CTI and other devices based on the device tree data. The associated
device element is used to enable CTI in conjunction with the path elements.
CTI devices are reference counted so where a single CTI is associated with
multiple elements on the path, it will be enabled on the first associated
device enable, and disabled with the last associated device disable.

Adds support for CTIs whose connections are implementation defined at
hardware design time, and not constrained by v8 architecture.
These CTIs have no standard connection setup, all the settings have to
be defined in the device tree files. The patch creates a set of connections

The v8 architecture defines the relationship between a PE, its optional ETM
and a CTI. Unlike non-architectural CTIs which are implementation defined,
this has a fixed set of connections which can therefore be represented as a
simple tag in the device tree.
This patch defines the tags needed to create an entry for this PE/ETM/CTI
relationship, and provides functionality to implement the connection model
in the CTI driver.

When tracing etm data of multiple threads on multiple cpus through perf
interface, some link devices are shared between paths of different cpus.
It creates race conditions when different cpus wants to enable/disable
the same link device at the same time.
Example 1:
Two cpus want to enable different ports of a coresight funnel, thus
calling the funnel enable operation at the same time. But the funnel
enable operation isn't reentrantable.
Example 2:
For an enabled coresight dynamic replicator with refcnt=1, one cpu wants
to disable it, while another cpu wants to enable it. Ideally we still have
an enabled replicator with refcnt=1 at the end. But in reality the result
is uncertain.
Since coresight devices claim themselves when enabled for self-hosted
usage, the race conditions above usually make the link devices not usable
after many cycles.
To fix the race conditions, this patch uses spinlocks to serialize
enabling/disabling link devices.

Coresight hardware is only likely to appear on Arm systems and currently
the core code has Arm-specific barrier operations in it so can't be

make no practical difference currently due to the way subsystems are

1) Setting a start or a stop address should not automatically set the

Some hardware will ignore bit TRCPDCR.PU which is used to signal
to hardware that power should not be removed from the trace unit.
Let's mitigate against this by conditionally saving and restoring
the trace unit state when the CPU enters low power states.
This patchset introduces a firmware property named
'arm,coresight-loses-context-with-cpu' - when this is present the
hardware state will be conditionally saved and restored.
A module parameter 'pm_save_enable' is also introduced which can
be configured to override the firmware property. This can be set
to never allow save/restore or to conditionally allow it (only for
self-hosted). The default value is determined by firmware.
We avoid saving the hardware state when self-hosted coresight isn't
in use to reduce PM latency - we can't determine this by reading the
claim tags (TRCCLAIMCLR) as these are 'trace' registers which need
power and clocking, something we can't easily provide in the PM
context. Therefore we rely on the existing drvdata->mode internal
state that is set when self-hosted coresight is used (and powered).

"In this cycle we've finally managed to contribute the patch set
sorting out LED naming issues. Besides that there are many changes
scattered among various LED class drivers and triggers.
LED naming related improvements:
- add new 'function' and 'color' fwnode properties and deprecate
'label' property which has been frequently abused for conveying
vendor specific names that have been available in sysfs anyway
- introduce a set of standard LED_FUNCTION* definitions
- introduce a set of standard LED_COLOR_ID* definitions
- add a new {devm_}led_classdev_register_ext() API with the
capability of automatic LED name composition basing on the
properties available in the passed fwnode; the function is
backwards compatible in a sense that it uses 'label' data, if
present in the fwnode, for creating LED name
- add tools/leds/get_led_device_info.sh script for retrieving LED
vendor, product and bus names, if applicable; it also performs
basic validation of an LED name
- update following drivers and their DT bindings to use the new LED
registration API:
- leds-an30259a, leds-gpio, leds-as3645a, leds-aat1290, leds-cr0014114,
leds-lm3601x, leds-lm3692x, leds-lp8860, leds-lt3593, leds-sc27xx-blt
Other LED class improvements:
- replace {devm_}led_classdev_register() macros with inlines
- allow to call led_classdev_unregister() unconditionally
- switch to use fwnode instead of be stuck with OF one
LED triggers improvements:
- led-triggers:
- fix dereferencing of null pointer
- fix a memory leak bug
- ledtrig-gpio:
- GPIO 0 is valid
Drop superseeded apu2/3 support from leds-apu since for apu2+ a newer,

- drop iosize field from priv data
- drop enum_apu_led_platform_types
- drop superseeded apu2/3 led support
- add pr_fmt prefix for better log output
- fix error message on probing failure
Other misc fixes and improvements to existing LED class drivers:
- leds-ns2, leds-max77650:
- add of_node_put() before return
- leds-pwm, leds-is31fl32xx:
- use struct_size() helper
- leds-lm3697, leds-lm36274, leds-lm3532:

If less space is available in the perf ring buffer than the ETR buffer,
barrier packets inserted in the trace stream by tmc_sync_etr_buf() are
skipped over when the head of the buffer is moved forward, resulting in
traces that can't be decoded.
This patch decouples the process of syncing ETR buffers and the addition
of barrier packets in order to perform the latter once the offset in the
trace buffer has been properly computed.

When tracing etm data of multiple threads on multiple cpus through
perf interface, each cpu has a unique etr_perf_buffer while sharing

etm tracing also stops last. This makes perf_data check fail.
Fix it by checking etr_buf instead of etr_perf_buffer.

may exceed the available space in perf aux buffer. It isn't suitable

Synchronization is recommended before disabling the trace registers
to prevent any start or stop points being speculative at the point
of disabling the unit (section 7.3.77 of ARM IHI 0064D).
Synchronization is also recommended after programming the trace

Let's ensure these syncronization points are present in the code

Currently, the window size is limited to the maximum number of sg entries
in one table. This is because the code addresses individual blocks within
the window by their numeric index. In reality, though, the blocks most
often are iterated through sequentially. By rewriting the logic to use sg
pointers instead of block indices we loose the necessity to dereference
them directly and gain the ability to use multiple chained tables if
necessary.
Get rid of the limitation by replacing index-based block accesses with
sequential block accesses.

Introduces a concept of external buffers, which is a mechanism for creating
trace sinks that would receive trace data from MSC buffers and transfer it
elsewhere.
A external buffer can implement its own window allocation/deallocation if
it has to. It must provide a callback that's used to notify it when a
window fills up, so that it can then start a DMA transaction from that
window 'elsewhere'. This window remains in a 'locked' state and won't be
used for storing new trace data until the buffer 'unlocks' it with a
provided API call, at which point the window can be used again for storing
trace data.
This relies on a functional "last block" interrupt, so not all versions of
Trace Hub can use this feature, which does not reflect on existing users.

Here is the "big" driver core and debugfs changes for 5.3-rc1
It's a lot of different patches, all across the tree due to some api
changes and lots of debugfs cleanups. Because of this, there is going
to be some merge issues with your tree at the moment, I'll follow up
with the expected resolutions to make it easier for you.
Other than the debugfs cleanups, in this set of changes we have:
- bus iteration function cleanups (will cause build warnings
with s390 and coresight drivers in your tree)
- scripts/get_abi.pl tool to display and parse Documentation/ABI
entries in a simple way
- cleanups to Documenatation/ABI/ entries to make them parse
easier due to typos and other minor things
- default_attrs use for some ktype users
- driver model documentation file conversions to .rst
- compressed firmware file loading
- deferred probe fixes
All of these have been in linux-next for a while, with a bunch of merge
issues that Stephen has been patient with me for. Other than the merge
issues, functionality is working properly in linux-next :)

In multi-window mode, the read iterator is supposed to start from the
window with the oldest data, which is, chronologically, the next window
after the one with the newest data. This, however, fails to take into
account the potentially empty windows, so in short trace sessions it's
possible to have a lot of zeroes read from the character device first.
Fix this by skipping over the empty windows in initialization of the
read iterator.

At the moment, the code assumes that all blocks are page-sized, but in

There is an arbitrary difference between the prototypes of
bus_find_device() and class_find_device() preventing their callers
from passing the same pair of data and match() arguments to both of
them, which is the const qualifier used in the prototype of
class_find_device(). If that qualifier is also used in the
bus_find_device() prototype, it will be possible to pass the same
match() callback function to both bus_find_device() and
class_find_device(), which will allow some optimizations to be made in
order to avoid code duplication going forward. Also with that, constify
the "data" parameter as it is passed as a const to the match function.
For this reason, change the prototype of bus_find_device() to match
the prototype of class_find_device() and adjust its callers to use the
const qualifier in accordance with the new prototype of it.

So far we have reused the name of the "platform" device for
the CoreSight device. But this is not very intuitive when
we move to ACPI. Also, the ACPI device names have ":" in them
(e.g, ARMHC97C:01), which the perf tool doesn't like very much.
This patch introduces a generic naming scheme, givin more intuitive
names for the devices that appear on the CoreSight bus.
The names follow the pattern "prefix" followed by "index" (e.g, etm5).
We maintain a list of allocated devices per "prefix" to make sure
we don't allocate a new name when it is reprobed (e.g, due to
unsatisifed device dependencies). So, we maintain the list
of "fwnodes" of the parent devices to allocate a consistent name.
All devices except the ETMs get an index allocated in the order
of probing. ETMs get an index based on the CPU they are attached to.
TMC devices are named using "tmc_etf", "tmc_etb", and "tmc_etr"
prefixes depending on the configuration of the device.
The replicators and funnels are not classified as dynamic/static
anymore. One could easily figure that out by checking the presence
of "mgmt" registers under sysfs.

We rely on the device names to find a CoreSight device on the
coresight bus. The device name however is obtained from the platform,
which is bound to the real platform/amba device. As we are about
to use different naming scheme for the coresight devices, we can't
rely on the platform device name to find the corresponding
coresight device. Instead we use the platform agnostic
"fwnode handle" of the parent device to find the devices.

We are about to introduce methods to clean up the platform data
as we switch to tracking the device reference from "name" to "fwnode
handles" for device connections. This requires us to drop the fwnode
handle references when the data is no longer required - i.e, when
the device probe fails or the device gets unregistered.
In order to consolidate the invocation of the cleanup, we delay the
platform probing to the very last minute, possibly before invoking
the coresight_register. Then, we leave the coresight core code to
do the clean up. i.e, if the coresight_register fails, it takes
care of freeing the data. Otherwise, coresight_unregister will
do the necessary operations.

for all internal purposes. All other requests (e.g, power management,
DMA operations) must use the "real" device which is the parent device.
Since the CATU driver also uses the TMC-SG infrastructure, update
the callers to ensure they pass the appropriate device argument
for the tables.

This patch avoids setting the truncated flag when operating in snapshot
mode since the trace buffer is expected to be truncated and discontinuous
from one snapshot to another. Moreover when the truncated flag is set
the perf core stops enabling the event, waiting for user space to consume
the data. In snapshot mode this is clearly not what we want since it
results in stale data.

Here is the "real" big set of char/misc driver patches for 5.2-rc1
Loads of different driver subsystem stuff in here, all over the places:
- thunderbolt driver updates
- habanalabs driver updates
- nvmem driver updates
- extcon driver updates
- intel_th driver updates
- mei driver updates
- coresight driver updates
- soundwire driver cleanups and updates
- fastrpc driver updates
- other minor driver updates
- chardev minor fixups
Feels like this tree is getting to be a dumping ground of "small driver
subsystems" these days. Which is fine with me, if it makes things
easier for those subsystem maintainers.
All of these have been in linux-next for a while with no reported

Now that we have a way to switch between MSC buffer windows, add code to
track the current window. The hardware register NWSA that contains the
address of the next window is unfortunately not always usable, and since
the driver has full control of the window switching, there is no reason
not to keep this on the software side.

Instead of using a home-grown array of pointers to the DMA pages, switch
over to scatterlist data types and accessors, which has all the convenient
accessors, can be used to batch-map DMA memory and is convenient for
passing around between different layers, which will be useful when MSU
buffer management has to cross the boundaries of the MSU driver.

The only type of IRQ triggering event that is useful to us at the moment
is the "last block" interrupt of the MSU. This interrupt can only be
enabled via "MINTCTL" register that doesn't exist in earlier version of
the Intel TH.
Enumerate the presence of MINTCTL via per-device driver data structure
and only instantiate the IRQ resource for subdevices if this capability
is present.

Since Intel TH is capable of MSI interrupt signalling, make use of it.
The way it works is, each of the 7 interrupt triggering events has its
own vector in this mode, as opposed to interrupt line delivery, where
all events are signalled via the same line. Failing to enable MSI, the
driver falls back to using an interrupt line.

Currently, the IRQ is passed between the glue layers and the core as a
separate argument, while the MMIO resources are passed as resources.
This also limits the number of IRQs thus used to one, while the current
versions of Intel TH use a different MSI vector for each interrupt
triggering event, of which there are 7.
Change this to pass IRQ in the resources array.

In some versions of Intel TH, the Software Trace Hub (STH) has a second
MMIO BAR dedicated to the input from Intel PT. This calls for a new

If a subdevice requires an MMIO region that wasn't in the resources passed
down from the glue layer, don't instantiate it, but don't error out. This
means that that particular subdevice doesn't exist for this instance of
Intel TH, which is a perfectly normal situation. This applies, for example,
to the "rtit" source device.

Currently, MMIO resource numbers in the TH driver core correspond to
PCI BAR numbers, because in the beginning there was only the PCI glue
layer. This created some confusion when the ACPI glue layer was added.
To avoid confusion and remove glue-specific code from the driver core,
split the resource indices between core and glue layers and change the
API so that the driver core receives the MMIO resources in the same
fixed order. At the same time, make the IRQ always be a parameter to
intel_th_alloc() instead of sometimes passing it as a resource.

Currently, the pages that are allocated for the single mode of MSC are not
mapped into the device's dma space and the code is incorrectly using
*_to_phys() in place of a dma address. This fails with IOMMU enabled and
is otherwise bad practice.

Since CoreSight hardware topology can use a 'hidden' funnel in the
trace data path, this kind funnel doesn't have register for accessing
and is used by default from hardware design perspective. Below is an
example for related hardware topology:
+------+ +------+
| cpu0 |->| ETM |-\
+------+ +------+ \-> +--------+ +-----+
...... | Funnel |->| ETF |-\ Hidden funnel
+------+ +------+ /-> +--------+ +-----+ \ |

+------+ +------+ \-> +--------+ +-----+ /
...... | Funnel |->| ETF |-/
+------+ +------+ /-> +--------+ +-----+
| cpu7 |->| ETM |-/
+------+ +------+
The CoreSight funnel driver only supports dynamic funnel with
registration register resource, thus it cannot support for the static
funnel case and it's impossible to create trace data path for this case.
This patch is to extend CoreSight funnel driver to support both for
static funnel and dynamic funnel. For the dynamic funnel it reuses the
code existed in the driver, for static funnel the driver will support
device probe if without providing register resource and the driver skips
registers accessing when detect the register base is NULL.
