Since the refactoring of HD-audio display power management, the
display power status is managed per domain. Meanwhile the ASoC
hdac_hdmi driver still keeps and relies (incorrectly) on the
refcounting together with ASoC skl driver, and this leads to the
display state always on.
This patch is an attempt to address the regression by simplifying the
PM code of ASoC skl and hdac_hdmi drivers. Basically, since the
refactoring, we don't have to manage the display power at HD-audio
controller suspend / resume but only at HD-audio HDMI codec suspend /
resume. So the patch drops the superfluous snd_hdac_display_power()
calls in skl driver.
Meanwhile, in hdac_hdmi side, we rewrite the PM call just to re-use
the runtime PM callbacks like other drivers do. Now the logic is
simple: turn off at suspend and turn on at resume.
The patch also fixes the possibly missing display-power off at skl
driver removal as well as some error paths at probe.

Commit 37c7401e8c ("ASoC: Intel: bytcr_rt5651: Fix DMIC map

this was based on the observation that all bytcr_rt5651 devices I have
access to (7 devices) where all using IN3P for the headsetmic. This was
an attempt to unifify / simplify the mapping, but it was wrong.
None of those devices was actually using a digital internal mic. Now I've
access to a Point of View TAB-P1006W-232 (v1.0) tabler, which does use a

original mapping was correct, so this commit reverts the change changing

Some devices detected as BYT-T by the PMIC-type based detection
have only a single IRQ listed in the 80860F28 ACPI device. This
causes -ENXIO later when attempting to get the IRQ at index 5.
It turns out these devices behave more like BYT-CR devices,
and using the IRQ at index 0 makes sound work correctly.
This patch adds a fallback for these devices to is_byt_cr():
If there is no IRQ resource at index 5, treating the device
as BYT-T is guaranteed to fail later, so we can safely treat
these devices as BYT-CR without breaking any working device.

After adding jack-detect support we have 3 microphone input switches:

In the app-note explaining how to use the codec and on the 3 boards I

The ES8316 only has a single (amplified) output. The ES8316 appnote showing
the intended usage uses a jack-receptacle which physically disconnects the
speakers from the output when a jack is plugged in.
But all 3 devices using the es8316 which I have (2 Cherry Trail devices and
one Bay Trail CR device), use an analog mux to disconnect the speakers,
driven by a GPIO.
This commit adds support for this, modelling this as a separate speaker
widget / dapm pin-switch which sets the mux to drive the speakers when
selected.
The intend is for userspace to use the recently added jack-detect support
and then automatically select either the Headphone or Speaker output based
on that.

present on 2 of the 3 devices I have, see the added comment in the code.

and
d82b51c855 ("ALSA: HD-Audio: SKL+: force HDaudio legacy or SKL+

for the path of legacy HD-audio controller (snd-hda-intel).
The automatic DSP detection and skip of binding with the legacy driver
caused regressions on several machines like Dell XPS13. They give the
PCI class 0x40380 indicating the availability of DSP while they don't
work with ASoC SKL driver (yet).
As the support of ASoC driver for such devices isn't available, it's
better to revert the whole DSP-detection-and-skip behavior of the
legacy driver, so that we can get the old good driver working on such
devices.
The pci_binding option for ASoC SKL driver is still kept so that it
can work without blacklisting.

For HDaudio and Skylake drivers, add module parameter "pci_binding"
When pci_binding == 0 (AUTO), the PCI class/subclass info is used to
select drivers based on the presence of the DSP.
pci_binding == 1 (LEGACY) forces the use of the HDAudio legacy driver,
even if the DSP is present.
pci_binding == 2 (ASOC) forces the use of the ASOC driver. The
information on the DSP presence is bypassed.
The value for the module parameter needs to be identical for both
drivers. This parameter is intended as a back-up solution if the
automatic detection fails or when the DSP usage fails. Such cases
should be reported on the alsa-devel mailing list for analysis.

Now that the SST/Skylake driver supports per platform selectors, we
can add logic to automatically select the right driver.
If the Skylake driver is selected for a specific platform, and the DSP
is detected at run-time based on the PCI class/subclass/prog-if
information, the legacy HDaudio driver aborts the probe. This will
result in a single driver probing and remove the need for modprobe
blacklists.
Follow-up patches will add a module parameter to bypass the logic if
this automatic detection fails, or if the Skylake driver is unable to
actually support the platform (firmware authentication, missing
topology file, hardware issue, etc).
The same mechanism will be used to conflicts generated by the same PCI
ID being registered by both legacy HDAuudio and SOF drivers for Intel
platforms. In other words SOF will not require changes to the HDaudio
legacy.

part of the diff from a merge of the DaVinci and OMAP directories, along
with some active development there:
- Preparatory work from Morimoto-san for merging the audio-graph and
audio-graph-scu cards.
- A merge of the TI OMAP and DaVinci directories, the OMAP product line
has been merged into the DaVinci product line so there is now a lot
of IP sharing which meant that the split directories just got in the
way. This has pulled in a few architecture changes as well.
- A big cleanup of the Maxim MAX9867 driver from Ladislav Michl.
- Support for Asahi Kaesi AKM4118, AMD ACP3x, Intel platforms with
RT5660, Meson AXG S/PDIF inputs, several Qualcomm IPs and Xilinx I2S

The current SKYLAKE kconfig is a all-you-can-eat selection that will
support all known plaforms. This is however not necessarily a good
thing: most platforms for SKL and KBL don't support the DSP, but a
number of CNL/WHL ones do. Selecting this driver in all cases isn't
really smart and will require users to muck with blacklists.
Partition the configs to allow distributions to select on which
platform this driver is used. Keep the existing SND_SOC_INTEL_SKYLAKE
config to select everything for backwards compatibility. This patch does
not provide new functionality, only finer-grained choices in supported
platforms.

Check immediately if required HDaudio capabilities can't be found (no
PPCAP or no streams exposed in GCAP), and move all DMA inits after the
error tests.
PPCAP and GCAP are not reliable indicators of DSP presence, but if
they don't exist then the driver will not work.

The existing PPCAP and GCAP fields cannot be used reliably to
determine if the DSP is enabled by the BIOS. Instead rely on the
class/subclass information to find out if this driver can run or
not. The values in the code don't seem to be documented in publicly
available documents but are part of recommendations made to BIOS
writers and have been verified to be accurate on a number of
platforms.

The audio design on this IoT platform is as below:
- Intel kabylake platform

After the recent refactoring, snd_hdac_display_power() doesn't return

This makes many error checks redundant and allows us to reduce them

The current HD-audio code manages the DRM audio power via too complex
redirections, and this seems even still unbalanced in a corner case as
Intel DRM CI has been intermittently reporting. This patch is a big
surgery for addressing the complexity and the possible unbalance.
Basically the patch changes the display PM in the following ways:
- Both HD-audio controller and codec drivers call a single helper,
snd_hdac_display_power(). (Formerly, the display power control from
a codec was done indirectly via link_power bus ops.)
- snd_hdac_display_power() receives the codec address index. For
turning on/off from the controller, pass HDA_CODEC_IDX_CONTROLLER.
- snd_hdac_display_power() doesn't manage refcounts any longer, but
keeps the power status in bitmap. If any of controller or codecs is
turned on, the function updates the DRM power state via get_power()
or put_power().
Also this refactor allows us more cleanup:
- The link_power bus ops is dropped, so there is no longer indirect
management, as mentioned in the above.
- hdac_device link_power_control flag is moved to hda_codec
display_power_control flag, as it's only for HDA legacy.

Lots of fixes here, the majority of which are driver specific but
there's a couple of core things and one notable driver specific one:
- A core fix for a DAPM regression introduced during the component
refactoring, we'd lost the code that forced a reevaluation of the
DAPM graph after probe (which we suppress during init to save lots
of recalcuation) and have now restored it.
- A core fix for error handling using the newly added
for_each_rtd_codec_dai_rollback() macro.
- A fix for the names of widgets in the newly introduced pcm3060
driver, merged as a fix so we don't have a release with legacy names.

The Skylake driver currently has a set of problems supporting
load/unload modules. We need to make the HDaudio codec support
optional to help narrow down the issues.
Support for HDaudio codecs also leads to a Kconfig issue. We want the
hdac_hda codec to be compilable independently of Skylake (e.g. with
ALL_CODECS) but when Skylake is selected as built-in the hdac_hda
codec needs to use the same option due a a code dependency
Solve both problems by adding a user-selectable boolean Kconfig,
select HDAC_HDA as needed and make the HDaudio codec support in the
Skylake driver optional. Tests on a Chell Chromebook device without
HDaudio show no regression for speaker and HDMI playback.

On certain platforms, Display HDMI HDA codec was not going to sleep state
after the use when links are powered down after turning off the display
power. As per the HW recommendation, links are powered down before turning
off the display power to ensure that the codec goes to sleep state.
This patch was updated from an earlier version submitted upstream [1]
which conflicted with the changes merged for HDaudio codec support
with the Intel DSP.

give move support of existing HD-audio devices with DSP
- A few device-specific HD-audio quirks as usual
- New quirk for RME CC devices and correction for B&W PX for USB-audio
- FireWire: code refactoring including devres usages
ASoC Core:
- Continued componentization works; it's almost done!
- A bunch of new for_each_foo macros
- Cleanups and fixes in DAPM code
ASoC Drivers:

Internally, skl_init_chip() calls snd_hdac_bus_init_chip() which
1) sets bus->chip_init to prevent multiple entrances before device
is stopped; 2) enables interrupt.
We shouldn't use it for the purpose of resetting device only because
1) when we really want to initialize device, we won't be able to do
so; 2) we are ready to handle interrupt yet, and kernel crashes when
interrupt comes in.
Rename azx_reset() to snd_hdac_bus_reset_link(), and use it to reset
device properly.

This reverts commit 12eeeb4f47.
The patch doesn't fix accessing memory with null pointer in
skl_interrupt().
There are two problems: 1) skl_init_chip() is called twice, before
and after dma buffer is allocate. The first call sets bus->chip_init
which prevents the second from initializing bus->corb.buf and
rirb.buf from bus->rb.area. 2) snd_hdac_bus_init_chip() enables
interrupt before snd_hdac_bus_init_cmd_io() initializing dma buffers.
There is a small window which skl_interrupt() can be called if irq
has been acquired. If so, it crashes when using null dma buffer
pointers.
Will fix the problems in the following patches. Also attaching the
crash for future reference.

During my initial round of bytcr_rt5651 long-name patches I did not include
a difference for mono vs stereo speaker setups in the longname because it
seems that all 5651 devices with only a single speaker do some mixing of
left + right on the PCB.
However further testing has shown that while this works great when only
playing audio on the left or right channel, the output becomes garbled
when using both channels at once. Something which does not happen when
using the Stereo DAC MIXL / MIXR switches to mix the channels together
inside the codec and then only outputting on a single channel.
So we need to have separate UCM profiles and thus separate long-names
for devices with a mono speaker vs stereo speakers. Just as we already
have for the bytcr_rt5640 case.
This commit adds a new BYT_RT5651_MONO_SPEAKER quirk and adds "stereo-spk"
or "mono-spk" to the long-name based on this and enables this mapping on
devices with a mono speaker.
Changing the long-name like this is ok for now, since I'm still working
on the UCM profiles, so they are not in upstream alsa-lib yet.
This brings the long-name naming scheme fully in sync with the bytcr_rt5640
case, which is good from a consistency pov.

Introduce new custom IN2 map"), uses in commit 2fe30129b0 ("ASoC: intel:
byt: Enable IN2 map quirk for a KIANO laptop"), only to be replaced by a
new BYT_RT5651_IN1_IN2_MAP quirk in commit ea261bd02a ("ASoC: intel:
byt: Introduce new map for dual mics") quickly afterwards, because the
KIANO laptop has 2 internal mics on IN1 and IN2 and the headset mic is
not in IN1 where the BYT_RT5651_IN2_MAP maps it, but on IN3.
Now that the KIANO quirk entry uses BYT_RT5651_IN1_IN2_MAP, there are no
users of BYT_RT5651_IN2_MAP left. This makes sense since the headset mic
seems to always be connected to IN3, so BYT_RT5651_IN2_MAP is not useful.
To deal with BYT_RT5651_IN2_MAP wrongly mapping the headset mic to IN1,
BYT_RT5651_IN2_HS_IN3_MAP was added in commit f026e06317 ("ASoC: Intel:
bytcr_rt5651: Add new IN2_HS_IN3 input map and a quirk using it"). This
was based on the assumption then some devices have the internal mic
connected to IN2 only. Further testing has shown that this is wrong and the
internal mic is always connected to IN1 and sometimes to both IN1 and IN2.
TL;DR: Both BYT_RT5651_IN2_MAP and BYT_RT5651_IN2_HS_IN3_MAP are based on
on wrong assumptions from the past and are no longer useful now, so they
can both be removed.

Further testing on all 6 model x86 tablets with a rt5651 which I have
access to for testing has shown that their single (mono) microphone is
connected to both IN1 *and* IN2.
The previous default mapping of IN2 was based on testing on the same 6

works fine too with a mapping of IN1.
This commit changes the default input mapping to to use IN1 instead of
IN2, to match the mapping used for the other mono devices in the DMI quirk
table. So that we need less different mappings.
The same change is made to the Chuwi Vi8 Plus quirks, which is one of the

Commit dc31e741db ("ASoC: topology: ABI - Add the types for BE

change made the topology code incompatible with v4 topology files.
Backwards compatibility with v4 configuration files was
subsequently added with commit 288b8da7e9 ("ASoC: topology:
Support topology file of ABI v4").
Unfortunately, backwards compatibility was never fully implemented.
First, the manifest size in (Skylake) v4 configuration files is set
to 0, which causes manifest_new_ver() to bail out with error messages
similar to the following.
snd_soc_skl 0000:00:1f.3: ASoC: invalid manifest size
snd_soc_skl 0000:00:1f.3: tplg component load failed-22

skl_n88l25_m98357a: probe of skl_n88l25_m98357a failed with error -22
After this problem is fixed, the following error message is seen instead.
snd_soc_skl 0000:00:1f.3: ASoC: old version of manifest
snd_soc_skl 0000:00:1f.3: Invalid descriptor token 1093938482

snd_soc_skl 0000:00:1f.3: tPlg component load failed-22
This message is seen because backwards compatibility for loading widgets
was never implemented.
The lack of audio support when running the upstream kernel on recent
Chromebooks has been reported in various forums, and can be traced back
to this problem. Attempts to fix the problem, usually by providing v5
configuration files, were only partially successful.
Let's implement backward compatibility properly to solve the problem
for good.

On APL, commit fd0f237572
("ASoC: Intel: bxt: Move codec sysclk config to codec_init function")
fixed an issue related to jack detection.
The MCLK for DA7219 does not change in this platform, but is
currently being configured everytime as part of the platform_clock
event handler for DAPM. The upshot of this is that we have
unnecessary calls to this function, and it also means that if
a stream hasn't yet been started, DA7219 driver does not have the
correct MCLK rates programmed and so the HP detection feature does
not operate as expected.
The same fix is needed on KBL.
This patch rectifies this issue by moving the sysclk call to
codec_init function so it's only called once at initialisation.

Even with our recently tweaked defaults, quite a few bytcr_rt5640 devices
still need quirks to be fully functional. This commits adds quirks where
necessary for the 16 bytcr_rt5640 devices I have access to.
The quirks are added for the following reasons:
1) Devices with only one speaker need the mono quirk to avoid driving an
unused and potentially short-circuited output. 8 of my sample of 16 devs
are mono, 4 of these would work with the defaults if it were not for their
mono speaker.
2) Devices using a different input for the internal mic then the default,
this is the case for 6 of my sample of 16 devices.
3) BYTCR devices without an ACPI channel map, which do not work with the
default of SSP0-AIF2, this is the case for 2 of my sample of 16 devices.
4) Devices which need non-default jack-detect settings, this is the case
for 6 of my sample of 16 devices.

Chuwi Vi8
HP Pavilion X2 10-n000nd

Currently we've 2 places with BYTCR defaults: 1. The generic catch-all
DMI_SYS_VENDOR=="Insyde" DMI quirk which selects SSP0-AIF1 for generic
Insyde BYTCR tablets without the ACPI channel package; and 2. the
defaults in the if (is_bytcr) {} code block.
Currently these are not identical, both select IN3 as the internal mic
output, but the "Insyde" DMI quirk leaves out the DIFF_MIC quirk. The
DIFF_MIC quirk should be enabled by default, because enabling diff. input
helps a lot for devices with a differential mic, where as it is a nop on
devices with a normal mic.
This commit adds the DIFF_MIC quirk to the "Insyde" DMI quirk path, by
adding a new BYTCR_INPUT_DEFAULTS define and using that in both code paths
which set BYTCR defaults.

The split between ACPI and PCI platforms generated issues with randconfig:
with SND_SST_ATOM_HIFI2_PLATFORM_PCI=y and
SND_SST_ATOM_HIFI2_PLATFORM=m, we get this module link failure:
ERROR: "sst_context_init"

ERROR: "sst_context_cleanup"

ERROR: "sst_configure_runtime_pm"

To keep things simple, let's expose two configs for
SND_SST_ATOM_HIFI2_PLATFORM_PCI and SND_SST_ATOM_HIFI2_PLATFORM_ACPI,
which select a common SND_SST_ATOM_HIFI2_PLATFORM option. To avoid
breaking existing solutions with the semantics change,
SND_SST_ATOM_HIFI2_PLATFORM_ACPI uses "default ACPI" so that "make
oldnoconfig" and "make olddefconfig" still work as expected.
Also remove mentions of Medfield while we are at it since it was
removed recently.

In order to achieve better DMA performance and reduce download time for
firmware and library, it is recommended to disable dynamic clock and
power gating. In some scenarios, DMA may wait to accumulate more data and
last chunk of data never gets completed if dynamic clock and power
gating is kept enabled.
This patch adds support to disable/enable dynamic clock and power gating
and use it during firmware and library download.

Change the default quirk settings to enable jack-detect, analog mics.
The old default input mapping of DMIC for non Bay Trail CR devices seems
like a poor default as I'm not aware of any Intel SST + rt5651 using
devices with a DMIC.
All Cherry Trail devices using the bytcr_rt5651 machine driver seem to be
modelled after BYT-CR devices, And the only non CR Bay Trail devices with
a rt5651 codec I'm aware of are the Minnow boards for which we already have
board specific quirks. So it seems better to me to use the BYT-CR defaults
everywhere.
This e.g. makes the Chuwi Hi8 Pro (CWI513) work ootb without needing a
quirk.

Despite its name being prefixed with bytcr, before this commit the
bytcr_rt5651 machine driver could not work with Bay Trail CR boards,
as those only have SSP0 and it only supported SSP0-AIF1 setups.
This commit adds support for this, autodetecting AIF1 vs AIF2 based on
BIOS tables.
While at it also add support for SSP2-AIF2 setups, as that requires only
minimal extra code on top of the code adding SSP0-AIF1 / SSP0-AIF2 support.
Note this code is all copy-pasted from bytcr_rt5640.c. I've looked into
merging the 2 machine drivers into 1 to avoid copy-pasting, but there are
enough subtile differences to make this hard *and* with all the quirks the
machine driver already is full with if (variant-foo) then ... else ...
constructs adding more of these is going to make the code unreadable.

Before this commit it was possible to set the DMIC_EN quirk in the machine

This commit adds code to actually pass the quirk to the codec driver.

change. If we really want the DMIC_EN behavior anywhere it should be

The Bay Trail SST-DSP firmware version looses track of all streams over a

a SST_ERR_INVALID_STREAM_ID error.
This commit adds support for free-ing the streams on suspend and

This new behavior gets triggered by a new flag in sst_platform_info which
only gets set on Bay Trail platforms.
