Jerome Anand eef57324d9 drm/i915: setup bridge for HDMI LPE audio driver
Enable support for HDMI LPE audio mode on Baytrail and
Cherrytrail when HDaudio controller is not detected

Setup minimum required resources during i915_driver_load:
1. Create a platform device to share MMIO/IRQ resources
2. Make the platform device child of i915 device for runtime PM.
3. Create IRQ chip to forward HDMI LPE audio irqs.

HDMI LPE audio driver (a standalone sound driver) probes the
LPE audio device and creates a new sound card.

Chris Wilson 241455172b drm/i915: Reset the gpu on takeover
The GPU may be in an unknown state following resume and module load. The
previous occupant may have left contexts loaded, or other dangerous
state, which can cause an immediate GPU hang for us. The only save
course of action is to reset the GPU prior to using it - similarly to
how we reset the GPU prior to unload (before a second user may be
affected by our leftover state).

We need to reset the GPU very early in our load/resume sequence so that
any stale HW pointers are revoked prior to any resource allocations we
make (that may conflict).

A reset should only be a couple of milliseconds on a slow device, a cost
we should easily be able to absorb into our initialisation times.

Chris Wilson bb8f0f5abd drm/i915: Split intel_engine allocation and initialisation
In order to reset the GPU early on in the module load sequence, we need
to allocate the basic engine structs (to populate the mmio offsets etc).
Currently, the engine initialisation allocates both the base struct and
also allocate auxiliary objects, which depend upon state setup quite
late in the load sequence. We split off the allocation callback for
later and allow ourselves to allocate the engine structs themselves
early.

Anusha Srivatsa 5464cd6576 drm/i915/get_params: Add HuC status to getparams
This patch will allow for getparams to return the status of the HuC.
As the HuC has to be validated by the GuC this patch uses the validated
status to show when the HuC is loaded and ready for use. You cannot use
the loaded status as with the GuC as the HuC is verified after it is
loaded and is not usable until it is verified.

Anusha Srivatsa bd132858e9 drm/i915/huc: Add HuC fw loading support
The HuC loading process is similar to GuC. The intel_uc_fw_fetch()
is used for both cases.

HuC loading needs to be before GuC loading. The WOPCM setting must
be done early before loading any of them.

v2: rebased on-top of drm-intel-nightly.

v4: moved function back to where it was.

the right year.Correct the comments,remove the unwanted WARN message,
replace drm_gem_object_unreference() with i915_gem_object_put().Make the
prototypes in intel_huc.h non-extern.
v6: rebased. Update the file construction done by HuC. It is similar to
GuC.Adopted the approach used in-

v7: Change dev to dev_priv in macro definition.

v8: rebased on top of drm-tip. Updated functions intel_huc_load(),
intel_huc_init() and intel_uc_fw_fetch() to accept dev_priv instead of
dev. Moved contents of intel_huc.h to intel_uc.h.
v9: change SKL_FW_ to SKL_HUC_FW_. Add intel_ prefix to guc_wopcm_size().
Remove unwanted checks in intel_uc.h. Rename huc_fw in struct intel_huc to
simply fw to avoid redundency.
v10: rebased. Correct comments. Make intel_huc_fini() accept dev_priv
instead of dev like intel_huc_init() and intel_huc_load().Move definition
to i915_guc_reg.h from intel_uc.h. Clean DMA_CTRL bits after HuC DMA
transfer in huc_ucode_xfer() instead of guc_ucode_xfer(). Add suitable
WARNs to give extra info.
v11: rebased. Add proper bias for HuC and make sure there are
asserts on failure by using guc_ggtt_offset_vma(). Introduce
intel_huc.c and remove intel_huc_loader.c since it has functions that
do more than just loading.Correct year in copyright.

Chris Wilson b1ed35d917 drm/i915: Revoke fenced GTT mmapings across GPU reset
The fence registers are clobbered by a GPU reset. If there is concurrent
user access to a fenced region via a GTT mmaping, the access will not be
fenced during the reset (until we restore the fences afterwards). In order
to prevent invalid access during the reset, before we clobber the fences
first we must invalidate the GTT mmapings. Access to the mmap will then
be forced to fault in the page, and in handling the fault, i915_gem_fault()
will take the struct_mutex and wait upon the reset to complete.

Imre Deak 908764f6d0 drm/i915/lspcon: Enable AUX interrupts for resume time initialization
For LSPCON initialization during system resume we need AUX
functionality, but we call the corresponding encoder reset hook with all
interrupts disabled. Without interrupts we'll do a poll-wait for AUX
transfer completions, which adds a significant delay if the transfers
timeout/need to be retried for some reason.

Fix this by enabling interrupts before calling the reset hooks. Note
that while this will enable AUX interrupts it will keep HPD interrupts
disabled, in a similar way to the init time output setup code.

This issue existed since LSPCON support was added.

Robert Bragg 442b8c06fc drm/i915: advertise available metrics via sysfs
Each metric set is given a sysfs entry like:

/sys/class/drm/card0/metrics/<guid>/id

This allows userspace to enumerate the specific sets that are available
for the current system. The 'id' file contains an unsigned integer that
can be used to open the associated metric set via
DRM_IOCTL_I915_PERF_OPEN. The <guid> is a globally unique ID for a
specific OA unit register configuration that can be reliably used by
userspace as a key to lookup corresponding counter meta data and
normalization equations.

The guid registry is currently maintained as part of gputop along with
the XML metric set descriptions and code generation scripts, ref:

Robert Bragg eec688e142 drm/i915: Add i915 perf infrastructure
Adds base i915 perf infrastructure for Gen performance metrics.

This adds a DRM_IOCTL_I915_PERF_OPEN ioctl that takes an array of uint64
properties to configure a stream of metrics and returns a new fd usable
with standard VFS system calls including read() to read typed and sized
records; ioctl() to enable or disable capture and poll() to wait for
data.

A stream is opened something like:

  uint64_t properties[] = {
      /* Single context sampling */
      DRM_I915_PERF_PROP_CTX_HANDLE,        ctx_handle,

      /* Include OA reports in samples */
      DRM_I915_PERF_PROP_SAMPLE_OA,         true,

      /* OA unit configuration */
      DRM_I915_PERF_PROP_OA_METRICS_SET,    metrics_set_id,
      DRM_I915_PERF_PROP_OA_FORMAT,         report_format,
      DRM_I915_PERF_PROP_OA_EXPONENT,       period_exponent,
   };
   struct drm_i915_perf_open_param parm = {
      .flags = I915_PERF_FLAG_FD_CLOEXEC |
               I915_PERF_FLAG_FD_NONBLOCK |
               I915_PERF_FLAG_DISABLED,
      .properties_ptr = (uint64_t)properties,
      .num_properties = sizeof(properties) / 16,
   };
   int fd = drmIoctl(drm_fd, DRM_IOCTL_I915_PERF_OPEN, &param);

Records read all start with a common { type, size } header with
DRM_I915_PERF_RECORD_SAMPLE being of most interest. Sample records
contain an extensible number of fields and it's the
DRM_I915_PERF_PROP_SAMPLE_xyz properties given when opening that
determine what's included in every sample.

No specific streams are supported yet so any attempt to open a stream
will return an error.

Lyude e0b7006140 drm/i915: Reinit polling before hpd when resuming
Now that we don't run the connector reprobing from i915_drm_resume(), we
need to make it so we don't have to wait for reprobing to finish so that
we actually speed things up. In order to do this, we need to make sure
that i915_drm_resume() doesn't get blocked by i915_hpd_poll_init_work()
while trying to acquire the mode_config lock that
drm_kms_helper_poll_enable() needs to acquire.

The easiest way to do this is to just enable polling before hpd. This
shouldn't break anything since at that point we have everything else we
need for polling enabled.

As well, this should result in a rather significant improvement in how
quickly we can resume the system.

Lyude f97f193613 drm/i915: Remove redundant reprobe in i915_drm_resume
Weine's investigation on benchmarking the suspend/resume process pointed
out a lot of the time in suspend/resume is being spent reprobing. While
the reprobing process is a lengthy one for good reason, we don't need to
hold up the entire suspend/resume process while we wait for it to
finish. Luckily as it turns out, we already trigger a full connector
reprobe in i915_hpd_poll_init_work(), so we can just ditch reprobing in
i915_drm_resume() entirely.

This won't lead to less time spent resuming just yet since now the
bottleneck will be waiting for the mode_config lock in
drm_kms_helper_poll_enable(), since that will be held as long as
i915_hpd_poll_init_work() is reprobing all of the connectors. But we'll
address that in the next patch.

Ville Syrjälä b079bd17e3 drm/i915: Bail if plane/crtc init fails
Due to the plane->index not getting readjusted in drm_plane_cleanup(),
we can't continue initialization of some plane/crtc init fails.
Well, we sort of could I suppose if we left all initialized planes on
the list, but that would expose those planes to userspace as well.

But for crtcs the situation is even worse since we assume that
pipe==crtc index occasionally, so we can't really deal with a partially
initialize set of crtcs.

So seems safest to just abort the entire thing if anything goes wrong.
All the failure paths here are kmalloc()s anyway, so it seems unlikely
we'd get very far if these start failing.

We want to hide the latency of releasing objects and their backing
storage from the submission, so we move the actual free to a worker.
This allows us to switch to struct_mutex freeing of the object in the
next patch.

Furthermore, if we know that the object we are dereferencing remains valid
for the duration of our access, we can forgo the usual synchronisation
barriers and atomic reference counting. To ensure this we defer freeing
an object til after an RCU grace period, such that any lookup of the
object within an RCU read critical section will remain valid until
after we exit that critical section. We also employ this delay for
rate-limiting the serialisation on reallocation - we have to slow down
object creation in order to prevent resource starvation (in particular,
files).

Akash Goel f824083559 drm/i915: Add a relay backed debugfs interface for capturing GuC logs
Added a new debugfs interface '/sys/kernel/debug/dri/guc_log' for the
User to capture GuC firmware logs. Availed relay framework to implement
the interface, where Driver will have to just use a relay API to store
snapshots of the GuC log buffer in the buffer managed by relay.
The snapshot will be taken when GuC firmware sends a log buffer flush
interrupt and up to four snapshots could be stored in the relay buffer.
The relay buffer will be operated in a mode where it will overwrite the
data not yet collected by User.
Besides mmap method, through which User can directly access the relay
buffer contents, relay also supports the 'poll' method. Through the 'poll'
call on log file, User can come to know whenever a new snapshot of the
log buffer is taken by Driver, so can run in tandem with the Driver and
capture the logs in a sustained/streaming manner, without any loss of data.

With the possibility of addition of many more number of rings in future,
the drm_i915_private structure could bloat as an array, of type
intel_engine_cs, is embedded inside it.
	struct intel_engine_cs engine[I915_NUM_ENGINES];
Though this is still fine as generally there is only a single instance of
drm_i915_private structure used, but not all of the possible rings would be
enabled or active on most of the platforms. Some memory can be saved by
allocating intel_engine_cs structure only for the enabled/active engines.
Currently the engine/ring ID is kept static and dev_priv->engine[] is simply
indexed using the enums defined in intel_engine_id.
To save memory and continue using the static engine/ring IDs, 'engine' is
defined as an array of pointers.
	struct intel_engine_cs *engine[I915_NUM_ENGINES];
dev_priv->engine[engine_ID] will be NULL for disabled engine instances.

There is a text size reduction of 928 bytes, from 1028200 to 1027272, for

earlier in the hibernation process.

To keep lockdep silent, we need to take struct_mutex for the shrinker

Chris Wilson 821ed7df6e drm/i915: Update reset path to fix incomplete requests
Update reset path in preparation for engine reset which requires
identification of incomplete requests and associated context and fixing
their state so that engine can resume correctly after reset.

The request that caused the hang will be skipped and head is reset to the
start of breadcrumb. This allows us to resume from where we left-off.
Since this request didn't complete normally we also need to cleanup elsp
queue manually. This is vital if we employ nonblocking request
submission where we may have a web of dependencies upon the hung request
and so advancing the seqno manually is no longer trivial.

ABI: gem_reset_stats / DRM_IOCTL_I915_GET_RESET_STATS

We change the way we count pending batches. Only the active context
involved in the reset is marked as either innocent or guilty, and not
mark the entire world as pending. By inspection this only affects
igt/gem_reset_stats (which assumes implementation details) and not
piglit.

ARB_robustness gives this guide on how we expect the user of this
interface to behave:

 * Provide a mechanism for an OpenGL application to learn about
   graphics resets that affect the context. When a graphics reset
   occurs, the OpenGL context becomes unusable and the application
   must create a new context to continue operation. Detecting a
   graphics reset happens through an inexpensive query.

And with regards to the actual meaning of the reset values:

   Certain events can result in a reset of the GL context. Such a reset
   causes all context state to be lost. Recovery from such events
   requires recreation of all objects in the affected context. The
   current status of the graphics reset state is returned by

	enum GetGraphicsResetStatusARB();

   The symbolic constant returned indicates if the GL context has been
   in a reset state at any point since the last call to
   GetGraphicsResetStatusARB. NO_ERROR indicates that the GL context
   has not been in a reset state since the last call.
   GUILTY_CONTEXT_RESET_ARB indicates that a reset has been detected
   that is attributable to the current GL context.
   INNOCENT_CONTEXT_RESET_ARB indicates a reset has been detected that
   is not attributable to the current GL context.
   UNKNOWN_CONTEXT_RESET_ARB indicates a detected graphics reset whose
   cause is unknown.

The language here is explicit in that we must mark up the guilty batch,
but is loose enough for us to relax the innocent (i.e. pending)
accounting as only the active batches are involved with the reset.

In the future, we are looking towards single engine resetting (with
minimal locking), where it seems inappropriate to mark the entire world
as innocent since the reset occurred on a different engine. Reducing the
information available means we only have to encounter the pain once, and
also reduces the information leaking from one context to another.

v2: Legacy ringbuffer submission required a reset following hibernation,
or else we restore stale values to the RING_HEAD and walked over
stolen garbage.

v3: GuC requires replaying the requests after a reset.

v4: Restore engine IRQ after reset (so waiters will be woken!)
    Rearm hangcheck if resetting with a waiter.

Chris Wilson 780f262a70 drm/i915: Replace wait-on-mutex with wait-on-bit in reset worker
Since we have a cooperative mode now with a direct reset, we can avoid
the contention on struct_mutex and instead try then sleep on the
I915_RESET_IN_PROGRESS bit. If the mutex is held and that bit is
cleared, all is fine. Otherwise, we sleep for a bit and try again. In
the worst case we sleep for an extra second waiting for the mutex to be
released (no one touching the GPU is allowed the struct_mutex whilst the
I915_RESET_IN_PROGRESS bit is set). But when we have a direct reset,
this allows us to clean up the reset worker faster.

Chris Wilson 221fe79945 drm/i915: Perform a direct reset of the GPU from the waiter
If a waiter is holding the struct_mutex, then the reset worker cannot
reset the GPU until the waiter returns. We do not want to return -EAGAIN
form i915_wait_request as that breaks delicate operations like
i915_vma_unbind() which often cannot be restarted easily, and returning
-EIO is just as useless (and has in the past proven dangerous). The
remaining WARN_ON(i915_wait_request) serve as a valuable reminder that
handling errors from an indefinite wait are tricky.

We can keep the current semantic that knowing after a reset is complete,
so is the request, by performing the reset ourselves if we hold the
mutex.

uevent emission is still handled by the reset worker, so it may appear
slightly out of order with respect to the actual reset (and concurrent
use of the device).

Chris Wilson 8af29b0c78 drm/i915: Separate out reset flags from the reset counter
In preparation for introducing a per-engine reset, we can first separate
the mixing of the reset state from the global reset counter.

The loss of atomicity in updating the reset state poses a small problem
for handling the waiters. For requests, this is solved by advancing the
seqno so that a waiter waking up after the reset knows the request is
complete. For pending flips, we still rely on the increment of the
global reset epoch (as well as the reset-in-progress flag) to signify
when the hardware was reset.

The advantage, now that we do not inspect the reset state during reset
itself i.e. we no longer emit requests during reset, is that we can use
the atomic updates of the state flags to ensure that only one reset
worker is active.

Just like with sysfs, we do some major overhaul.

Pass dev_priv instead of dev to all feature macros (IS_, HAS_,
INTEL_, etc.). This has the side effect that a bunch of functions
now get dev_priv passed instead of dev.

All calls to INTEL_INFO()->gen have been replaced with
INTEL_GEN().

We want access to to_i915(node->minor->dev) in a lot of places,
so add the node_to_i915() helper to accommodate for this.

Finally, we have quite a few cases where we get a void * pointer,
and need to cast it to drm_device *, only to run to_i915() on it.
Add cast_to_i915() to do this.

v3: Make pipe_crc_info have a pointer to drm_i915_private instead of

    drm_device anywhere in these functions.

    Also some minor fixup that I missed in the previous version.

    to various functions, thus removing the need for the

Chris Wilson 0b1de5d58e drm/i915: Use SSE4.1 movntdqa to accelerate reads from WC memory
This patch provides the infrastructure for performing a 16-byte aligned
read from WC memory using non-temporal instructions introduced with sse4.1.
Using movntdqa we can bypass the CPU caches and read directly from memory
and ignoring the page attributes set on the CPU PTE i.e. negating the
impact of an otherwise UC access. Copying using movntdqa from WC is almost
as fast as reading from WB memory, modulo the possibility of both hitting
the CPU cache or leaving the data in the CPU cache for the next consumer.
(The CPU cache itself my be flushed for the region of the movntdqa and on
later access the movntdqa reads from a separate internal buffer for the
cacheline.) The write back to the memory is however cached.

This will be used in later patches to accelerate accessing WC memory.

Daniel Vetter 44adece57e drm/fb-helper: Add a dummy remove_conflicting_framebuffers
Lots of drivers don't properly compile without this when CONFIG_FB=n.
It's kinda a hack, but since CONFIG_FB doesn't stub any fucntions when
it's disabled I think it makes sense to add it to drm_fb_helper.h.

Long term we probably need to rethink all the logic to unload firmware
framebuffer drivers, at least if we want to be able to move away from
CONFIG_FB and fbcon.

v2: Unfortunately just stubbing out remove_conflicting_framebuffers in
drm_fb_helper.h upset gcc about static vs. non-static declarations, so
a new wrapper it needs to be. Means more churn :(

Imre Deak 8090ba8c21 drm/i915: Apply the PPS register unlock workaround more consistently
Atm, we apply this workaround somewhat inconsistently at the following
points: driver loading, LVDS init, eDP PPS init, system resume. As this
workaround also affects registers other than PPS (timing, PLL) a more
consistent way is to apply it early after the PPS HW context is known to
be lost: driver loading, system resume and on VLV/CHV/BXT when turning
on power domains.

This is needed by the next patch that removes saving/restoring of the
PP_CONTROL register.

This also removes the incorrect programming of the workaround on HSW+
PCH platforms which don't have the register locking mechanism.

v2: (Ville)
- Don't apply the workaround on BXT.
- Simplify platform checks using HAS_DDI().
v3:
- Move the call of intel_pps_unlock_regs_wa() to the more
  logical vlv_display_power_well_init() (also fixing CHV) (Ville).

Chris Wilson b1f788c6ac drm/i915: Release vma when the handle is closed
In order to prevent a leak of the vma on shared objects, we need to
hook into the object_close callback to destroy the vma on the object for
this file. However, if we destroyed that vma immediately we may cause
unexpected application stalls as we try to unbind a busy vma - hence we
defer the unbind to when we retire the vma.

v2: Keep vma allocated until closed. This is useful for a later
optimisation, but it is required now in order to handle potential
recursion of i915_vma_unbind() by retiring itself.
v3: Comments are important.

Chris Wilson f6b9d5cabd drm/i915: Split early global GTT initialisation
Initialising the global GTT is tricky as we wish to use the drm_mm range
manager during the modesetting initialisation (to capture stolen
allocations from the BIOS) before we actually enable GEM. To overcome
this, we currently setup the drm_mm first and then carefully rebind
them.

v2: Fixup after rebasing
v3: GGTT initialisation needs to be split around kicking out conflicts
v4: Restore an old UMS BUG_ON(mappable > total) as a DRM_ERROR plus
fixup of probe results.

Since these are internal functions they operate on drm_i915_private and
not the drm_device being passed in. So pass in the drm_i915_private

conforming to the norm in function parameters.

Chris Wilson 0088e522dd drm/i915: Split GGTT initialisation between probing and setup
In order to handle conflicting drivers (i.e. vgacon) having a different
setup of hardware, we have to remove those other drivers before we try
to setup our own mappings. This requires us to split GGTT initialisation
between probing for the hardware location (part of the PCI BAR) and
later establishing the kernel resources for it.
