that function from having to always set the values

prevents function side effects--always to have to

Replace vkms' prepare_fb and cleanup_fb functions with the generic
code for shadow-buffered planes. No functional changes.
This change also fixes a problem where IGT kms_flip tests would
create a segmentation fault within vkms. The driver's prepare_fb
function did not report an error if a BO's vmap operation failed.
The kernel later tried to operate on the non-mapped memory areas.
The shared shadow-plane helpers handle errors correctly, so that
the driver now avoids the segmantation fault.

Some panels support backlight control over DP AUX channel using
VESA's standard backlight control interface.
Using new DRM eDP backlight helpers, add support to create and
register a backlight for those panels in drm_panel to simplify
the panel drivers.
The panel driver with access to "struct drm_dp_aux" can create and
register a backlight device using following code snippet in its
probe() function:
err = drm_panel_dp_aux_backlight(panel, aux);
if (err)
return err;
Then drm_panel will handle backlight_(enable|disable) calls
similar to the case when drm_panel_of_backlight() is used.
Currently, we are not supporting one feature where the source
device can combine the backlight brightness levels set through
DP AUX and the BL_PWM_DIM eDP connector pin. Since it's not
required for the basic backlight controls, it can be added later.

The i2c_transfer() function returns negatives or else the number of
messages transferred. This code does not work because ARRAY_SIZE()
is type size_t and so that means negative values of "r" are type
promoted to high positive values which are greater than the ARRAY_SIZE().
Fix this by changing the < to != which works regardless of type
promotion.

In order for a START/STOP transaction to take
place on the bus, the data written/read has to be

That is, you cannot generate a write with 0 bytes,
just to get the ACK from a device, just so you can
probe that device if it is on the bus and so to
discover all devices on the bus--you'll have to
read at least one byte. Writes of 0 bytes generate
no START/STOP on this I2C IP--the bus is not

There'a limit to how big a kmalloc buffer can be, and as memory gets
fragmented it becomes more difficult to get big buffers. The downside of
smaller buffers is that the driver has to split the transfer up which
hampers performance. Compression might also take a hit because of the
splitting.
Solve this by allocating the transfer buffer using vmalloc and create a
SG table to be passed on to the USB subsystem. vmalloc_32() is used to
avoid DMA bounce buffers on USB controllers that can only access 32-bit
addresses.
This also solves the problem that split transfers can give host side
tearing since flushing is decoupled from rendering.
usb_sg_wait() doesn't have timeout handling builtin, so it is wrapped in
a timer like 4 out of 6 users in the kernel have done.

d3_entered flag is used to mark for vgpu_reset a previous power
transition from D3->D0, typically for VM resume from S3, so that gvt
could skip PPGTT invalidation in current vgpu_reset during resuming.
In case S0ix exit, although there is D3->D0, guest driver continue to
use vgpu as normal, with d3_entered set, until next shutdown/reboot or
power transition.
If a reboot follows a S0ix exit, device power state transite as:
D0->D3->D0->D0(reboot), while system power state transites as:
S0->S0 (reboot). There is no vgpu_reset until D0(reboot), thus
d3_entered won't be cleared, the vgpu_reset will skip PPGTT invalidation
however those PPGTT entries are no longer valid. Err appears like:
gvt: vgpu 2: vfio_pin_pages failed for gfn 0xxxxx, ret -22
gvt: vgpu 2: fail: spt xxxx guest entry 0xxxxx type 2
gvt: vgpu 2: fail: shadow page xxxx guest entry 0xxxxx type 2.

- Added option for per CPU threads to the hwlat tracer
- Have hwlat tracer handle hotplug CPUs
- New tracer: osnoise, that detects latency caused by interrupts, softirqs
and scheduling of other tasks.
- Added timerlat tracer that creates a thread and measures in detail what
sources of latency it has for wake ups.
- Removed the "success" field of the sched_wakeup trace event.
This has been hardcoded as "1" since 2015, no tooling should be looking
at it now. If one exists, we can revert this commit, fix that tool and
try to remove it again in the future.
- tgid mapping fixed to handle more than PID_MAX_DEFAULT pids/tgids.
- New boot command line option "tp_printk_stop", as tp_printk causes trace
events to write to console. When user space starts, this can easily live
lock the system. Having a boot option to stop just after boot up is
useful to prevent that from happening.
- Have ftrace_dump_on_oops boot command line option take numbers that match
the numbers shown in /proc/sys/kernel/ftrace_dump_on_oops.
- Bootconfig clean ups, fixes and enhancements.
- New ktest script that tests bootconfig options.
- Add tracepoint_probe_register_may_exist() to register a tracepoint
without triggering a WARN*() if it already exists. BPF has a path from
user space that can do this. All other paths are considered a bug.

Some NVIDIA GPUs do not support direct atomic access to system memory via
PCIe. Instead this must be emulated by granting the GPU exclusive access
to the memory. This is achieved by replacing CPU page table entries with
special swap entries that fault on userspace access.
The driver then grants the GPU permission to update the page undergoing
atomic access via the GPU page tables. When CPU access to the page is
required a CPU fault is raised which calls into the device driver via MMU
notifiers to revoke the atomic access. The original page table entries
are then restored allowing CPU access to proceed.

MMU notifier ranges have a migrate_pgmap_owner field which is used by
drivers to store a pointer. This is subsequently used by the driver
callback to filter MMU_NOTIFY_MIGRATE events. Other notifier event types
can also benefit from this filtering, so rename the 'migrate_pgmap_owner'
field to 'owner' and create a new notifier initialisation function to
initialise this field.

In case when psp_init_asd_microcode() fails to load ASD microcode file,
psp_v12_0_init_microcode() tries to print the firmware filename that
failed to load before bailing out.
This is wrong because:
- the firmware filename it would want it print is an incorrect one as
psp_init_asd_microcode() and psp_v12_0_init_microcode() are loading
different filenames
- it tries to print fw_name, but that's not yet been initialized by that
time, so it prints random stack contents, e.g.
amdgpu 0000:04:00.0: Direct firmware load for amdgpu/renoir_asd.bin failed with error -2
amdgpu 0000:04:00.0: amdgpu: fail to initialize asd microcode
amdgpu 0000:04:00.0: amdgpu: psp v12.0: Failed to load firmware "\xfeTO\x8e\xff\xff"
Fix that by bailing out immediately, instead of priting the bogus error
message.

This reverts commit 4192f7b576.
It is not true (as stated in the reverted commit changelog) that we never
unmap the BAR on failure; it actually does happen properly on
amdgpu_driver_load_kms() -> amdgpu_driver_unload_kms() ->
amdgpu_device_fini() error path.
What's worse, this commit actually completely breaks resource freeing on
probe failure (like e.g. failure to load microcode), as
amdgpu_driver_unload_kms() notices adev->rmmio being NULL and bails too
early, leaving all the resources that'd normally be freed in
amdgpu_acpi_fini() and amdgpu_device_fini() still hanging around, leading
to all sorts of oopses when someone tries to, for example, access the
sysfs and procfs resources which are still around while the driver is
gone.

Experience has shown that 1ms is sometimes not enough, even when the GPU
is running at its maximum frequency, not to mention that an MMU operation

likely to be the case if devfreq is active.
Let's pick a significantly bigger timeout value (1ms -> 100ms) to be on

Now that we can pass our own workqueue to drm_sched_init(), we can use
an ordered workqueue on for both the scheduler timeout tdr and our own
reset work (which we use when the reset is not caused by a fault/timeout

guarantees that the timeout handlers and reset handler can't run

Mali Midgard/Bifrost GPUs have 3 hardware queues but only a global GPU
reset. This leads to extra complexity when we need to synchronize timeout
works with the reset work. One solution to address that is to have an
ordered workqueue at the driver level that will be used by the different
schedulers to queue their timeout work. Thanks to the serialization
provided by the ordered workqueue we are guaranteed that timeout
handlers are executed sequentially, and can thus easily reset the GPU

Commit 6b36fa6143 ("drm/amdgpu: add umc v8_7_0 IP headers") adds the new
file ./drivers/gpu/drm/amd/include/asic_reg/umc/umc_8_7_0_sh_mask.h with
DOS line endings, which is very uncommon for the kernel repository.
Rectify the line endings in this file with dos2unix.
Identified by a checkpatch evaluation on the whole kernel repository and
spot-checking for really unexpected checkpatch rule violations.

On long transfers to the EEPROM device,
i.e. write, it is observed that the driver aborts
the transfer.
The reason for this is that the driver isn't
patient enough--the IC_STATUS register's contents
is 0x27, which is MST_ACTIVITY | TFE | TFNF |
ACTIVITY. That is, while the transmission FIFO is
empty, we, the I2C master device, are still
driving the bus.
Implement the correct procedure to disable
the block, as described in the DesignWare I2C
Databook, section 3.8.3 Disabling DW_apb_i2c on
page 56. Now there are no premature aborts on long

Debugfs RAS EEPROM files are available when
the ASIC supports RAS, and when the debugfs is
enabled, an also when "ras_enable" module
parameter is set to 0. However in this case,
we get a kernel oops when accessing some of

for this is that struct amdgpu_ras::adev is
unset. This commit sets it, thus enabling access
to those facilities. Note that this facilitates
EEPROM access and not necessarily RAS features or

simplifies the code and exposes areas of
optimization and more or less complexity, and take
advantage of that.
Read and write the table in one go; use a separate
stage to decode or encode the data, as opposed to
on the fly, which keeps the I2C bus busy. Use a
single read/write to read/write the table or at
most two if the number of records we're
reading/writing wraps around.
Check the check-sum of a table in EEPROM on init.
Update the checksum at the same time as when

RAS_MAX_RECORD_NUM may mean the maximum record
number, as in the maximum house number on your
street, or it may mean the maximum number of
records, as in the count of records, which is also
a number. To make this distinction whether the
number is ordinal (index) or cardinal (count),
rename this macro to RAS_MAX_RECORD_COUNT.
This makes it easy to understand what it refers
to, especially when we compute quantities such as,
how many records do we have left in the table,
especially when there are so many other numbers,
quantities and numerical macros around.
Also rename the long,
amdgpu_ras_eeprom_get_record_max_length() to the
more succinct and clear,
amdgpu_ras_eeprom_max_record_count().
When computing the threshold, which also deals
with counts, i.e. "how many", use cardinal
"max_eeprom_records_count", than the quantitative
"max_eeprom_records_len".
Simplify the logic here and there, as well.

checks for us, so we don't need to do them, and so
simplify the managed I2C transfer functions.
Also, for Arcturus and Navi10, fix setting the
command type from "cmd->CmdConfig" to "cmd->Cmd".
The latter is what appears to be taking in
the enumeration I2C_CMD_... as an integer,
not a bit-flag.
For Sienna, the "Cmd" field seems to have been
eliminated, and command type and flags all live in
the "CmdConfig" field--this is left untouched.
Fix: Detect and add changing of direction
bit-flag, as this is necessary for the SMU to
detect the direction change in the 1-d array of

[Why]
svm ranges can have mixed pages from device or system memory.
A good example is, after a prange has been allocated in VRAM and a
copy-on-write is triggered by a fork. This invalidates some pages
inside the prange. Endding up in mixed pages.
[How]
By classifying each page inside a prange, based on its type. Device or
system memory, during dma mapping call. If page corresponds
to VRAM domain, a flag is set to its dma_addr entry for each GPU.
Then, at the GPU page table mapping. All group of contiguous pages within
the same type are mapped with their proper pte flags.
v2:
Instead of using ttm_res to calculate vram pfns in the svm_range. It is now
done by setting the vram real physical address into drm_addr array.
This makes more flexible VRAM management, plus removes the need to have
a BO reference in the svm_range.

anything sent to SMU after this command would be stalled as the
PMFW would not be in a state to take further job requests.
Technically this is right in case of S3 scenario. But, this might
not be the case during s0ix as the PMC driver would be the last
to send the SMU on the OS_HINT. If SMU gets a PrepareMp1ForUnload

The ttm caching flags (ttm_cached, ttm_write_combined etc) are
used to determine a buffer object's mapping attributes in both
CPU page table and GPU page table (when that buffer is also
accessed by GPU). Currently the ttm caching flags are set in
function amdgpu_ttm_io_mem_reserve which is called during
DRM_AMDGPU_GEM_MMAP ioctl. This has a problem since the GPU
mapping of the buffer object (ioctl DRM_AMDGPU_GEM_VA) can
happen earlier than the mmap time, thus the GPU page table
update code can't pick up the right ttm caching flags to
decide the right GPU page table attributes.
This patch moves the ttm caching flags setting to function
amdgpu_vram_mgr_new - this function is called during the
first step of a buffer object create (eg, DRM_AMDGPU_GEM_CREATE)
so the later both CPU and GPU mapping function calls will
pick up this flag for CPU/GPU page table set up.

Failing to read the MTP over DSI should not bring down the
system and make us bail out from using the display, it turns
out that this happens when toggling the display off and on,
and that write is often still working so the display output
is just fine. Printing an error is enough.

Reinstate the mmap ioctl for all current integrated platforms.
The intention was really to have it disabled for discrete graphics
where we enforce a single mmap mode.
This was reported to break ADL-P with the media stack, which was not the
intention. Although longer term we do still plan to sunset this ioctl
even for integrated, in favour of using mmap_offset instead.

Add a single point of truth for figuring out the primary/secondary crtc
for bigjoiner instead of duplicating the magic pipe +/- 1 in multiple
places.
Also fix the pipe validity checks to properly take non-contiguous pipes
into account. The current checks may theoretically overflow
i915->pipe_to_crtc_mapping[pipe], albeit with a warning, due to fused
off pipes, as INTEL_NUM_PIPES() returns the actual number of pipes on
the platform, and the check is for INTEL_NUM_PIPES() == pipe + 1.
Prefer primary/secondary terminology going forward.

destroying the FD scheduler entities. For this to work properly, we
need to make sure the jobs popped from the scheduler entities have
been queued at the HW level before declaring the entity idle, otherwise
we might iterate over a list that doesn't contain those jobs.

This workaround is specific for a particular panel on Google
chromebook project. When user space daemon enter idle state.
It request adjust brightness to 0, turn backlight_enable signal
off and keep eDP main link active.
On general LCD, this behavior might not be a problem.
But on this panel, its tcon would expect source to execute
full eDP power off sequence after drop backlight_enable signal.
Without eDP power off sequence. Even source try to turn
backlight_enable signal on and restore proper brightness level.
This panel is not able to light on again.
This WA ignored the request from user space daemon to disable
backlight_enable signal and keep it on always. When user space
request kernel to turn eDP display off, kernel driver still
can control backlight_enable signal properly. It would not
impact standard eDP power off sequence.

Currently this has no practial relevance I think because there's not
many who can pull off a setup with panfrost and another gpu in the
same system. But the rules are that if you're setting an exclusive
fence, indicating a gpu write access in the implicit fencing system,
then you need to wait for all fences, not just the previous exclusive
fence.
panfrost against itself has no problem, because it always sets the
exclusive fence (but that's probably something that will need to be
fixed for vulkan and/or multi-engine gpus, or you'll suffer badly).
Also no problem with that against display.

Handling of the interrupt callback lists is done in dpu_core_irq.c,
under the "cb_lock" spinlock. When these operations results in the need
for enableing or disabling the IRQ in the hardware the code jumps to
dpu_hw_interrupts.c, which protects its operations with "irq_lock"
spinlock.
When an interrupt fires, dpu_hw_intr_dispatch_irq() inspects the
hardware state while holding the "irq_lock" spinlock and jumps to
dpu_core_irq_callback_handler() to invoke the registered handlers, which
traverses the callback list under the "cb_lock" spinlock.
As such, in the event that these happens concurrently we'll end up with
a deadlock.
Prior to '1c1e7763a6d4 ("drm/msm/dpu: simplify IRQ enabling/disabling")'
the enable/disable of the hardware interrupt was done outside the
"cb_lock" region, optimitically by using an atomic enable-counter for
each interrupt and an warning print if someone changed the list between
the atomic_read and the time the operation concluded.
Rather than re-introducing the large array of atomics, this change
embraces the fact that dpu_core_irq and dpu_hw_interrupts are deeply
entangled and make them share the single "irq_lock".
Following this step it's suggested that we squash the two parts into a
single irq handling thing.

Normal DP suspend operation contains two steps, display off followed
by dp suspend, to complete system wide suspending cycle if display is
up at that time. In this case, DP phy will be powered off at display
off. However there is an exception case that depending on the timing
of dongle plug in during system wide suspending, sometimes display off
procedure may be skipped and dp suspend was called directly. In this
case, dp phy is stay at powered on (phy->power_count = 1) so that at
next resume dp driver crash at main link clock enable due to phy is
not physically powered on. This patch will call dp_ctrl_off_link_stream()
to tear down main link and power off phy at dp_pm_suspend() if main link
had been brought up.
Changes in V2:
-- stashed changes into dp_ctrl.c
-- add is_phy_on to monitor phy state
Changes in V3:
-- delete is_phy_on
-- call dp_ctrl_off_link_stream() from dp_pm_suspend()
Changes in V4:

-- move main link status checking to dp_pm_suspend

Crtc perf update from frame event work can result in
wrong bandwidth and clock update from dpu if the work
is scheduled after the swap state has happened.
Avoid such issues by moving perf update to complete
commit once the frame is accepted by the hardware.

These prints flood the logs with drm debugging set to enable kms and
driver logging (DRM_UT_KMS and DRM_UT_DRIVER). Let's move these prints
to the atomic bucket (DRM_UT_ATOMIC) as they're related to the atomic
paths.

These are verbose prints that tell us about the framebuffer state. Let's
move them to drm_dbg_state() so that they're only printed if we're
interested in verbose state logging while drm debugging.

Merge dpu_core_irq_enable() into dpu_core_irq_register_callback() and
dpu_core_irq_disable() into dpu_core_irq_unregister_callback(), because
they are called in pairs. There is no need to have separate
enable/disable pair, we can enable hardware IRQ when first callback is
registered and when the last callback is unregistered.

The IRQ table in the dpu_hw_interrupts.h is big, ugly, and hard to
maintain. There are only few interrupts used from that table. Newer

Always call dpu_hw_intr_clear_intr_status_nolock() from the

Let's look at the irq status bits after a transfer and see if we got a
nack or a defer or a timeout, instead of telling drm layers that
everything was fine, while still printing an error message. I wasn't
sure about NACK+DEFER so I lumped all those various errors along with a
nack so that the drm core can figure out that things are just not going
well. The important thing is that we're now returning -ETIMEDOUT when
the message times out and nacks for bad addresses.
