Eric Dumazet a34a101e1e ipv6: disable GSO on sockets hitting dst_allfrag
If the allfrag feature has been set on a host route (due to an ICMPv6
Packet Too Big received indicating a MTU of less than 1280), we hit a
very slow behavior in TCP stack, because all big packets are dropped and
only a retransmit timer is able to push one MSS frame every 200 ms.

One way to handle this is to disable GSO on the socket the first time a
super packet is dropped. Adding a specific dst_allfrag() in the fast
path is probably overkill since the dst_allfrag() case almost never
happen.

Result on netperf TCP_STREAM, one flow :

Before : 60 kbit/sec
After : 1.6 Gbit/sec

Eric Dumazet 72e843bb09 ipv6: ip6_fragment() should check CHECKSUM_PARTIAL
Quoting Tore Anderson from :

If the allfrag feature has been set on a host route (due to an ICMPv6
Packet Too Big received indicating a MTU of less than 1280),
TCP SYN/ACK packets to that destination appears to get an incorrect
TCP checksum. This in turn means they are thrown away as invalid.

In the case of an IPv4 client behind a link with a MTU of less than
1260, accessing an IPv6 server through a stateless translator,
this means that the client can only download a single large file
from the server, because once it is in the server's routing cache
with the allfrag feature set, new TCP connections can no longer
be established.

</endquote>

It appears ip6_fragment() doesn't handle CHECKSUM_PARTIAL properly.

As network drivers are not prepared to fetch correct transport header, a
safe fix is to call skb_checksum_help() before fragmenting packet.

Gao feng 1f85851e17 ipv6: fix incorrent ipv6 ipsec packet fragment
Since commit 299b0767(ipv6: Fix IPsec slowpath fragmentation problem)
In func ip6_append_data,after call skb_put(skb, fraglen + dst_exthdrlen)
the skb->len contains dst_exthdrlen,and we don't reduce dst_exthdrlen at last
This will make fraggap>0 in next "while cycle",and cause the size of skb incorrent

Fix this by reserve headroom for dst_exthdrlen.

This is caused by bridge netfilter special dst_entry (fake_rtable), a
special shared entry, where attaching an inetpeer makes no sense.

Problem is present since commit 87c48fa3b4 (ipv6: make fragment
identifications less predictable)

Introduce DST_NOPEER dst flag and make sure ipv6_select_ident() and
__ip_select_ident() fallback to the 'no peer attached' handling.

Herbert Xu a7ae199224 ipv6: Remove all uses of LL_ALLOCATED_SPACE
ipv6: Remove all uses of LL_ALLOCATED_SPACE

The macro LL_ALLOCATED_SPACE was ill-conceived. It applies the
alignment to the sum of needed_headroom and needed_tailroom. As
the amount that is then reserved for head room is needed_headroom
with alignment, this means that the tail room left may be too small.

This patch replaces all uses of LL_ALLOCATED_SPACE in net/ipv6
with the macro LL_RESERVED_SPACE and direct reference to
needed_tailroom.

This also fixes the problem with needed_headroom changing between
allocating the skb and reserving the head room.

Steffen Klassert 299b076764 ipv6: Fix IPsec slowpath fragmentation problem
ip6_append_data() builds packets based on the mtu from dst_mtu(rt->dst.path).
On IPsec the effective mtu is lower because we need to add the protocol
headers and trailers later when we do the IPsec transformations. So after
the IPsec transformations the packet might be too big, which leads to a
slowpath fragmentation then. This patch fixes this by building the packets
based on the lower IPsec mtu from dst_mtu(&rt->dst) and adapts the exthdr
handling to this.

Eric Dumazet f2c31e32b3 net: fix NULL dereferences in check_peer_redir()
Gergely Kalman reported crashes in check_peer_redir().

It appears commit f39925dbde (ipv4: Cache learned redirect
information in inetpeer.) added a race, leading to possible NULL ptr
dereference.

Since we can now change dst neighbour, we should make sure a reader can
safely use a neighbour.

Add RCU protection to dst neighbour, and make sure check_peer_redir()
can be called safely by different cpus in parallel.

As neighbours are already freed after one RCU grace period, this patch
should not add typical RCU penalty (cache cold effects)

Many thanks to Gergely for providing a pretty report pointing to the
bug.

Eric Dumazet 87c48fa3b4 ipv6: make fragment identifications less predictable
IPv6 fragment identification generation is way beyond what we use for
IPv4 : It uses a single generator. Its not scalable and allows DOS
attacks.

Now inetpeer is IPv6 aware, we can use it to provide a more secure and
scalable frag ident generator (per destination, instead of system wide)

This patch :
1) defines a new secure_ipv6_id() helper
2) extends inet_getid() to provide 32bit results
3) extends ipv6_select_ident() with a new dest parameter

David S. Miller 68d0c6d34d ipv6: Consolidate route lookup sequences.
Route lookups follow a general pattern in the ipv6 code wherein
we first find the non-IPSEC route, potentially override the
flow destination address due to ipv6 options settings, and then
finally make an IPSEC search using either xfrm_lookup() or
__xfrm_lookup().

__xfrm_lookup() is used when we want to generate a blackhole route
if the key manager needs to resolve the IPSEC rules (in this case
-EREMOTE is returned and the original 'dst' is left unchanged).

Otherwise plain xfrm_lookup() is used and when asynchronous IPSEC
resolution is necessary, we simply fail the lookup completely.

All of these cases are encapsulated into two routines,
ip6_dst_lookup_flow and ip6_sk_dst_lookup_flow. The latter of which
handles unconnected UDP datagram sockets.

Eric Dumazet 3d13008e73 ip: fix truesize mismatch in ip fragmentation
Special care should be taken when slow path is hit in ip_fragment() :

When walking through frags, we transfert truesize ownership from skb to
frags. Then if we hit a slow_path condition, we must undo this or risk
uncharging frags->truesize twice, and in the end, having negative socket
sk_wmem_alloc counter, or even freeing socket sooner than expected.

Many thanks to Nick Bowler, who provided a very clean bug report and
test program.

Thanks to Jarek for reviewing my first patch and providing a V2

While Nick bisection pointed to commit 2b85a34e91 (net: No more
expensive sock_hold()/sock_put() on each tx), underlying bug is older
(2.6.12-rc5)

A side effect is to extend work done in commit b2722b1c3a
(ip_fragment: also adjust skb->truesize for packets not owned by a
socket) to ipv6 as well.

Note that I discovered that our existing GSO MTU checks (e.g.,

Patrick McHardy d1db275dd3 ipv6: ip6mr: support multiple tables
This patch adds support for multiple independant multicast routing instances,
named "tables".

Userspace multicast routing daemons can bind to a specific table instance by
issuing a setsockopt call using a new option MRT6_TABLE. The table number is
stored in the raw socket data and affects all following ip6mr setsockopt(),
getsockopt() and ioctl() calls. By default, a single table (RT6_TABLE_DFLT)
is created with a default routing rule pointing to it. Newly created pim6reg
devices have the table number appended ("pim6regX"), with the exception of
devices created in the default table, which are named just "pim6reg" for
compatibility reasons.

Packets are directed to a specific table instance using routing rules,
similar to how regular routing rules work. Currently iif, oif and mark
are supported as keys, source and destination addresses could be supported
additionally.

Example usage:

- bind pimd/xorp/... to a specific table:

uint32_t table = 123;
setsockopt(fd, SOL_IPV6, MRT6_TABLE, &table, sizeof(table));

- create routing rules directing packets to the new table:

# ip -6 mrule add iif eth0 lookup 123
# ip -6 mrule add oif eth0 lookup 123

Shan Wei f2228f785a ipv6: allow to send packet after receiving ICMPv6 Too Big message with MTU field less than IPV6_MIN_MTU
According to RFC2460, PMTU is set to the IPv6 Minimum Link
MTU (1280) and a fragment header should always be included
after a node receiving Too Big message reporting PMTU is
less than the IPv6 Minimum Link MTU.

After receiving a ICMPv6 Too Big message reporting PMTU is
less than the IPv6 Minimum Link MTU, sctp *can't* send any
data/control chunk that total length including IPv6 head
and IPv6 extend head is less than IPV6_MIN_MTU(1280 bytes).

The failure occured in p6_fragment(), about reason
see following(take SHUTDOWN chunk for example):
sctp_packet_transmit (SHUTDOWN chunk, len=16 byte)
|------sctp_v6_xmit (local_df=0)
   |------ip6_xmit
       |------ip6_output (dst_allfrag is ture)
           |------ip6_fragment

In ip6_fragment(), for local_df=0, drops the the packet
and returns EMSGSIZE.

The patch fixes it with adding check length of skb->len.
In this case, Ipv6 not to fragment upper protocol data,
just only add a fragment header before it.

Tejun Heo 5a0e3ad6af include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h
percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being
included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which
in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files
universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies.

percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for
this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those
headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion
needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is
used as the basis of conversion.

  http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py

The script does the followings.

* Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that
only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used,
gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h.

* When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include
blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms
to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains
core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered -
alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there
doesn't seem to be any matching order.

* If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly
because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out
an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the
  file.

The conversion was done in the following steps.

1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly
over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h
and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400
   files.

2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion,
some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or
embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added
   inclusions to around 150 files.

3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits
from #2 to make sure no file was left behind.

4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed.
   e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab
APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually.

5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically
editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h
files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h
inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually
wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each
slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as
   necessary.

6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h.

7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures
were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my
distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few
more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things
build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq).

   * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config.
   * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig
   * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig
   * ia64 SMP allmodconfig
   * s390 SMP allmodconfig
   * alpha SMP allmodconfig
   * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig

8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as
a separate patch and serve as bisection point.

Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step
6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch.
If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch
headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of
the specific arch.

Octavian Purdila 7ad6848c7e ip: fix mc_loop checks for tunnels with multicast outer addresses
When we have L3 tunnels with different inner/outer families
(i.e. IPV4/IPV6) which use a multicast address as the outer tunnel
destination address, multicast packets will be loopbacked back to the
sending socket even if IP*_MULTICAST_LOOP is set to disabled.

The mc_loop flag is present in the family specific part of the socket
(e.g. the IPv4 or IPv4 specific part). setsockopt sets the inner
family mc_loop flag. When the packet is pushed through the L3 tunnel
it will eventually be processed by the outer family which if different
will check the flag in a different part of the socket then it was set.

Eric Dumazet 6ce9e7b5fe ip: Report qdisc packet drops
Christoph Lameter pointed out that packet drops at qdisc level where not
accounted in SNMP counters. Only if application sets IP_RECVERR, drops
are reported to user (-ENOBUFS errors) and SNMP counters updated.

IP_RECVERR is used to enable extended reliable error message passing,
but these are not needed to update system wide SNMP stats.

This patch changes things a bit to allow SNMP counters to be updated,
regardless of IP_RECVERR being set or not on the socket.

Example after an UDP tx flood
# netstat -s
...
IP:
    1487048 outgoing packets dropped
...
Udp:
...
    SndbufErrors: 1487048

send() syscalls, do however still return an OK status, to not
break applications.

Note : send() manual page explicitly says for -ENOBUFS error :

"The output queue for a network interface was full.
This generally indicates that the interface has stopped sending,
but may be caused by transient congestion.
(Normally, this does not occur in Linux. Packets are just silently
dropped when a device queue overflows.) "

This is not true for IP_RECVERR enabled sockets : a send() syscall
that hit a qdisc drop returns an ENOBUFS error.

Eric Dumazet 2b85a34e91 net: No more expensive sock_hold()/sock_put() on each tx
One of the problem with sock memory accounting is it uses
a pair of sock_hold()/sock_put() for each transmitted packet.

This slows down bidirectional flows because the receive path
also needs to take a refcount on socket and might use a different
cpu than transmit path or transmit completion path. So these
two atomic operations also trigger cache line bounces.

We can see this in tx or tx/rx workloads (media gateways for example),
where sock_wfree() can be in top five functions in profiles.

We use this sock_hold()/sock_put() so that sock freeing
is delayed until all tx packets are completed.

As we also update sk_wmem_alloc, we could offset sk_wmem_alloc
by one unit at init time, until sk_free() is called.
Once sk_free() is called, we atomic_dec_and_test(sk_wmem_alloc)
to decrement initial offset and atomicaly check if any packets
are in flight.

skb_set_owner_w() doesnt call sock_hold() anymore

sock_wfree() doesnt call sock_put() anymore, but check if sk_wmem_alloc
reached 0 to perform the final freeing.

Drawback is that a skb->truesize error could lead to unfreeable sockets, or
even worse, prematurely calling __sk_free() on a live socket.

Nice speedups on SMP. tbench for example, going from 2691 MB/s to 2711 MB/s
on my 8 cpu dev machine, even if tbench was not really hitting sk_refcnt
contention point. 5 % speedup on a UDP transmit workload (depends
on number of flows), lowering TX completion cpu usage.

is that the code the emits the packet assumes the IPv6 stack

is emitting the packet is going to pre-fragment the packet.

In the long term we need to fix both sides, e.g., to get the

Eric W. Biederman 426b5303eb [NETNS]: Modify the neighbour table code so it handles multiple network namespaces
I'm actually surprised at how much was involved. At first glance it
appears that the neighbour table data structures are already split by
network device so all that should be needed is to modify the user
interface commands to filter the set of neighbours by the network
namespace of their devices.

However a couple things turned up while I was reading through the
code. The proxy neighbour table allows entries with no network
device, and the neighbour parms are per network device (except for the
defaults) so they now need a per network namespace default.

So I updated the two structures (which surprised me) with their very
own network namespace parameter. Updated the relevant lookup and
destroy routines with a network namespace parameter and modified the
code that interacts with users to filter out neighbour table entries
for devices of other namespaces.

I'm a little concerned that we can modify and display the global table
configuration and from all network namespaces. But this appears good
enough for now.

I keep thinking modifying the neighbour table to have per network
namespace instances of each table type would should be cleaner. The
hash table is already dynamically sized so there are it is not a
limiter. The default parameter would be straight forward to take care
of. However when I look at the how the network table is built and
used I still find some assumptions that there is only a single
neighbour table for each type of table in the kernel. The netlink
operations, neigh_seq_start, the non-core network users that call
neigh_lookup. So while it might be doable it would require more
refactoring than my current approach of just doing a little extra
filtering in the code.

David L Stevens 14878f75ab [IPV6]: Add ICMPMsgStats MIB (RFC 4293) [rev 2]
Background: RFC 4293 deprecates existing individual, named ICMP
type counters to be replaced with the ICMPMsgStatsTable. This table
includes entries for both IPv4 and IPv6, and requires counting of all
ICMP types, whether or not the machine implements the type.

These patches "remove" (but not really) the existing counters, and
replace them with the ICMPMsgStats tables for v4 and v6.
It includes the named counters in the /proc places they were, but gets the
values for them from the new tables. It also counts packets generated
from raw socket output (e.g., OutEchoes, MLD queries, RA's from
radvd, etc).

Changes:
1) create icmpmsg_statistics mib
2) create icmpv6msg_statistics mib
3) modify existing counters to use these
4) modify /proc/net/snmp to add "IcmpMsg" with all ICMP types
listed by number for easy SNMP parsing
5) modify /proc/net/snmp printing for "Icmp" to get the named data
        from new counters.

YOSHIFUJI Hideaki e1f52208bb [IPv6]: Fix NULL pointer dereference in ip6_flush_pending_frames
Some of skbs in sk->write_queue do not have skb->dst because
we do not fill skb->dst when we allocate new skb in append_data().

BTW, I think we may not need to (or we should not) increment some stats
when using corking; if 100 sendmsg() (with MSG_MORE) result in 2 packets,
how many should we increment?

If 100, we should set skb->dst for every queued skbs.

If 1 (or 2 (*)), we increment the stats for the first queued skb and
we should just skip incrementing OutDiscards for the rest of queued skbs,
adn we should also impelement this semantics in other places;
e.g., we should increment other stats just once, not 100 times.

*: depends on the place we are discarding the datagram.

I guess should just increment by 1 (or 2).

Masahide NAKAMURA 59fbb3a61e [IPV6] MIP6: Loadable module support for MIPv6.
This patch makes MIPv6 loadable module named "mip6".

Here is a modprobe.conf(5) example to load it automatically
when user application uses XFRM state for MIPv6:

alias xfrm-type-10-43 mip6
alias xfrm-type-10-60 mip6

Some MIPv6 feature is not included by this modular, however,
it should not be affected to other features like either IPsec
or IPv6 with and without the patch.
We may discuss XFRM, MH (RAW socket) and ancillary data/sockopt
separately for future work.

Loadable features:
* MH receiving check (to send ICMP error back)
* RO header parsing and building (i.e. RH2 and HAO in DSTOPTS)
* XFRM policy/state database handling for RO

These are NOT covered as loadable:
* Home Address flags and its rule on source address selection
* XFRM sub policy (depends on its own kernel option)
* XFRM functions to receive RO as IPv6 extension header
* MH sending/receiving through raw socket if user application
opens it (since raw socket allows to do so)
* RH2 sending as ancillary data
* RH2 operation with setsockopt(2)

Herbert Xu 35fc92a9de [NET]: Allow forwarding of ip_summed except CHECKSUM_COMPLETE
Right now Xen has a horrible hack that lets it forward packets with
partial checksums. One of the reasons that CHECKSUM_PARTIAL and
CHECKSUM_COMPLETE were added is so that we can get rid of this hack
(where it creates two extra bits in the skbuff to essentially mirror
ip_summed without being destroyed by the forwarding code).

I had forgotten that I've already gone through all the deivce drivers
last time around to make sure that they're looking at ip_summed ==
CHECKSUM_PARTIAL rather than ip_summed != 0 on transmit. In any case,
I've now done that again so it should definitely be safe.

Unfortunately nobody has yet added any code to update CHECKSUM_COMPLETE
values on forward so we I'm setting that to CHECKSUM_NONE. This should
be safe to remove for bridging but I'd like to check that code path
first.

So here is the patch that lets us get rid of the hack by preserving
ip_summed (mostly) on forwarded packets.

Neil Horman 95c385b4d5 [IPV6] ADDRCONF: Optimistic Duplicate Address Detection (RFC 4429) Support.
Nominally an autoconfigured IPv6 address is added to an interface in the
Tentative state (as per RFC 2462). Addresses in this state remain in this
state while the Duplicate Address Detection process operates on them to
determine their uniqueness on the network. During this period, these
tentative addresses may not be used for communication, increasing the time
before a node may be able to communicate on a network. Using Optimistic
Duplicate Address Detection, autoconfigured addresses may be used
immediately for communication on the network, as long as certain rules are
followed to avoid conflicts with other nodes during the Duplicate Address
Detection process.

Herbert Xu e9fa4f7bd2 [INET]: Use pskb_trim_unique when trimming paged unique skbs
The IPv4/IPv6 datagram output path was using skb_trim to trim paged
packets because they know that the packet has not been cloned yet
(since the packet hasn't been given to anything else in the system).

This broke because skb_trim no longer allows paged packets to be
trimmed. Paged packets must be given to one of the pskb_trim functions
instead.

This patch adds a new pskb_trim_unique function to cover the IPv4/IPv6
datagram output path scenario and replaces the corresponding skb_trim
calls with it.

When I tested linux kernel 2.6.71.7 about statistics

been generated as a result of fragmentation at
         this output interface."
      ::= { ipv6IfStatsEntry 15 }

I think there are two issues in Linux kernel.
1st:
RFC2465 specifies the counter is "The number of output datagram
fragments...". I think increasing this counter after output a fragment
successfully is better. And it should not be increased even though a
fragment is created but failed to output.

2nd:
If we send a big ICMP/ICMPv6 echo request to a host, and receive
ICMP/ICMPv6 echo reply consisted of some fragments. As we know that in
Linux kernel first fragmentation occurs in ICMP layer(maybe saying
transport layer is better), but this is not the "real"
fragmentation, just do some "pre-fragment" -- allocate space for date,
and form a frag_list, etc. The "real" fragmentation happens in IP layer
-- set offset and MF flag and so on. So I think in "fast path" for
ip_fragment/ip6_fragment, if we send a fragment which "pre-fragment" by
upper layer we should also increase "ipv6IfStatsOutFragCreates".

Herbert Xu 497c615aba [IPV6]: Audit all ip6_dst_lookup/ip6_dst_store calls
The current users of ip6_dst_lookup can be divided into two classes:

1) The caller holds no locks and is in user-context (UDP).
2) The caller does not want to lookup the dst cache at all.

The second class covers everyone except UDP because most people do
the cache lookup directly before calling ip6_dst_lookup. This patch
adds ip6_sk_dst_lookup for the first class.

Similarly ip6_dst_store users can be divded into those that need to
take the socket dst lock and those that don't. This patch adds

need an extra lock.

Herbert Xu f83ef8c0b5 [IPV6]: Added GSO support for TCPv6
This patch adds GSO support for IPv6 and TCPv6. This is based on a patch
by Ananda Raju <Ananda.Raju@neterion.com>. His original description is:

This patch enables TSO over IPv6. Currently Linux network stacks
restricts TSO over IPv6 by clearing of the NETIF_F_TSO bit from
"dev->features". This patch will remove this restriction.

This patch will introduce a new flag NETIF_F_TSO6 which will be used
to check whether device supports TSO over IPv6. If device support TSO
over IPv6 then we don't clear of NETIF_F_TSO and which will make the
TCP layer to create TSO packets. Any device supporting TSO over IPv6
will set NETIF_F_TSO6 flag in "dev->features" along with NETIF_F_TSO.

In case when user disables TSO using ethtool, NETIF_F_TSO will get
cleared from "dev->features". So even if we have NETIF_F_TSO6 we don't
get TSO packets created by TCP layer.

SKB_GSO_TCPV4 renamed to SKB_GSO_TCP to make it generic GSO packet.
SKB_GSO_UDPV4 renamed to SKB_GSO_UDP as UFO is not a IPv4 feature.
UFO is supported over IPv6 also

The following table shows there is significant improvement in
throughput with normal frames and CPU usage for both normal and jumbo.

	--------------------------------------------------
	| | 1500 | 9600 |

Herbert Xu 7967168cef [NET]: Merge TSO/UFO fields in sk_buff
Having separate fields in sk_buff for TSO/UFO (tso_size/ufo_size) is not
going to scale if we add any more segmentation methods (e.g., DCCP). So
let's merge them.

They were used to tell the protocol of a packet. This function has been
subsumed by the new gso_type field. This is essentially a set of netdev
feature bits (shifted by 16 bits) that are required to process a specific
skb. As such it's easy to tell whether a given device can process a GSO
skb: you just have to and the gso_type field and the netdev's features
field.

I've made gso_type a conjunction. The idea is that you have a base type
(e.g., SKB_GSO_TCPV4) that can be modified further to support new features.
For example, if we add a hardware TSO type that supports ECN, they would
declare NETIF_F_TSO | NETIF_F_TSO_ECN. All TSO packets with CWR set would
have a gso_type of SKB_GSO_TCPV4 | SKB_GSO_TCPV4_ECN while all other TSO
packets would be SKB_GSO_TCPV4. This means that only the CWR packets need
to be emulated in software.

Yasuyuki Kozakai 9fb9cbb108 [NETFILTER]: Add nf_conntrack subsystem.
The existing connection tracking subsystem in netfilter can only
handle ipv4. There were basically two choices present to add
connection tracking support for ipv6. We could either duplicate all
of the ipv4 connection tracking code into an ipv6 counterpart, or (the
choice taken by these patches) we could design a generic layer that
could handle both ipv4 and ipv6 and thus requiring only one sub-protocol
(TCP, UDP, etc.) connection tracking helper module to be written.

In fact nf_conntrack is capable of working with any layer 3
protocol.

The existing ipv4 specific conntrack code could also not deal
with the pecularities of doing connection tracking on ipv6,
which is also cured here. For example, these issues include:

1) ICMPv6 handling, which is used for neighbour discovery in
ipv6 thus some messages such as these should not participate
in connection tracking since effectively they are like ARP
   messages

2) fragmentation must be handled differently in ipv6, because
the simplistic "defrag, connection track and NAT, refrag"
(which the existing ipv4 connection tracking does) approach simply
   isn't feasible in ipv6

3) ipv6 extension header parsing must occur at the correct spots
before and after connection tracking decisions, and there were
no provisions for this in the existing connection tracking
   design

4) ipv6 has no need for stateful NAT

The ipv4 specific conntrack layer is kept around, until all of
the ipv4 specific conntrack helpers are ported over to nf_conntrack
and it is feature complete. Once that occurs, the old conntrack
stuff will get placed into the feature-removal-schedule and we will
fully kill it off 6 months later.

Ananda Raju e89e9cf539 [IPv4/IPv6]: UFO Scatter-gather approach
Attached is kernel patch for UDP Fragmentation Offload (UFO) feature.

1. This patch incorporate the review comments by Jeff Garzik.
2. Renamed USO as UFO (UDP Fragmentation Offload)
3. udp sendfile support with UFO

This patches uses scatter-gather feature of skb to generate large UDP
datagram. Below is a "how-to" on changes required in network device
driver to use the UFO interface.

UDP Fragmentation Offload (UFO) Interface:
-------------------------------------------
UFO is a feature wherein the Linux kernel network stack will offload the
IP fragmentation functionality of large UDP datagram to hardware. This
will reduce the overhead of stack in fragmenting the large UDP datagram to
MTU sized packets

1) Drivers indicate their capability of UFO using
dev->features |= NETIF_F_UFO | NETIF_F_HW_CSUM | NETIF_F_SG

NETIF_F_HW_CSUM is required for UFO over ipv6.

2) UFO packet will be submitted for transmission using driver xmit routine.
UFO packet will have a non-zero value for

"skb_shinfo(skb)->ufo_size"

skb_shinfo(skb)->ufo_size will indicate the length of data part in each IP
fragment going out of the adapter after IP fragmentation by hardware.

skb->data will contain MAC/IP/UDP header and skb_shinfo(skb)->frags[]
contains the data payload. The skb->ip_summed will be set to CHECKSUM_HW
indicating that hardware has to do checksum calculation. Hardware should
compute the UDP checksum of complete datagram and also ip header checksum of
each fragmented IP packet.

For IPV6 the UFO provides the fragment identification-id in
skb_shinfo(skb)->ip6_frag_id. The adapter should use this ID for generating
IPv6 fragments.

Harald Welte 6869c4d8e0 [NETFILTER]: reduce netfilter sk_buff enlargement
As discussed at netconf'05, we're trying to save every bit in sk_buff.
The patch below makes sk_buff 8 bytes smaller. I did some basic
testing on my notebook and it seems to work.

The only real in-tree user of nfcache was IPVS, who only needs a
single bit. Unfortunately I couldn't find some other free bit in
sk_buff to stuff that bit into, so I introduced a separate field for
them. Maybe the IPVS guys can resolve that to further save space.

Initially I wanted to shrink pkt_type to three bits (PACKET_HOST and
alike are only 6 values defined), but unfortunately the bluetooth code
overloads pkt_type :(

The conntrack-event-api (out-of-tree) uses nfcache, but Rusty just
came up with a way how to do it without any skb fields, so it's safe
to remove it.

- remove all never-implemented 'nfcache' code
- don't have ipvs code abuse 'nfcache' field. currently get's their own
compile-conditional skb->ipvs_property field. IPVS maintainers can
decide to move this bit elswhere, but nfcache needs to die.
- remove skb->nfcache field to save 4 bytes
- move skb->nfctinfo into three unused bits to save further 4 bytes

Herbert Xu 2fdba6b085 [IPV4/IPV6] Ensure all frag_list members have NULL sk
Having frag_list members which holds wmem of an sk leads to nightmares
with partially cloned frag skb's. The reason is that once you unleash
a skb with a frag_list that has individual sk ownerships into the stack
you can never undo those ownerships safely as they may have been cloned
by things like netfilter. Since we have to undo them in order to make
skb_linearize happy this approach leads to a dead-end.

So let's go the other way and make this an invariant:

For any skb on a frag_list, skb->sk must be NULL.

That is, the socket ownership always belongs to the head skb.
It turns out that the implementation is actually pretty simple.

The above invariant is actually violated in the following patch
for a short duration inside ip_fragment. This is OK because the
offending frag_list member is either destroyed at the end of the
slow path without being sent anywhere, or it is detached from
the frag_list before being sent.

Linus Torvalds 1da177e4c3 Linux-2.6.12-rc2
Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history,
even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git
archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about
3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early
git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good
infrastructure for it.

Let it rip!
