Noralf Trønnes 6025a15706 drm/tilcdc: Use drm_gem_fb_create()
drm_fb_cma_create() is just a wrapper around drm_gem_fb_create() now,
so use the function directly.

Daniel Vetter 7d902c05b4 drm: Nuke drm_atomic_helper_connector_dpms
It's dead code, the core handles all this directly now.

The only special case is nouveau and tda988x which used one function
for both legacy modeset code and -nv50 atomic world instead of 2
vtables. But amounts to exactly the same.

v2: Rebase over the panel/brideg refactorings in stm/ltdc.

Rob Herring 86418f90a4 drm: convert drivers to use of_graph_get_remote_node
Convert drivers to use the new of_graph_get_remote_node() helper
instead of parsing the endpoint node and then getting the remote device
node. Now drivers can just specify the device node and which
port/endpoint and get back the connected remote device node. The details
of the graph binding are nicely abstracted into the core OF graph code.

This changes some error messages to debug messages (in the graph core).
Graph connections are often "no connects" depending on the particular
board, so we want to avoid spurious messages. Plus the kernel is not a
DT validator.

Jyri Sarha 11abbc9f39 drm/tilcdc: Set framebuffer DMA address to HW only if CRTC is enabled
Touching HW while clocks are off is a serious error and for instance
breaks suspend functionality. After this patch tilcdc_crtc_update_fb()
always updates the primary plane's framebuffer pointer, increases fb's
reference count and stores vblank event. tilcdc_crtc_update_fb() only
writes the fb's DMA address to HW if the crtc is enabled, as
tilcdc_crtc_enable() takes care of writing the address on enable.

This patch also refactors the tilcdc_crtc_update_fb() a bit. Number of
subsequent small changes had made it almost unreadable. There should
be no other functional changes but checking the CRTC's enable
state. However, the locking goes a bit differently and some of the
redundant checks have been removed in this new version.

The enable_lock should be enough to protect the access to
tilcdc_crtc->enabled. The irq_lock protects the access to last_vblank
and next_fb. The check for vrefresh and last_vblank being valid is
redundant, as the vrefresh should be always valid if the CRTC is
enabled and now last_vblank should be too, because it is initialized
to current time when CRTC raster is enabled. If for some reason the
values are not correctly initialized the division by zero warning is
quite appropriate.

Gabriel Krisman Bertazi e4563f6ba7 drm: Rely on mode_config data for fb_helper initialization
Instead of receiving the num_crts as a parameter, we can read it
directly from the mode_config structure. I audited the drivers that
invoke this helper and I believe all of them initialize the mode_config
struct accordingly, prior to calling the fb_helper.

I used the following coccinelle hack to make this transformation, except
for the function headers and comment updates. The first and second
rules are split because I couldn't find a way to remove the unused
temporary variables at the same time I removed the parameter.

Dave Airlie 3806a271bf Merge tag 'drm-misc-next-2016-12-30' of git://anongit.freedesktop.org/git/drm-misc into drm-next
First -misc pull for 4.11:
- drm_mm rework + lots of selftests (Chris Wilson)
- new connector_list locking+iterators
- plenty of kerneldoc updates
- format handling rework from Ville
- atomic helper changes from Maarten for better plane corner-case handling
in drivers, plus the i915 legacy cursor patch that needs this
- bridge cleanup from Laurent
- plus plenty of small stuff all over
- also contains a merge of the 4.10 docs tree so that we could apply the
  dma-buf kerneldoc patches

It's a lot more than usual, but due to the merge window blackout it also
covers about 4 weeks, so all in line again on a per-week basis. The more
annoying part with no pull request for 4 weeks is managing cross-tree
work. The -intel pull request I'll follow up with does conflict quite a
bit with -misc here. Longer-term (if drm-misc keeps growing) a
drm-next-queued to accept pull request for the next merge window during
this time might be useful.

I'd also like to backmerge -rc2+this into drm-intel next week, we have
quite a pile of patches waiting for the stuff in here.

Bartosz Golaszewski f97fd383d9 drm: tilcdc: simplify the recovery from sync lost error on rev1
Revision 2 of LCDC suffers from an issue where a SYNC_LOST error
caused by limited memory bandwidth may leave the picture shifted a
couple pixels to the right.

This issue has not been observed on revision 1, while the recovery
mechanism introduces a different issue, where the END_OF_FRAME
interrupt doesn't fire while drm is waiting for vblanks.

On rev1: recover from sync lost errors by simply clearing the
RASTER_ENABLE bit in the RASTER_CTRL register and re-enabling it
again as is suggested by the datasheet.

Instead of linking encoders and bridges in every driver (and getting it

Ville Syrjälä dbd4d5761e drm: Replace 'format->format' comparisons to just 'format' comparisons
Rather than compare the format u32s of two format infos, we can direclty
compare the format info pointers themselves. Noramlly all the ->format
pointers all point to somwehere in the big array, so this is a valid
way to test for equality.

Also drivers may want to point ->format at a private format info struct
instead (eg. for special compressed formats with extra planes), so
just comparing the pixel format values wouldn't necessaritly even work.
But comparing the pointers will also take care of that case.

Bartosz Golaszewski cb42e20ea0 drm/tilcdc: add a workaround for failed clk_set_rate()
Some architectures don't use the common clock framework and don't
implement all the clk interfaces for every clock. This is the case
for da850-lcdk where clk_set_rate() only works for PLL0 and PLL1.

Trying to set the clock rate for the LCDC clock results in -EINVAL
being returned.

As a workaround for that: if the call to clk_set_rate() fails, fall
back to adjusting the clock divider instead. Proper divider value is
calculated by dividing the current clock rate by the required pixel
clock rate in HZ.

This code is based on a hack initially developed internally for
baylibre by Karl Beldan <kbeldan@baylibre.com>.

Jyri Sarha 642e51677d drm/tilcdc: Clean up LCDC functional clock rate setting code
Clean up LCDC functional clock rate setting code.

The LCDC functional clock is set by two functions: mode_set_nofb() and
cpufreq_transition().

When tilcdc_crtc_mode_set_nofb() is called in atomic commit phase the
drm atomic helpers have taken all the necessary drm locks and turned
off the crtc, while tilcdc_commit() is keeping LCDC powered on. For
mode_set_nofb() just a simple clock setting function without any
locking or power management code is enough. The new tilcdc_crtc_set_clk()
is implemented for that purpose.

cpufreq_transition() on the other hand is called from outside DRM and
it needs to take the necessary locks and turn off the CRTC while
keeping the LCDC powered. The reimplemented tilcdc_crtc_update_clk()
is for that purpose and it uses the new tilcdc_crtc_set_clk() to
actually set the clock.

Choose console BPP that supports RGB and remove the old fbdev bpp

Jyri Sarha bcc5a6f5fc drm/tilcdc: Add blue-and-red-crossed devicetree property
Add "blue-and-red-wiring"-device tree property and update devicetree
binding document.

The red and blue components are reversed between 24 and 16 bit modes
on am335x LCDC output pins. To get 24 RGB format the red and blue
wires has to be crossed and this in turn causes 16 colors output to be
in BGR format. With straight wiring the 16 color is RGB and 24 bit is
BGR.

The new property describes whether the red and blue wires are crossed
or not. If the property is not present or its value is not recognized
the legacy mode is assumed. The legacy configuration supports RGB565,
RGB888 and XRGB8888 formats. However, depending on wiring, the red and
blue colors are swapped in either 16 or 24-bit color modes.

Arnd Bergmann 287980e49f remove lots of IS_ERR_VALUE abuses
Most users of IS_ERR_VALUE() in the kernel are wrong, as they
pass an 'int' into a function that takes an 'unsigned long'
argument. This happens to work because the type is sign-extended
on 64-bit architectures before it gets converted into an
unsigned type.

However, anything that passes an 'unsigned short' or 'unsigned int'
argument into IS_ERR_VALUE() is guaranteed to be broken, as are
8-bit integers and types that are wider than 'unsigned long'.

Andrzej Hajda has already fixed a lot of the worst abusers that
were causing actual bugs, but it would be nice to prevent any
users that are not passing 'unsigned long' arguments.

This patch changes all users of IS_ERR_VALUE() that I could find
on 32-bit ARM randconfig builds and x86 allmodconfig. For the
moment, this doesn't change the definition of IS_ERR_VALUE()
because there are probably still architecture specific users
elsewhere.

Almost all the warnings I got are for files that are better off
using 'if (err)' or 'if (err < 0)'.
The only legitimate user I could find that we get a warning for
is the (32-bit only) freescale fman driver, so I did not remove
the IS_ERR_VALUE() there but changed the type to 'unsigned long'.
For 9pfs, I just worked around one user whose calling conventions
are so obscure that I did not dare change the behavior.

I was using this definition for testing:

 #define IS_ERR_VALUE(x) ((unsigned long*)NULL == (typeof (x)*)NULL && \
       unlikely((unsigned long long)(x) >= (unsigned long long)(typeof(x))-MAX_ERRNO))

which ends up making all 16-bit or wider types work correctly with
the most plausible interpretation of what IS_ERR_VALUE() was supposed
to return according to its users, but also causes a compile-time
warning for any users that do not pass an 'unsigned long' argument.

I suggested this approach earlier this year, but back then we ended
up deciding to just fix the users that are obviously broken. After
the initial warning that caused me to get involved in the discussion
(fs/gfs2/dir.c) showed up again in the mainline kernel, Linus
asked me to send the whole thing again.

Tomi Valkeinen 2b2080d7e9 drm/tilcdc: Get rid of complex ping-pong mechanism
Get rid of complex ping-pong mechanism and replace it with simpler
single buffer flipping code.

The LCDC HW appears to be designed mainly static framebuffers in
mind. There are two modes of operation, either static single buffer,
or ping pong double buffering with two static buffers switching back
and forth. Luckily the framebuffer start address is fetched only in
the beginning of the frame and changing the address after that only
takes effect after the next vertical blank. The page flipping code can
simply write the address of the new framebuffer and the page is
flipped automatically after the next vertical blank. Using the ping
pong double buffering makes the flipping code way more complex and it
does not provide any benefit, so it is better to switch to single
buffer operation.

There is still one problem in updating the framebuffer dma address on
the fly. There are two registers defining the framebuffer dma area and
things may break if the dma address is fetched in while the registers
are are being updated.

This is because the lcdc module is not enabled when no monitor is detected
to save power. However the suspend handler just blindly tries to save the
lcdc state by copying out the pertinent registers. However module is off
so no good things happen when you try and access it.

This patch only saves off the registers if the module is enabled, and
then only restores the registers on resume if they were saved off during

Tomi Valkeinen 6f206e9d2a drm/tilcdc: verify fb pitch
LCDC hardware does not support fb pitch that is different (i.e. larger)
than the screen size. The driver currently does no checks for this, and
the results of too big pitch are are flickering and lower fps.

This issue easily happens when using libdrm's modetest tool with non-32
bpp modes. As modetest always allocated 4 bytes per pixel, it implies a
bigger pitch for 16 or 24 bpp modes.

This patch adds a check to reject pitches the hardware cannot support.

Darren Etheridge 3d19306a82 drm/tilcdc: rewrite pixel clock calculation
Updating the tilcdc DRM driver code to calculate the LCD controller
pixel clock more accurately. Based on a suggested implementation by
Tomi Valkeinen.

The current code does not work correctly and produces wrong results
with many requested clock rates. It also oddly uses two different
clocks, a display pll clock and a divider clock (child of display
pll), instead of just using the clock coming to the lcdc.

This patch removes the use of the display pll clock, and rewrites the
code to calculate the clock rates. The idea is simply to request a
clock rate of pixelclock*2, as the LCD controller has an internal
divider which we set to 2.

Maxime Ripard 4314e19ef4 drm/fb_cma_helper: Remove implicit call to disable_unused_functions
The drm_fbdev_cma_init function always calls the
drm_helper_disable_unused_functions. Since it's part of the usual probe
process, all the drivers using that helper will end up having their encoder
and CRTC disable functions called at probe if their device has not been
reported as enabled.

This could be fixed by reading out from the registers the current state of
the device if it is enabled, but even that will not handle the case where
the device is actually disabled.

Moreover, the drivers using the atomic modesetting expect that their enable
and disable callback to be called when the device is already enabled or
disabled (respectively).

We can however fix this issue by moving the call to
drm_helper_disable_unused_functions out of drm_fbdev_cma_init and make the
drivers needing it (all the drivers calling drm_fbdev_cma_init and not
using the atomic modesetting) explicitly call it.

Done with coccinelle for the most part. However, it thinks '...' is
part of the semantic patch, so I put an 'int DOTDOTDOT' placeholder
in its place and got rid of it with sed afterwards.

Ville Syrjälä 1eb83451ba drm: Pass the user drm_mode_fb_cmd2 as const to .fb_create()
Drivers shouldn't clobber the passed in addfb ioctl parameters.
i915 was doing just that. To prevent it from happening again,
pass the struct around as const, starting all the way from

Ville Syrjälä b44f84081b drm: Stop using drm_vblank_count() as the hw frame counter
drm_vblank_count() returns the software counter. We should not pretend
it's the hw counter since we use the hw counter to figuere out what the
software counter value should be. So instead provide a new function
drm_vblank_no_hw_counter() for drivers that don't have a real hw
counter. The new function simply returns 0, which is about the only
thing it can do.

This continues the pattern started in commit cc1ef118fc ("drm/irq:

to match the new prototypes.

Since 39b2bbe3d7 (gpio: add flags argument to gpiod_get*() functions)
which appeared in v3.17-rc1, the gpiod_get* functions take an additional
parameter that allows to specify direction and initial value for output.

Furthermore there is devm_gpiod_get_optional which is designed to get
optional gpios.

Jyri Sarha 4e72215802 drm/tilcdc: Add DRM_TILCDC_SLAVE_COMPAT for ti,tilcdc, slave binding support
Adds a CONFIG_DRM_TILCDC_SLAVE_COMPAT module for "ti,tilcdc,slave"
node conversion. The implementation is in tilcdc_slave_compat.c and it
uses tilcdc_slave_compat.dts as a basis for creating a DTS
overlay. The DTS overlay adds an external tda998x encoder to tilcdc
that corresponds to the old tda998x based slave encoder.
