Just the flags; only NFS cares even about that, but there are
legitimate uses for such argument. And getting rid of that

[AV: FILE_CREATE was already used by cifs; Miklos' fix folded]
Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>
Add a new inode operation which is called on the last component of an open.
Using this the filesystem can look up, possibly create and open the file in one
atomic operation. If it cannot perform this (e.g. the file type turned out to
be wrong) it may signal this by returning NULL instead of an open struct file
pointer.
i_op->atomic_open() is only called if the last component is negative or needs
lookup. Handling cached positive dentries here doesn't add much value: these
can be opened using f_op->open(). If the cached file turns out to be invalid,
the open can be retried, this time using ->atomic_open() with a fresh dentry.
For now leave the old way of using open intents in lookup and revalidate in
place. This will be removed once all the users are converted.
David Howells noticed that if ->atomic_open() opens the file but does not create
it, handle_truncate() will be called on it even if it is not a regular file.
Fix this by checking the file type in this case too.

WQ_HIGHPRI was implemented by queueing highpri work items at the head
of the global worklist. Other than queueing at the head, they weren't
handled differently; unfortunately, this could lead to execution
latency of a few seconds on heavily loaded systems.
Now that workqueue code has been updated to deal with multiple
worker_pools per global_cwq, this patch reimplements WQ_HIGHPRI using
a separate worker_pool. NR_WORKER_POOLS is bumped to two and
gcwq->pools[0] is used for normal pri work items and ->pools[1] for
highpri. Highpri workers get -20 nice level and has 'H' suffix in
their names. Note that this change increases the number of kworkers
per cpu.
POOL_HIGHPRI_PENDING, pool_determine_ins_pos() and highpri chain
wakeup code in process_one_work() are no longer used and removed.
This allows proper prioritization of highpri work items and removes
high execution latency of highpri work items.

Minimum and maximum alerts on power supply properties will help or allow
the user space to "proactively" create policies like connect/disconnect
charger or stop/start the user apps based on capacity or temperature
parameters.
These parameters can be used to avoid unnecessary polling from user space
and even from kernel space if the underlying HW can support INT triggers
(ex: max17042/47).
This patch adds the following power supply alert type properties:
CAPACITY_ALERT_MIN
CAPACITY_ALERT_MAX
TEMP_ALERT_MIN

This introduce TSQ (TCP Small Queues)
TSQ goal is to reduce number of TCP packets in xmit queues (qdisc &
device queues), to reduce RTT and cwnd bias, part of the bufferbloat
problem.
sk->sk_wmem_alloc not allowed to grow above a given limit,
allowing no more than ~128KB [1] per tcp socket in qdisc/dev layers at a
given time.
TSO packets are sized/capped to half the limit, so that we have two
TSO packets in flight, allowing better bandwidth use.
As a side effect, setting the limit to 40000 automatically reduces the
standard gso max limit (65536) to 40000/2 : It can help to reduce
latencies of high prio packets, having smaller TSO packets.
This means we divert sock_wfree() to a tcp_wfree() handler, to
queue/send following frames when skb_orphan() [2] is called for the
already queued skbs.
Results on my dev machines (tg3/ixgbe nics) are really impressive,
using standard pfifo_fast, and with or without TSO/GSO.
Without reduction of nominal bandwidth, we have reduction of buffering
per bulk sender :
< 1ms on Gbit (instead of 50ms with TSO)
< 8ms on 100Mbit (instead of 132 ms)
I no longer have 4 MBytes backlogged in qdisc by a single netperf
session, and both side socket autotuning no longer use 4 Mbytes.
As skb destructor cannot restart xmit itself ( as qdisc lock might be
taken at this point ), we delegate the work to a tasklet. We use one
tasklest per cpu for performance reasons.
If tasklet finds a socket owned by the user, it sets TSQ_OWNED flag.
This flag is tested in a new protocol method called from release_sock(),
to eventually send new segments.
[1] New /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_limit_output_bytes tunable
[2] skb_orphan() is usually called at TX completion time,
but some drivers call it in their start_xmit() handler.
These drivers should at least use BQL, or else a single TCP
session can still fill the whole NIC TX ring, since TSQ will
have no effect.

Based on work 1st by Ben Herrenschmidt and Jeremy Kerr, then by Grant
Likely, this patch adds support to clk_get to allow drivers to retrieve
clock data from the device tree.
Platforms scan for clocks in DT with of_clk_init and a match table, and
the register a provider through of_clk_add_provider. The provider's
clk_src_get function will be called when a device references the
provider's OF node for a clock reference.
v6 (Rob Herring):
- Return error values instead of NULL to match clock framework
expectations
v5 (Rob Herring):
- Move from drivers/of into common clock subsystem
- Squashed "dt/clock: add a simple provider get function" and
"dt/clock: add function to get parent clock name"
- Rebase to 3.4-rc1
- Drop CONFIG_OF_CLOCK and just use CONFIG_OF
- Add missing EXPORT_SYMBOL to various functions
- s/clock-output-name/clock-output-names/
- Define that fixed-clock binding is a single output
v4 (Rob Herring):
- Rework for common clk subsystem
- Add of_clk_get_parent_name function
v3: - Clarified documentation
v2: - fixed errant ';' causing compile error
- Editorial fixes from Shawn Guo
- merged in adding lookup to clkdev
- changed property names to match established convention. After
working with the binding a bit it really made more sense to follow the
lead of 'reg', 'gpios' and 'interrupts' by making the input simply
'clocks' & 'clock-names' instead of 'clock-input-*', and to only use
clock-output* for the producer nodes. (Sorry Shawn, this will mean
you need to change some code, but it should be trivial)
- Add ability to inherit clocks from parent nodes by using an empty
'clock-ranges' property. Useful for busses. I could use some feedback
on the new property name, 'clock-ranges' doesn't feel right to me.

A large proportion of interrupt controllers that support legacy mappings
do so because non-DT systems need to use fixed IRQ numbers when registering
devices via buses but can otherwise use a linear mapping. The interrupt
controller itself typically is not affected by the mapping used and best
practice is to use a linear mapping where possible so drivers frequently
select at runtime depending on if a legacy range has been allocated to
them.
Standardise this behaviour by providing irq_domain_register_simple() which
will allocate a linear mapping unless a positive first_irq is provided in
which case it will fall back to a legacy mapping. This helps make best
practice for irq_domain adoption clearer.

as a prerequisite to unify the selection target names across the subdev

The meaning of V4L2_SEL_TGT_*_ACTIVE and V4L2_SUBDEV_SEL_TGT_*_ACTUAL

usb: gadget: patches for v3.6 merge window
This is quite a big pull request and contains patches
all over the place.
omap_udc is now a bit cleaner after removing omap2 support,
fixing some checkpatch.pl warnings and errors, switching over
to generic map/unmap routines and preventing a NULL pointer
de-reference.
s3c-hsotg has been switched over to devm_* API, got some
locking fixes and improvements and it also got an implementation
for the pullup() method.
the mass storage gadgets changed default value of the removable
parameter, dropped some unused options and made "file" and "ro"
module_parameters read-only in some cases.
ffs function got support for HID descriptor.
Some UDCs have been converted to clk_prepare_enable() and
clk_disable_unprepare().
Marvell now got support for its USB3 controller in mainline
after introducing its mv_u3d_core.c driver.
To make remoteproc's API more intuitive for developers, we adopt
the driver core's naming, i.e. alloc -> add -> del -> put. We'll also
add register/unregister when their first user shows up.
Otherwise - there's no functional change here.

Remove rproc_get_by_name() and rproc_put(), and the associated
remoteproc infrastructure that supports it (i.e. klist and friends),
because:
1. No one uses them
2. Using them is highly discouraged, and any potential user
will be deeply scrutinized and encouraged to move.
If a user, that absolutely can't live with the direct boot/shutdown
model, does show up one day, then bringing this functionality back
is going to be trivial.
At this point though, keeping this functionality around is way too
much of a maintenance burden.

Simplify the unregister/free interfaces, and make them easier
to understand and use, by moving to a symmetric and consistent
alloc() -> register() -> unregister() -> free() flow.
To create and register an rproc instance, one needed to invoke
rproc_alloc() followed by rproc_register().
To unregister and free an rproc instance, one now needs to invoke
rproc_unregister() followed by rproc_free().

The beep_mode=2 option was introduced to make the beep mixer
controlling the beep input allocation/deallocation dynamically, so
that a user can switch between HD-audio codec digital beep and the
system beep only via mixer API. This was necessary because the
keyboard driver took only the first input beep instance at that time.
However, the recent keyboard driver already processes the multiple
input instances, thus there is no point to keep this mode.

Add a driver for BCM8706 and BCM8727 devices. These are a 10Gig PHYs

interrupts when it changes.

Define two new "compatible" values for Ethernet
PHYs. "ethernet-phy-ieee802.3-c22" and "ethernet-phy-ieee802.3-c45"
are used to indicate a PHY uses the corresponding protocol.
If a PHY is "compatible" with "ethernet-phy-ieee802.3-c45", we
indicate this so that get_phy_device() can properly probe the device.
If get_phy_device() fails, it was probably due to failing the probe of
the PHY identifier registers. Since we have the device tree telling
us the PHY exists, go ahead and add it anyhow with a phy_id of zero.

Currently, request_queue has one request_list to allocate requests
from regardless of blkcg of the IO being issued. When the unified
request pool is used up, cfq proportional IO limits become meaningless
- whoever grabs the next request being freed wins the race regardless
of the configured weights.
This can be easily demonstrated by creating a blkio cgroup w/ very low
weight, put a program which can issue a lot of random direct IOs there
and running a sequential IO from a different cgroup. As soon as the
request pool is used up, the sequential IO bandwidth crashes.
This patch implements per-blkg request_list. Each blkg has its own
request_list and any IO allocates its request from the matching blkg
making blkcgs completely isolated in terms of request allocation.
* Root blkcg uses the request_list embedded in each request_queue,
which was renamed to @q->root_rl from @q->rq. While making blkcg rl
handling a bit harier, this enables avoiding most overhead for root
blkcg.
* Queue fullness is properly per request_list but bdi isn't blkcg
aware yet, so congestion state currently just follows the root
blkcg. As writeback isn't aware of blkcg yet, this works okay for
async congestion but readahead may get the wrong signals. It's
better than blkcg completely collapsing with shared request_list but
needs to be improved with future changes.
* After this change, each block cgroup gets a full request pool making
resource consumption of each cgroup higher. This makes allowing
non-root users to create cgroups less desirable; however, note that
allowing non-root users to directly manage cgroups is already
severely broken regardless of this patch - each block cgroup
consumes kernel memory and skews IO weight (IO weights are not
hierarchical).
v2: queue-sysfs.txt updated and patch description udpated as suggested
by Vivek.
v3: blk_get_rl() wasn't checking error return from
blkg_lookup_create() and may cause oops on lookup failure. Fix it
by falling back to root_rl on blkg lookup failures. This problem
was spotted by Rakesh Iyer <rni@google.com>.
v4: Updated to accomodate 458f27a982 "block: Avoid missed wakeup in
request waitqueue". blk_drain_queue() now wakes up waiters on all
blkg->rl on the target queue.

Distribution kernel maintainers routinely backport fixes for users that
were deemed important but not "something critical" as defined by the
rules. To users of these kernels they are very serious and failing to fix
them reduces the value of -stable.
The problem is that the patches fixing these issues are often subtle and
prone to regressions in other ways and need greater care and attention.
To combat this, these "serious" backports should have a higher barrier
to entry.
This patch relaxes the rules to allow a distribution maintainer to merge
to -stable a backported patch or small series that fixes a "serious"
user-visible performance issue. They should include additional information on
the user-visible bug affected and a link to the bugzilla entry if available.
The same rules about the patch being already in mainline still apply.

The iommu=group_mf is really no longer needed with the addition of ACS
support in IOMMU drivers creating groups. Most multifunction devices
will now be grouped already. If a device has gone to the trouble of
exposing ACS, trust that it works. We can use the device specific ACS
function for fixing devices we trust individually. This largely
reverts bcb71abe.

IOMMU device groups are currently a rather vague associative notion
with assembly required by the user or user level driver provider to
do anything useful. This patch intends to grow the IOMMU group concept
into something a bit more consumable.
To do this, we first create an object representing the group, struct
iommu_group. This structure is allocated (iommu_group_alloc) and
filled (iommu_group_add_device) by the iommu driver. The iommu driver
is free to add devices to the group using it's own set of policies.
This allows inclusion of devices based on physical hardware or topology
limitations of the platform, as well as soft requirements, such as
multi-function trust levels or peer-to-peer protection of the
interconnects. Each device may only belong to a single iommu group,
which is linked from struct device.iommu_group. IOMMU groups are
maintained using kobject reference counting, allowing for automatic
removal of empty, unreferenced groups. It is the responsibility of
the iommu driver to remove devices from the group
(iommu_group_remove_device).
IOMMU groups also include a userspace representation in sysfs under
/sys/kernel/iommu_groups. When allocated, each group is given a
dynamically assign ID (int). The ID is managed by the core IOMMU group
code to support multiple heterogeneous iommu drivers, which could
potentially collide in group naming/numbering. This also keeps group
IDs to small, easily managed values. A directory is created under
/sys/kernel/iommu_groups for each group. A further subdirectory named
"devices" contains links to each device within the group. The iommu_group
file in the device's sysfs directory, which formerly contained a group
number when read, is now a link to the iommu group. Example:
$ ls -l /sys/kernel/iommu_groups/26/devices/
total 0
lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 0 Apr 17 12:57 0000:00:1e.0 ->

../../../../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1e.0/0000:06:0d.0
lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 0 Apr 17 12:57 0000:06:0d.1 ->
../../../../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1e.0/0000:06:0d.1
$ ls -l /sys/kernel/iommu_groups/26/devices/*/iommu_group

/sys/kernel/iommu_groups/26/devices/0000:00:1e.0/iommu_group ->
../../../kernel/iommu_groups/26
/sys/kernel/iommu_groups/26/devices/0000:06:0d.0/iommu_group ->
../../../../kernel/iommu_groups/26
/sys/kernel/iommu_groups/26/devices/0000:06:0d.1/iommu_group ->
../../../../kernel/iommu_groups/26
Groups also include several exported functions for use by user level
driver providers, for example VFIO. These include:
iommu_group_get(): Acquires a reference to a group from a device
iommu_group_put(): Releases reference
iommu_group_for_each_dev(): Iterates over group devices using callback
iommu_group_[un]register_notifier(): Allows notification of device add
and remove operations relevant to the group
iommu_group_id(): Return the group number
This patch also extends the IOMMU API to allow attaching groups to
domains. This is currently a simple wrapper for iterating through
devices within a group, but it's expected that the IOMMU API may
eventually make groups a more integral part of domains.
Groups intentionally do not try to manage group ownership. A user
level driver provider must independently acquire ownership for each
device within a group before making use of the group as a whole.
This may change in the future if group usage becomes more pervasive
across both DMA and IOMMU ops.
Groups intentionally do not provide a mechanism for driver locking
or otherwise manipulating driver matching/probing of devices within
the group. Such interfaces are generic to devices and beyond the
scope of IOMMU groups. If implemented, user level providers have
ready access via iommu_group_for_each_dev and group notifiers.
iommu_device_group() is removed here as it has no users. The
replacement is:
group = iommu_group_get(dev);
id = iommu_group_id(group);
iommu_group_put(group);

It is very common practice that at low or high temperatures we

For some hardwares ramp_delay for BUCKs is a configurable parameter which can
be configured through DT or board file.This patch adds ramp_delay to regulator
constraints and allow user to configure it for regulators which supports this
feature, through DT or board file. It will provide two ways of setting the
ramp_delay for a regulator:
First, by setting it as constraints in board file(for configurable
regulators) and set_machine_constraints() will take care of setting it on
hardware by calling(the provided) .set_ramp_delay() operation(callback).
Second, by setting it as data in regulator_desc(as fixed/default
ramp_delay rate) for a regulator in driver.
regulator_set_voltage_time_sel() will give preference to
constraints->ramp_delay while reading ramp_delay rate for regulator. Similarly
users should also take care accordingly while refering ramp_delay rate(in case
of implementing their private .set_voltage_time_sel() callbacks for different
regulators).

In order to get rid of the global namespace for PWM devices, this commit

Many PWM controllers provide access to more than a single PWM output and
may even share some resource among them. Allowing a PWM chip to provide
multiple PWM devices enables better sharing of those resources. As a
side-effect this change allows easy integration with the device tree
where a given PWM can be looked up based on the PWM chip's phandle and a
corresponding index.
This commit modifies the PWM core to support multiple PWMs per struct
pwm_chip. It achieves this in a similar way to how gpiolib works, by
allowing PWM ranges to be requested dynamically (pwm_chip.base == -1) or
starting at a given offset (pwm_chip.base >= 0). A chip specifies how
many PWMs it controls using the npwm member. Each of the functions in
the pwm_ops structure gets an additional argument that specified the PWM
number (it can be converted to a per-chip index by subtracting the
chip's base).
The total maximum number of PWM devices is currently fixed to 1024 while
the data is actually stored in a radix tree, thus saving resources if
not all of them are used.

This patch adds framework support for PWM (pulse width modulation) devices.
The is a barebone PWM API already in the kernel under include/linux/pwm.h,
but it does not allow for multiple drivers as each of them implements the
pwm_*() functions.
There are other PWM framework patches around from Bill Gatliff. Unlike
his framework this one does not change the existing API for PWMs so that
this framework can act as a drop in replacement for the existing API.
Why another framework?
Several people argue that there should not be another framework for PWMs
but they should be integrated into one of the existing frameworks like led
or hwmon. Unlike these frameworks the PWM framework is agnostic to the
purpose of the PWM. In fact, a PWM can drive a LED, but this makes the
LED framework a user of a PWM, like already done in leds-pwm.c. The gpio
framework also is not suitable for PWMs. Every gpio could be turned into
a PWM using timer based toggling, but on the other hand not every PWM hardware
device can be turned into a gpio due to the lack of hardware capabilities.
This patch does not try to improve the PWM API yet, this could be done in
subsequent patches.

Routing of 127/8 is tradtionally forbidden, we consider
packets from that address block martian when routing and do
not process corresponding ARP requests.
This is a sane default but renders a huge address space
practically unuseable.
The RFC states that no address within the 127/8 block should
ever appear on any network anywhere but it does not forbid
the use of such addresses outside of the loopback device in
particular. For example to address a pool of virtual guests
behind a load balancer.
This patch adds a new interface option 'route_localnet'
enabling routing of the 127/8 address block and processing
of ARP requests on a specific interface.
Note that for the feature to work, the default local route
covering 127/8 dev lo needs to be removed.
Example:
$ sysctl -w net.ipv4.conf.eth0.route_localnet=1
$ ip route del 127.0.0.0/8 dev lo table local
$ ip addr add 127.1.0.1/16 dev eth0
$ ip route flush cache

The twl6040 DT support implementation has been changed from the
originally planned. None of the child devices going to have
compatible_of property which means that the child devices of twl6040
will be created as traditional MFD devices. The mfd core driver will
decide (based on the DT blob) to create a device for the twl6040-vibra
or not. If the DT blob has 'vibra' section the device will be created
without pdata. In this case the vibra driver will reach up to the
parent node to get the needed properties.
With DT booted kernel we no longer be able to link the regulators to
the vibra driver, they can be only linked to the MFD device (probed
via DT). From the vibra driver we ned to use pdev->dev.parent to get
the regulators.

for rc1. Plus, it had to wait a little for the ack of a devicetree

So, given that, I hope there is still something like the "new driver

Merge tag 'dm-3.5-changes-1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/agk/linux-dm
Pull device-mapper updates from Alasdair G Kergon:
"Improve multipath's retrying mechanism in some defined circumstances
and provide a simple reserve/release mechanism for userspace tools to

* tag 'dm-3.5-changes-1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/agk/linux-dm:
dm thin: provide userspace access to pool metadata
dm thin: use slab mempools
dm mpath: allow ioctls to trigger pg init
dm mpath: delay retry of bypassed pg
dm mpath: reduce size of struct multipath
This patch implements two new messages that can be sent to the thin
pool target allowing it to take a snapshot of the _metadata_. This,
read-only snapshot can be accessed by userland, concurrently with the
live target.
Only one metadata snapshot can be held at a time. The pool's status
line will give the block location for the current msnap.
Since version 0.1.5 of the userland thin provisioning tools, the
thin_dump program displays the msnap as follows:
thin_dump -m <msnap root> <metadata dev>
Available here: https://github.com/jthornber/thin-provisioning-tools
Now that userland can access the metadata we can do various things
that have traditionally been kernel side tasks:
i) Incremental backups.
By using metadata snapshots we can work out what blocks have
changed over time. Combined with data snapshots we can ensure
the data doesn't change while we back it up.
A short proof of concept script can be found here:
https://github.com/jthornber/thinp-test-suite/blob/master/incremental_backup_example.rb
ii) Migration of thin devices from one pool to another.
iii) Merging snapshots back into an external origin.
iv) Asyncronous replication.
